Rob McBobson

"People in the comments field keep insisting that you should be! Don't you read it?"

Andrea Andrew

Because Becky knows you’re not at fault, Dorothy. It was easy to have the playful rivalry when she didn’t know Joyce was queer. Joyce wasn’t hers.

MrShoggoth

Stop making this about you, Dorothy! Your saviour-martyr complex isn’t going to help here and it isn’t going to be appreciated, either.

Kelly (they-them)

Cops look around the room, confused, thinking they hadn't gotten this one yet but seeing clear evidence of previous ransacking

Fart Captor

Because all of her anger is being directed inward right now, Dotty! It's guilt and self-recrimination o'clock! Get with the program!

5099 5618 v2.0

Sure, pull the pin right out of that grenade. Why not?

Logibear

"Do you think I care so little of you that betraying me would make a difference?"

Vivian

She's too busy having self destructive thoughts, Dots; kinda like you, recently, when you've not been off in Joyce-land

Logibear

"Because I know you struggle with anxiety. Because you were Blair Witching a couple of days ago past midnight. Yes, we had our feud but my dad literally kidnapped us and died and I chose to live with YOU after that"

Rob McBobson

Since those books in the back have similar spines I'm guessing they're manga series.

Dan Rabin

In which Dorothy folds a shirt. This tidying activity ties the whole strip together. The boundary between Dorothy's side of the room and Becky's is clearly visible on the floor. Becky quickly traverses TidyTown to get to her familiar mess. This action is available for interpretation as a metaphor.

Harold

Save your punishment kink for your actual girlfriend, Dotty

Astariel

It's a good question. If I were Dorothy, I'd be bracing for the explosion every time I was around Becky and wondering why it wasn't happening.

Shane Wegner

“Because Joyce liking you wasn’t some master plan you did to spite me, she just did?” (Saltier follow-on zinger: “Because the world doesn’t revolve around you nor is it your fault, Madam President.”

Maybeeus

Because Becky's smart enough to know not to blame you and knows what state you were in just a few days ago maybe lol

GundamBradley

Dorothy is really bad at this kind of thing. Not saying that to dump on her, it's just one of her weaknesses, that she has some surprisingly poor abilities at handling this kind of thing.

Lazuli

this feels like the other side of the joe and joyce conversation thatll happen

Rob McBobson

Do you mean "Joyce was queer"?

Lazuli

lets see what happens

Sky Starlight

Optimistic of you to assume that's ever going to happen.

Rob McBobson

@Sky Starlight: Hey, come December it's probably gonna happen.

Railway Series Book Club

i do love how dorothy's instinctive need to blame herself for everything just, totally ignores that becky has object permanence? like, becky bore witness to the extreme 180 her mental health made on Saturday (15-4) where she started the day as an insomniac cryptid at midnight and ended seeming noticably better off! obviously she can put two and two together now that she knows you made out with joyce between those data points, and obviously she'll prefer you kissing joyce over you being potentially suicidal! i love how silly dorpy can be when she's like this, it's so good. very happy this one runs on my birthday bc this is the kinda strip i eat up lol

C.T. Phipps

Becky: Because it's about me not you.

Lazuli

yeah, dorothy "scott summers" keener

Lazuli

sprinkling in a little a optimism as a necessity

Lazuli

Cerulean Exterminator

Gale Tazzin

Dorothy still hasn't learned that a core tenet of evangelicism is that everything is always your fault. God gave you a trial you weren't strong enough to overcome, or you didn't believe hard enough, or anything bad in your life was punishment for your sins, and that mentality always outlasts a belief in God

Empress of Robots

Waiting for a jump scare when a cop falls out of Becky’s pile of lesbos that ate him alive

Tessea

Oof. That made me sad. x.x

Tessea

Talk is good. So rip that Band-Aid right off, Dotty!

Tessea

Two people who can't help but want to take the blame/responsibility for everything. This conversation is gonna need a referee. We need someone who knows them both well enough, is un-biased in this issue, and has the emotional maturity to be fair and balanced. I think the only one I can think of off hand would be Ethan. mayyyybe Sal.

Sajuuk-Khar

Dorothy: “But I’M the guilty one during Guilt O’Clock!”

Logibear

Pretty sure Dorothy had a Catholic upbringing right? If so, it's kinda showing.

William Lewis

Oh, guh, if there's anything harder to get over than the Fundamentalist Mindfuck, it's the Roman Guilt Trip... I saw it with my mother and as a result I like being a nice High Church Anglo-Catholic Episcopalian: all the smells and bells and none of the guilt.

Pangab

Her parents are Universalists

William Lewis

Ah, that's a different ball game. I don't always know these deep details having started reading much more recently. Thank you for the info!

Beck Chonigman

Totally strategic messiness and not severe executive dysfunction. Totally! 👍

thejeff

Are they? I don't remember that. I do remember her saying she had both Catholic and Jewish grandparents.

thejeff

I'm not sure it's a bad opener to getting Becky to talk though

Harold

@Tessea: Jocelyne!

Ilana Feldman

They raised her without pushing any religion, but that doesn't say anything about their mindsets. We've seen them in like 6 comics and one bonus strip, which isn't much data.

Harold

@QueenOfSodor: Happy early birthday!

Tessea

I love Jocelyne and thought about her for this, but I think she's too close to beck to be fully impartial.

Harold

@Tessea: I thought about that (i.e., the fact that she's only really known Dorothy well for five days, as opposed to Becky being an honorary sister all her life), but Jocelyne seems to have bonded quickly with Dorothy *and* was an instant hardcore Theocracy shipper.

Harold

@GundamBradley: Welcome to Dumbing of Age, home to lots of people who are really bad at all kinds of things

Harold

@Dan Rabin: Coming soon: BECKY IN TIDYTOWN, the first Dumbing of Age children's book

VengeanceKnight

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck, this is entirely accurate. You really hit the nail on the head there.

VengeanceKnight

Becky: “Eh, it’s my guilt-o-clock *somewhere!*”

VengeanceKnight

Literally the joke Willis already posted.

Kelly (they-them)

I know. I'm joking with him. Why are you being rude to me?

Tesset

Clearly the only option is the one woman in the cast with conflict resolution experience, a specific desire to mediate and help her friends in this exact way, a relevant knowledge base to draw from in the areas of both jealousy and sublimated sapphic desires, and a detached disinterest in both sides. Bring her in, the alpha bongo herself... JENNIFER!

DramaQueen

Yes, actually it’s good to get that out there after Becky spent the whole semester treating her like dirt. She was walking on eggshells already.

DramaQueen

And not everyone saw that.

Astariel

They did say they were godless to Hank when he was apologizing to them after the kidnapping, so presumably they're athiest or agnostic.

Maude Reads Things

Dorothy was raised mostly areligiously. IIRC Willis has said that Dorothy's parents families are mostly Catholic with the exception of her dad's mom, who was Jewish but (IIRC) converted. Her family celebrates Christian holidays like Christmas secularly. No word on if they've ever done any Jewish ones.

Maude Reads Things

This is an implosion, not an explosion, try to keep up, Dorothy

Tessea

Hell yeah! Head Cheerleader. Problem Solver. Completely free of bias and highly mature about relationships and jealousy!
