Joe's character growth is always appreciated. Hoping whether things work out or not, he'll at least get the conversation he needs.

Simon Magid

I love the way Dan handles Sal. <3

Kelly (they-them)

Now I gotta reread Sal and Danny's slipshine to see if she says she loves him there

Logibear

Potentially Demisexual Joe isn't something I was expecting when I started reading this comic. Super glad that it might be the case though as I had a similar (though much less prolific and creepy) experience to him when figuring it out.

GundamBradley

Panel 2 is a good reminder whose twin Sal is, because that is an extremely Walky sentiment to express.

Harold

"You'll kill me with *love*!" "Ah swear, Ah will straight-up *murder* you." "Murder me with *lov--*" "GODDAMMIT"

Harold

Danhandled: A Dumbing of Age Pornographique

Fart Captor

She hates it so much that she loves him

Astariel

It's nice to see that Joe's character development hasn't been reset by the breakup like a lot of folks were worried about. I wonder if this is the first time he's called Sal by her name rather than "Walky's ridiculously hot twin."

Rubia

Seemingly out of nowhere, a woman with grey skin and short curved horns the color of candy corn appears. She asks if you and your hate partner might be interested in her services as an auspistice. What will you say?

Gale Tazzin

both Walkertons are averse to the L-word, luckily Danny's self-esteem is high enough that he doesn't need to hear it to feel satisfied

Railway Series Book Club

'hurricanic' is a really good adjective, i gotta work that into my vocabulary

Lazuli

joe saying "i dont think....that appeals to me anymore." is making me think of that one character saying "people dont change" and his sentiment flying in the face of that. i cant remember her name.

Lazuli

its d e light ful

Paul McCubbrey

sal's face in the last panel is everything to me

Bad Poetry

And also to me. Almost as great, the murder threat sotto voce.

HenryVolt

No amount of physical intimacy satisfies the need for emotional intimacy. Besides if I were Joe I'd take a hiatus from the dating/one night stand game myself.

Lazuli

curious to see how the lightbulb "huh" moment will play out if joe is indeed demi

Lazuli

thank you

Andrea Andrew

What if Joyce tells Joe Dorothy’s okay with her also dating Joe?

Lazuli

i feel his reaction would still be the same. he's been through kind of a lot, and giving himself personal space would be beneficial.

HenryVolt

Look I get that the polycule route was an option we all suggested at one point and maybe there's a chance of Joe taking her up on it but it's feeling more and more unlikely now a days. Besides after the zero amount of thought and consideration she had for Joe for nearly two whole days I don't think she's capable of properly tending to more than one partners emotional needs at a time.

Tessea

That's even more interesting a scene to me now that I know Joe and Rachel were married in the pre-DoA comics.

Lea

Is...being interested in sex only with people who you love...a thing fairly exclusive to being demi?

Logibear

Its the reason I'm only saying potentially and that it might be the case here. There's a good chance that there might some more nuance.

C.T. Phipps

Sal was unprepared for Joe to have experienced real growth. I imagine a huge chunk of the cast and women thought it was performative. Maybe not to the extent that Rachel did but at least a little.

C.T. Phipps

I mean Dorothy absolutely won't be.

C.T. Phipps

But not Other Rachel who needs her own comics.

Shane Wegner

I think one interesting thing here is how often enough, people don’t like others to change and sometimes actually protest change when they see it. “You’re doing [B] now? But I got used to you doing/being [A] and don’t want to have to update my mental wiki page.” I’ve seen it some IRL, although also sometimes it just “You changed? Cool.” Do people really expect Joe to just keep Indiscriminately Bangin’ into his 90s, since that’s like his schtick to some in universe folks?

NinjaZaku

Danny knows he's gonna get away with saying that, too. Cheeky bastard

Zesstra

If people haven't read Dammit, Malaya on Slipshine, I feel that the final pages of that were really important to Joe's character development in this area and it's unfortunate that a lot of people haven't read that part. Annoyingly I still haven't gotten around to getting back on Slipshine for the Danny×Sal one or Friend of Dorothy, despite having waited years for it.

Empress of Robots

I feel like it's weird that we havent gotten SOME reaction from Danny that his ex-girlfriend basically stole Joe's (now ex)girlfriend. I feel like he should have SOMETHING to say about that...especially when he later finds out that Dorothy KINDA isn't planning on going to Yale because of Joyce and has started referring to her as her future wife. That's gotta be worth at least a 4 on the Kinsey scale....

Empress of Robots

Also, putting the characters' feelings aside, it is VERY FUNNY that Dorothy (the girl that Joe made fun of in high school for being a lesbian) "stole" Joe's girlfriend. Hilarious even!

CoreyWW

Oooooooo you know I hadn’t considered it being like that for Joe now but yeah, I could kinda see that. I’m not sure if that’s the intent but as a demisexual person, I think that’d be cool

CoreyWW

Title of Sal’s Ted talk

tifani

Yeah at this point the lack of ANYONE having a big reaction is honestly pretty unrealistic. These are apparently the most emotionally mature teens on planet earth. Honestly though I think this is just a casualty of the timeline. It makes absolutely no sense that Danny of all people would be so cool about this. And even the one who had the most extreme reaction (Becky) apparently got past it within 24 hours. And Joe has the patience of a goddamn saint. But this storyline having started almost three months ago I think Willis is ready to be over the drama and was never really that interested in dealing with it tbh. That’s why people are so quick to be over it and the boys aren’t going to stay broken hearted for long. Walky is getting back with Amber and Joe’s going to get his poly with Joyce because he has beyond earned it karmically. It’s not super narratively satisfying tbh. But I get not wanting his comic to turn into what the comments did for months.

Harold

For those who have either never read "Goddammit Malaya" or forgotten it, at the end of that Slipshine Joe looks at Malaya after their mid-afternoon quickie... and sees Joyce's face, for a second. A pivotal moment indeed for Young Rosenthal.

Harold

Prediction: If things ever *do* get as far as the polycule conversation, Dorothy will pretend to be OK with the idea, in the interest of making Joyce happy. Then, at the moment of truth, she will run screaming out of the room (if at least partially clothed) or into the half-bath (if not).

Zesstra

Specifically after Malaya asserts that Joe is like her: they're two people getting what they want out of each other, no bullshit, no feelings, no need to lie to themselves that they want something more. Turns out, that's not who Joe is anymore.

Gale Tazzin

danny has had self-esteem since he got that hat

Harold

@Paul McCubbrey and @Tessea: So no one told you life was gonna get this far, Man and wife, in another life Mom and dad to Ultra Car

DannyBoy

I mean Becky only decided she didn't believe in God anymore and maybe-kinda broke up with her girlfriend over it (whom she had been with much longer than either Walky-Dorothy or Joyce-Joe). And it by no means seems to me like she's over it, just maybe taking the first few steps. That seems pretty big to me. I feel like people are expecting characters to visibly express emotion at a level that I just totally don't relate to. When my college relationships ended (even one that lasted the better part of a year) it was challenging but I wasn't expressing the depth of that to most of the people in my life. It also didn't feel like the end of the world either. And friends were supportive but no one made that much of a deal out of it.

Lazuli

and hes only really known sal like..... a month or so at this point?

Harold

@Lazuli: They've been dating since the timeskip (so, about three weeks), but they were friends for a while before that.
