Andrea Andrew

And then Alice showed up next comic…with Billie.

Rob McBobson

Come on, Asma, don't hold back so much, tell us how you REALLY feel

Andrea Andrew

Also, gay moment from Joyce regarding Sal.

Kelly (they-them)

Poor Asma, life has thrown a gutter ball into her plans for love

voyager-ngc5195

Still not the worst reception Sal's ever recieved.

"What have I done?" - The Bridge over the River Kawaii

Rob McBobson

I might be reading too much into things, but Asma's last line, combined with her "can you help me?" from months ago, indicates that she's got some problem, or other situation, we don't know about.

Astariel

It's nice that Sal likes Joyce and Dorothy enough to come bowling with them, even though she used to ride a motorcycle. Feeling a bit bad for Asma here.

Zesstra

Heartbreaking. Sal has completely inadvertently ruined Sapphic Bowling Night.

Railway Series Book Club

seeing Asma get so excited playing her game and then immedietly deflating once the Sitcom Shenanigans occur is heartbreaking. Alice had better show up in the first panel of the next strip so she can be happy again!!!

Harold

@Rob McBobson: I interpreted "Could you help me?" as simply Asma lowkey pining under her breath for Alice, whom she finds attractive. The "mistake" is Joyce and Dorothy having invited Sal to bowling instead of Alice. I don't think it's anything more complicated than that.

Rob McBobson

@Michael: See, I know that, but I mean, apart from that crush. Or there's some detail to the crush on Alice that we don't know about.

Harold

@voyager-ngc5195: True, but "not ending up physically scarred for life and also arrested" is a pretty low bar

Shane Wegner

Maybe she can still, uh, pick up the 7-10 split for the spare somehow.

Rob McBobson

@Harold: Yeah, maybe you're right. It's just the sort of dramatic phrasing that makes me suspect something. Like, instead of "Oops, I think there's been a mistake" or someting, she says "All of this has been a mistake." But again, I could *absolutely* be reading too much into things. I've been wrong before.

C

"...I needed to be clearer...I needed to be way clearer."

Harold

@Andrea Andrew: Joyce has never had a moment regarding Sal that wasn't at least a *little* gay

Ben Wray

That "Booyah" is just delightful. What's funny is that Joyce is actually social-media friends with Alice. If Asma knew her name this meeting could probably be arranged. Because you know Alice would drop everything to come over because this circle is where all the local Hot Goss Drama originates.

Dan Rabin

First topic: Asma bowls a strike! Although her "Booyah" panel has no border and the wonderfully action-lined first panel does, the sound-effect "Strike!" manages to break through the border to tie the panels togethe. Second topic: A long-expected misunderstanding party! Panel 3 has Sal arriving, with Asma in the distance with her right arm still raised from her cheer but her body turned towards the not-the-lady-I-was-expecting. She drops the right arm and raises her left, with a forefinger indicating sal. Three of the last four panels show Asma taking in the misunderstanding, and Sal's dialog confirms my expectation that at least Sal knows Asma. This is certainly a disappointment for Asma, but we may recall that Alice has established that she's now targeting Billie, so it's like that Asma would be disappointed eventually if she's fixated on Alice.

Tessea

Maybe she's just extremely lonely. While it could just be Asma's personality clashing with D & J's, but she doesn't seem to be very patient with people.

Zesstra

ASMA STATS Asma has now appeared more times (21) from 15:4 onwards as in all the time before that storyline began (20), not counting bonus strips etc. She's now spoken in 60.98% of such appearances which is the most since Trufan in 3:4 where she was at 66.67% (literally 2 out of her 3 appearances at that point). This is the first time outside of a bonus strip that Asma has used an exclamation mark. The only other times I can see that she's used one are the bonus strip from March 2018 where Walky tries to get his mail from her while she's eating in which she uses four (and I always forget that it's a bonus strip) and the one at the protest where she tells Amazi-Girl not to dropkick knee anyone in the face, and that one is accompanied by a question mark.

GundamBradley

Poor Asma. Not only is Sal not Alice, she's also one of like 3 relevant straight people in the cast. It's good that she's killing it at bowling, because her luck is otherwise not panning out.

5099 5618 v2.0

Depicted: the result of several Natural 1s.

Ben Wray

Also, gonna be highly amusing when/if Asma tried to clarify like "No, your other friend with jacket and boots. She doesn't live in our hall. She was... gossiping with Raidah and me about your various relationship betrayals?"

Tessea

Nice to see Asma excited! .... At least for a moment. I didn't think she was going to take it quite this badly. I'm starting to think maybe Asma's just lonely, and that can trigger depression too.

Tessea

She'd get to be the _cause_ of the drama if she showed up with Jennifer!

Dmitri0240

I'm almost curious to see how the main site will spin Joyce and Dorothy making the only reasonable inference from Asma's description as further evidence of their descent into irredeemable monsters. (Emphasis on "almost")

Plot twist: Asma slowly starts to like Sal

Lars Hoffmann

I count 5 straight main cast people. Sal, Sarah, Joe, Walky, Amber. Secondary I'd add Lucy, Jacob, Jason, Robin and Tony. Asma doesn't seem the type to pursuit luck. Downplaying a lot of things that makes her happy. I really hope this event turns from "mistake", to "yeah, it was kind of fun".

5099 5618 v2.0

@Zeestra Yes, but what is her Stand?

Harold

Yes, the mention of Robin certainly raises eyebrows. Let's also not forget that Walky is perfectly willing to be GFP (Gay For Pizza).

Harold

@Tessea: "But, doctor - I *am* SodaSip-iacci!"

CoreyWW

Joyce: “Look Asma, I’m sorry, we just happen to know multiple people who look totally rad”

Crunchos cereal

Though Sal seems to be a) straight b) in a (at least this far) mono relationship.

GundamBradley

Yeah, I wasn't counting Walky, either, myself due to this. Sal at least has on-screen refused the advances of women at least twice, so it's possible she'll be bi later or something, but it is more assured she is straight than cast members where it hasn't been specifically shown.

Maude Reads Things

They really did mean well, here, Asma. XD And Sal, shush, you were a motorcycle riding badass who also loved games like Apples to Apples. Bowling was a possibility for your wheelhouse

I Know Why the Mowed Lawn Screams

been feeling really insane about this strip in particular in a deeply emotional way. and I think tomorrow's strip is gonna make or break my wider feelings on like. the inchoate feelings I have on the direct post-protest stuff.

Peach Reaver

WORD OF GOD! ROBIN IS DISASTERSEXUAL!

I Know Why the Mowed Lawn Screams

been feeling really insane in general due to the whole "living in minnesota" thing but asma in the last panel is reflecting the shit I've been feeling in my own life so 1:1 right now, like in a raw embarrassing naked way thats so striking. wishing you were fine but you're not fine and feeling dumb for even wanting to go bowling with your crush cause you coulda been using your time in more useful ways, because having fun after a police raid, after your school is assaulted by police, after people who look and dress and talk like you are being killed overseas for no go reason is making you feel deeply stupid. you are out here in a bowling alley with two well meaning girls who will never have to grapple with the weight of knowing that all of this chaos is because your government wants you and all of your loved ones beaten and broken and dead right now and everyone is ok with that and its fucking you up but all you can do is just keep going. god.

Girlycore

That's fine, Asma's allowed to like her anyway.

George Simpson

Sure, sure, but it can get a little taxing when you *really* like somebody who doesn't like you back like that. Asma's had a hard enough time lately, I think.

DramaQueen

Looking back on this, Asma is so happy! For just a few breaths she lived in the moment without ironic detachment or scorn or self-recriminations. For several minutes before that she actually socialized, voluntarily talking to someone who sought out her company outside of work. Perhaps Asma will allow herself to go bowling again.
