Oh, shit! Joyce actually noticed Dorothy in the sixth strip! I just love these two being cute and couple-y. It is balm to my soul.

C

I really do love this strip. It's quite cute.

Logibear

I wonder when the Chapter Title shoe is going to drop? (Unless I wasn't paying attention when it happened)

Logibear

Mainly asking because this strip is so very sweet and I can't possibly imagine something coming in to ruin it

Coincidentally, today is Friday the 13th of February. It's the 39th anniversary of my first date with my wife, which was also Friday the 13th of February. We met the previous Saturday at the Rocky Horror Picture Show, which she was attending because her newly-ex boyfriend had forbidden her from going, and I was there because I was part of the shadow cast playing Riff-Raff. She says as soon as she saw me, she knew I was the person she was going to marry. I didn't actually meet her until the after-party at Denny's the cast always went to, and she followed along. We met in the lobby waiting for others to get there. We ended up getting a private booth rather than the collection of tables the cast usually did, talked until the restaurant closed, and spoke on the phone every night after until our first date. This July will be our 36th Wedding anniversary.

Kazo

Well to be fair that Is the first time they were tagged in the same strip.

Dan Rabin

Callback in last panel is to https://www.dumbingofage.com/comic/forget/, which shows Danny and Dorothy approaching on Joyce's right, with Dorothy looking in the direction of Becky. A couple of steps later, Joyce could have eyed Dorothy as shown today. Callback in panel 4 is to https://www.dumbingofage.com/comic/dexter/, in which Joyce did *not* evince flirtatious body-language. Panel 2 might be an unreliable version of the first strip ever. This might be Joyce's romanticism wanting her to believe that they were always fated to be together. Dorothy doesn't need it to have been this way.

Astariel

Pretty sure the chapter title refers to Becky. She said something very similar about herself to Dina, I think.

Maude Reads Things

IIRC Willis said he decided for sure before the time skip - it was why they were next to each other in the big group shot, front and centre.

Tessea

Awwwwwww!!!!! That is sweet. This is just the best kind of flashback

Lazuli

well then

Beck Chonigman

Goddamn that last panel is fucking poinient.

Diane

@Astariel Curse my web browser for not showing me this sooner.

Astariel

@Diane - No worries! Great minds think alike.

AND SPEAKING OF BECKY…

5099 5618 v2.0

(/Dorothy as the current visage of the Bajoran Prophets): "First? Later?" (/Sal, also currently a visage of the Bajoran Prophets): "They are linear. It limits them."

Zesstra

I called back in September that Joyce probably talked to Bryan about her crush on Dorothy back during the meetup for questioning individuals in book 5, and I stand by this called shot.

5099 5618 v2.0

Elsewhere: (/Joe, unblinking, staring at the ceiling): "All of this has happened before, and it will all happen again... Again... Again... Again... Again... again...."

5099 5618 v2.0

Next: Dorothy figures out how to make Joyce blush at will, powers up, becomes a cosmic-scale threat.

AE Gonzalez

These all seem to be memories from Dorothy’s point of view.

Sajuuk-Khar

Objection: Dorothy is incapable of using such knowledge for even a playful advantage without physically collapsing from guilt

Andrea Andrew

Happy Valentine’s Day to these two. It’s really trippy that Joyce was actually drawn to Dorothy the moment she walked in the room. And Dorothy actually subconsciously thought Joyce was cute the moment she first talked to her. So sapphic. No wonder Joyce rejected Becky. She was already in love.

DramaQueen

She might be able to use it against people like Radha, while explaining the whole time what she’s doing. To help someone else of course.

DramaQueen

I think those looks they are giving each other in class are Quite Friendly. If Walky hadn’t butted in Joyce might have latched right onto Dorothy there just like Becky latched onto her. You can see in that first strip where Becky hugs Joyce goodbye, she already looks guilty and baffled that Becky is so heart-broken when she’s eager to move on.

Yue Ryong

I'm struck in a number of ways by how much this reminds me of https://www.shortpacked.com/comic/amber - how much the characters tell themselves things that align with what they say they want rather than acknowledging the way their desires have overtaken their self-image.

thejeff

Retroactively sure. There was no indication of it at the time.

Sumit

Awww what a lovely story! Happy anniversary to you both!

Andrea Andrew

So Dorothy seems to be slowly getting used to being bisexual and while she loves Joyce, she seems like she’s in denial about how long she’s loved Joyce.

thejeff

That assumes the intent here is that it really was love at first sight rather than Joyce recalibrating her memories to better fit her rom-com expectations.

Astariel

I'm not saying she fell in love immediately or anything, but if she hadn't noticed her then, she couldn't flash back to it now.

Tessea

Human Nature....

Maybeeus

I love this strip a lottttttt one of the things i was desperately hoping for was a flashback exactly like this. It's such a little tiny piece of information that feels like it changes so much.

William Lewis

I really love this strip too. It took me forever to understand that I was Bi - goddamn, why do I think Han Solo is hot? As a boy in 1977 you didn't ask why you were jealous of the Princess!
