Andrea Andrew

I’m sure her roommate will understand.

C

Good to see more from Asma's end.

Lazuli

is angie new? or am i just out of touch?

Emily Lamont

I hope this is from a place of caring and not judgment, interested to see it play out.

Logibear

"I stared into the void, and it stared back at me and asked me if it was okay to tell me my hair was pretty"

Ragtime

relatively new, Angie appeared a bit ago when we saw Asma the day after the protest. Angie appeared again to warn Asma of the cops vandalizing things iirc.

Harold

@Lazuli: We've seen the roommates together a couple of times before.

Fart Captor

She's only shown up once or twice so far

Samel da Camel

Does that mean "up came something", "up something came", "came something up", "came up something", and "something up came" are more likely for Asma to say, along with every other set of 3 words (and then to six)?

Jamie (QueenofSodor)

shame that dorothy's too dorpy for asma to want to be with her, those two would make some *killer* event calendars and spreadsheets together

GundamBradley

If Angie is coming from a place of support/concern, super, I get that some relationships are like that. Otherwise, mind your beeswax, parole officer.

Kazo

New to dumbing. She's been in shortpacked before I think

5099 5618 v2.0

@Lazuli Her deal is as-of-yet unknown, beyond that she and Asma are very comfortable around each other. She seems nice, tho.

Tessea

Poor Asma. She's as dorky as the rest of them.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Jamie Nah, it'd short the circuit. Folk like that need people that balance us out. I mean them out.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Lazuli For instance, we don't know if she's of the Ummah, or not. She's at least conscientious and curious enough to stay on Asma's good side, so far, tho.

Sajuuk-Khar

Oh hey, is Angie also Muslim? That’s cool!

Dan Rabin

OK if she is, but she could also have picked up some of the terminology from rooming with Asma for a semester-plus.

It's fairly rude to just accuse someone of missing Isha prayer. Knowing someone's routine is one thing, policing their faith is another.

Tessea

I wouldn't judge until we learn more about their arrangement. Angie may be Muslim as well for all we know.

Harold

The cast: "One of us! One of us! We accept you!"

Shane Wegner

Lot of crab-potting tendencies in Dumbiverse. “You behaved other than the mental model I have for you. FRICTION!”

Riley

also some people just have the type of relationship where they feel comfortable holding each other accountable for routines they know they find important.

I've been trying to think of a Christian-equivalent 'faux-pas', and to me this would be a similar level of rudeness as someone accusing you of not tithing the correct amount at church; it's not really a matter of whether the person making the accusation is a Christian or not, it's still rude behavior either way (and really, it's still none of their business.)

Star Ringer

Karaokeing, something was up. I came!

Beck Chonigman

Or each would be so stuck on certain aspects of how they organize/prioritize things that they would absolutely end up hating each other's guts. Which would be good news for Dorothy bc it would mean Asma would no longer mainly dislike her for her cop energy and good news for Asma bc Dorothy would no longer be trying to annoyingly impress her.

Tessea

What if Asma _asked_ her to hold her accountable if she skipped/missed something? They may have known each other since childhood. Or maybe Angie is just a colossal jerk. My point is that we just don't know yet. So assuming the worst and jumping directly to judging characters and or writing doesn't help anything.

voyager-ngc5195

I'm not necessarily saying Angie's meant to be rude, here. I'm saying that from a cultural perspective, she's being rude. To be honest, I'm not even certain she's intended to be rude, because from a Christian perspective this might sound like she's just saying that Asma missed her bedtime prayers. While functionally it's similar, structurally there can be a lot of difference between questioning if someone's performed their Christian prayers than if someone's performed their daily Salah.

C Bonesmith

I might be reading too much into it, but I read this as Angie being genuinely worried about where Asma was. Consider the atmosphere on campus right now, and consider how important the prayers are to Asma. If I had a roommate who was a member of an at-risk group (tensions are high and Indiana's state government is *extremely* islamophobic- like, I know the strips are written in advance so this was probably in the buffer before the Indiana lt. governor publicly said all muslims should convert to christianity, I know this isn't the real world, but it's impossible to divorce this strip from its midwest context), and she disappeared overnight, I'd be really worried and ask where she'd been. I probably wouldn't do it this way but I want to believe that Angie's coming from a place of concern.

Maude Reads Things

Tone might also make a difference here too - hopefully it's less of an accusation and more of a 'Hey, you weren't here for last night's prayers like you usually are, was everything okay?' and just not worded great. Unless I'm also missing some cultural notes here which is entirely possible.
