I don't even remember drawing this one!  I was just idly wondering if there were any unused strips from the past month or so and this thing was sitting there.

Remember when Sarah shoved Joe out into the hallway and slammed the door on him while he and Joyce were sorting through Joyce's bins?  Well, this is Joe talking to Rachel while he's out there waiting.  I guess I thought this interrupted the flow of the story?  I dunno.  Again, I don't remember it.

And you end it just before the punchline... Agh!

I like that last line by Joe a lot. It's a shame this is unused. I hope that line at least gets used sometime in the future.

I think people today sometime find being cynical lets them off the hook. If everyone and everything is false, why bother about anything. If there's no right, by definition you can't fix what's wrong.

the next panel is definitely rachel saying "she thought the universe was 6000 years old"

I get why people are skeptical of Joe’s intentions but I think he’s more honoring her agency than any of them by respecting the fact that she’s a full person who’s allowed to want things and act on those wants. Everybody is like “oh she’s a precious little baby naïf who needs to be handled with kid gloves” and as much as she is naive and immature in several ways, she’s still a person and that impulse to infantalize her is arguably damaging and objectifying in its own right.

It's the new "Dina is just a child"

I like Rachel, she obviously has some regret weighing on her. I'm torn between wanting to know more and appreciating that it's not just the main cast going through things. The unknown issues of other people that are no less complicated.
