I remember they added narration to episodes back in the day...I think I watched the show on IMDb and there was an opening narration, though it was done by Mal, not Sheperd Book. Though maybe that one will show up in later episodes...

This episode is such an interesting one...since Fox didn't like the pilot (which is ridiculous because it's perfect), they had to write a new episode one in like a weekend. And so this was the first episode aired on TV. And I'm sure writing it was challenging, because they had to introduce the characters in a way that made sense for both a first and second episode, without re-using anything from Serenity, and I think they did a great job. But that is why the beginning can feel a bit exposition heavy, especially if you just watched the first episode. So glad you're watching this show and that you're enjoying it so much!!!

Yeah, doing a bit of research, the recap narration wasn’t part of the original broadcast or original DVD or Blu-ray releases. Which explains why this was my first time hearing it. I’ve only ever watched my physical copies.

I love that scene. “When he learns all the details of a situation like ours, a man has a choice.” “No, I don’t reckon he does.” Tells us so much about Mal. Plus we get to see about how Inara’s position is respected out in the world. Great reaction!
