Who Are These People

Kat, you should stop skipping the intro. Some special episodes will have a different intro.

Jessie Caldwell

I think the sheriff's obsession and hatred that motivated him to have the boy beaten to death came from his grief over his wife's condition. Seeing his wife suffer and thinking that the ministry was taking advantage of that kind of pain pushed him over the limit. And, there was also a bit of mob mentality involved as well. Just my rational...

Who Are These People

The sheriff partially parallels the Pharisees in the Bible. Whey they learned of Jesus' healing miracles they concluded that everyone would go follow Jesus and they decided the only thing to do was kill Jesus. Conversion and the futility of killing a prophet of God never occurred to them. In this episode the comparison is muddled by the appearance of Samuel causing the deaths himself so that even Samuel was confused, but it all points to a central tenet of human behavior; 'When your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail'. People approach everything from a single point of view because that's all any one person can handle. So Scully is always ruling things out that aren't 'scientific' and is skeptical about aliens but receptive to religion, Mulder is always looking for the sci-fi mystery but is skeptical of religion and the Sheriff, being police, thinks the only resolution to 'problems' is violence.

What's awesome (for me) is that you haven't even reached the good episodes yet.

It is so much fun to be here years later looking forward to a fresh episode of the X-Files on Sundays again.

Josh Link

Miracle Man is also one of my favorite comics.

James Cole

It is sad I have to pause you so I can revel in the intros by myself.

James Cole

He started eating seeds in the first episode you skipped the intro!

RJ Inkglider

I feel like we're in end times today. As fraught as times were in the 90s, they don't even compare to the depravity we see today.
