Raaz

Lets go! Easily one of my favourite movies, love the score in this.

Taco Wolf

Hopefully this isn't The Last samurai movie that you watch :D Harakiri (1962), Seven Samurai (1954), Throne of Blood (1957) and Goyokin (1969) are all excellent samurai films that are worth checking out.

The Great Lopan

Love your reaction to this. Such a beautiful movie.

CLFuqua87

Kat with the angry tissue pull.

Mo

Such an underrated late classic. Incredible score and performances.

Stephen Matthews

the soundtrack was beyond brilliance. the track that plays at the end gets me everytime. Oh and i also recommend 47 Ronin.

Mo

Kat!! Blood Diamond if you haven’t seen it—same director, incredible performances.

RJ Inkglider

That was the movie that changed my opinion on DiCaprio. Up until that point I didn't like him very much.

RJ Inkglider

After he was captured he was so sick because he was experiencing DTs (delirium tremens) from alcohol withdrawal.

Cheyenne Clayter

This is one of my all time favorite movies. Moves me to this day. Another great piece is Memoirs of a Geisha that I think you would love.

RJ Inkglider

They really don't make movies like this anymore.

RJ Inkglider

It makes me upset that Nolan's Odyssey was utterly glazed in the media and it will sweep the Oscars when this movie is better in every way.

Mo

Yes agree, he seemed to very intentionally pivoted from boy heartthrob to character actor collaborating with great filmmakers around that time. If you were a young boy in the 90s we were all mad jealous of the attention he got from Titanic lol. Love Leo.

RJ Inkglider

Btw, that was a ninja attack at night. I don't know if that was an anachronism but it sure looked cool. Ninja warriors were like the special forces assassins of Japan in pre-modern warfare.

EmilyKT

Totally agree! Especially Throne of Blood...and I think there's enough of a supernatural element that I'd call it horror adjacent. :)

RJ Inkglider

The Academy never really liked Tom Cruise. They were forced to give him a lifetime Oscar.

RJ Inkglider

He's had a charmed life, that's for sure.

RJ Inkglider

If you have a growing fondness for Tom Cruise, you definitely need to check out Risky Business, his first big break movie. Not only is it a blast of nostalgia from the 80s, it also has two great performances from Joe Pantoliano (Cypher from the Matrix), and Rebecca De Mornay. It's immediately apparent that Tom had star power and I think he was only 19. I'm with you in that I didn't know his movies besides the fantastic Mission Impossible series, and he has much more range than action heroes. This movie might be his best work (he also had a small cameo in Magnolia by Paul Thomas Anderson which was truly incredible, as well as his famous Tropic Thunder cameo).

RJ Inkglider

It just occurred to me that Kubrick directed Tom Cruise in Eyes Wide Shut. That's a magnificent performance also, but Nicole Kidman really stole the show in that movie.

Sven Lekberg

Yes, I surely did! This was amazing. They were amazing (for the twentieth or what not time, no less), and as per usual, you were amazing!! If you ever find yourself in need of topping this experience in the future, just know that in 2024 a little wonder of story telling, acting, and film art swooshed by the TVs, smashed all them Emmies, and left an indelible scar in the hearts of all who'd seen this miracle of a show called Shogun, in what is arguably Hiroyuki Sanada's best role (you know, the grumpiest and the baddest of the Samurai ;))) ever. Shogun only has 10 episodes (series 2 coming...hopefully soon), each and all approaching perfection as much as I've ever seen. Don't forget the tissue paper armor. This be a gut-wrenching yarn that must be seen to be believed. Soredewa mata aimashō!

Raider Ron

No I'm not crying. Kat you should see Tom in one of his early movies called Taps.

Robert Raszkowski

KAT - You don't know Ninja?? o-0 Ninjas were often assassins and also "samurai" for hire. You need to watch some of the best samurai and ninja movies. Like Akira Kurosawa - "Seven Samurai" from 1954. Based on this movie Hollywood created one of the most famous western movies "The Magnificent Seven" from 1960. Also some fun shlock movies like "American Ninja" from 1985. Also You should watch Zack Snyders "300". It is a bad movie, but so much fun. Tom Cruise is not the best actor. He is good in certain roles - yes. But the japanise cast was far better here - in my opinion. Objectively - yes it is a good movie. But there are soo much better films out there. Some You will never watch because they are not made by Hollywood, Because there are in a different languange and so on. I know You are trying to watch the "popular" picks from our suggestions, but sometimes You should (even for Yourself - not for channel) watch something less popular. And don't get me started on some "oscar" movies of late. Those more ofthen than not are not The Best movies. Regards. :)
