You can visit a reproduction of the original set (built using the original set plans) in Ticonderoga, NY. They often have special events including appearances by Star Trek cast members. https://startrektour.com

A great reaction to another classic iconic episode. Thanks for doing these! This and the X-Files reactions are great entertainment! I still very strongly suggest the episodes of Wolf in the Fold and Specter of the Gun. Wolf in the Fold os a horror episode and Specter of the Gyn is the same concept as the X-Files episode with the Preacher character and dreams becoming real.

Kat we are so glad to see you again!! See you at 1? Maybe the Cubs play at 1:20

29:35 "Scotty, I've got a girlfriend!" Literally laughed out loud. Another great reaction. If your trek continues beyond TNG, perhaps you'll encounter the mirror universe again. 🤫

I love the mirror universe episodes. I believe every star trek series has at least one episode with the mirror universe. This episode started a trend in star trek!

Oh, the Mirror Universe, you lovable scamps!  This was probably one of the first examples of the "evil parallel universe" to crop up in pop culture TV (outside of anthology shows like "The Twilight Zone"). I think this episode specifically is where the trope of "evil mirror version of you has a beard/goatee as a visual cue of their evilness" began, too.  This series is ground zero for a lot of what followed in sci-fi; yeah, Star Trek is a little campy around the edges, especially looking back at it from 60 years down the line, but it was really one of the first successful attempts in TV at serious or "hard" sci-fi where it actually all works AND managed to stick around in pop culture.  It's really amazing to watch someone go back and enjoy discovering all the groundbreaking things we take for granted in today's media. I love how much Uhura gets to shine in this episode.  Kirk, Spock, and McCoy are the Big Three on the series, and so much tends to focus around them that it's always great when the other four main crewmembers (Sulu, Scotty, Uhura, and Chekov) get in their good moments around the edges, particularly Uhura.  Hers was arguably the most boring role in the series, either having to constantly say "hailing frequencies open" or react in horror to something happening on the viewscreen so that the menfolk could all look more heroic.  Anytime Uhura gets the chance to do something cool, Nichelle Nichols takes that opportunity and nails it.  Kat, when you're much later in your Star Trek journey, there's a great documentary about the life of Nichelle Nichols called "Woman in Motion" that I cannot recommend enough.

First, loved the trivia quiz! Second, the head alien in this one was played by Vic Perrin who did many voice-overs for this series (and others). Third, OK, I'm going to say it, I never realized, but Uhura was stacked! But on a more cerebral tack, I find it interesting that there were several female navels in evidence here (and in other episodes), and in fact costume designer Bill Theiss said that his philosophy was that on Star Trek the womens' costumes should look like they are about to fall off, but on "I Dream of Jeannie," which ran from 1965-1970, Barbara Eden was forbidden to expose her navel. Star Trek existed within that period, and both were aired on NBC, so I wonder what the deal was? And Star Trek also counted the first inter-racial TV kiss, and the word "Hell," being spoken. Perhaps it was considered a more adult program?

Who Are These People

Great work on that Trivia tournament, Kat. I know from my experiences of conducting training sessions at work that handling a live class requires so much mental energy. I would've been exhausted after that.

So I synced this reaction to my physical copy and I notices after every commercial break My copy kept falling out of sync. it looks like Paramount Plus trimmed a few seconds off each time the show resumes after the commercial break mark, probably to make the episodes shorter so they can ad more ads. its a shame if I am a paid member to Paramount I would want unedited content. That's why I kept my physical collection.

Now - a bit of a spoiler... a bit. Honestly - Mirror, Mirror episodes are awesome. But The Best are from Scott Bakula "Enterprise". I sincerely hope You will continue watching Star Trek shows. TNG, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise. Even for Your own pleasure. Onto the next episode... KAT-ship flies by. :)

BrakYeller

Are you watching the same remastered versions as Kat, or the original DVD-era versions? I know for certain that the remasters do make some slight cuts going to and coming back from commercial breaks (the fades in and out are just slightly faster), but it shouldn't be more than literally a second or two of difference. I also wouldn't put it past Paramount Plus to be juicing the run-times in favor of ads, so you may be right.

Walter Crockett

Yes I was watching the remastered version of the episode.
