Movie Run Time: 1:53:48

You will need your own copy of the movie to watch along! 😁

I don't say this often but this is one I am pretty happy about not seeing earlier. My poor heart can't handle the Jodie Foster scenes 😭

The long pinkie finger nail was for snorting coke. It was the 70's. Wild times.

You asked a lot of questions during this reaction, I was going to answer some of them, but I forgot them by the end. Oh well. One thing I remember was you asked about Cybill Shepherd. She was in The Last Picture Show (1971), The Heartbreak Kid (1972), Daisy Miller (1974) and At Long Last Love (1975). Those are worth watching, especially the first one. She was also in the popular 80s TV show Moonlighting.

What's wrong with Travis?? My guess..PTSD from Vietnam, amongst other things. The whole film has an underlying theme of the consequences of the Vietnam war and Travis' internal struggles are the personification of that. He's a lost soul, unable to return to normal society. He's isolated, desperate and lonely whether it be from traumatic experiences, sheltered lifestyles or just strange quirks in his personality. I've seen many who watch the film seem turned off or even disgusted by Travis, but I think while he goes about things the wrong way Deep down he is a very sad and troubled man who wants to fit in no matter how bad he fails at it. He's just unable to connect with others.

Actress Jodie Foster was herself 12 years old as was the character she portrayed. And director Martin Scorsese himself played the man who wanted to kill his cheating wife. Thank you, Dawn, for comments and your honest assessment of this film.

It was pretty amazing how much you said you wanted was actually in the last shootout. I remember thinking when you said it, that you were not going to like when those things came to fruition.

Peter Boyle was indeed in Everybody Loves Raymond, and was the creature in Young Frankenstein. Harvey Keitel (the pimp) was Mr White in Reservoir Dogs, and Mr Wolf in Pulp Fiction.

Jay Perry

The extra long fingernail means that the pimp Sport snorts cocaine.

Bill W

Almost like his Deerhunter character was a prequel to Travis.

This is the first time I have seen this movie, too. I am with you. I don't like all the loose ends. I don't see the overall good of it. Someone should have saved DeNiro from this movie.

The fizzy drink was alka seltzer. He had a rumbly tumbly from stress. Yes Travis was a mess mentally. This movie was not for everyone. But was a masterpiece of an antihero attacking the dark underbelly of the modern world.

Bartleby

Harvey Keitel was also in The Grand Budapest Hotel. As the leader of the prison gang who decides to take Ralph Fiennes along with them when they bust out. That was the first thing Dawn saw Harvey Keitel in on the channel.

Bartleby

Don’t be silly. This is one of the greatest films and one of the most iconic performances of all time.

Bartleby

Taxi Driver was the primary film that inspired the screenwriter of Unforgiven. The approach to and statement it was making about violence was something totally unique. When you hear about some random episode of violence or some bizarre massacre, this film illustrates how a man arrives at that point. Most men can identify with and and relate to at least some aspects of Deniro’s character and struggle in this film.
