Mike Conlin

I would've loved to have been around when this first hit theaters. Hitchcock basically invented "spoiler warning" culture with how he marketed the film. The first moviegoers genuinely thought we'd spend the whole movie following Marion on the run, only to have the world flipped upside down on them halfway through.

Louis Marzullo

One of my favorite scenes from "Happy Days" is Ralph Malph spoiling Psycho for the Cunningham family: "Tony Perkins is his own mother!!" 😂

Chicago Artist Jon

Now you just need The Birds and you have enough Hitchcock to watch Mel Brooks High Anxiety.

Jinyatta

Detective Dawn is my favorite crimefighter!

JL Green

Yippee! DM, Detective Extraordinaire! Man, you're good, really really good!👍🏾👏🏾

Bartleby

Good job Detective Dawn! 👍 Though the fact that it was in the plot twist poll deducts points from your victory. Because if you go into a movie knowing there’s a major plot twist, the plot twist has essentially been spoiled for you. And you are actively looking for it as you explicitly stated you would. So your victory here is tarnished and not exactly pure.

Bartleby

Did you ever see the movie “Hitchcock” starring Anthony Hopkins as Hitch. It’s about the making of Psycho. Helen Mirren plays his wife

John Walters

Alfred Hitchcock's directing career lasted a long time. He started directing movies back in the 1920's, believe it or not, during the silent film era. At least one of the silent films was a comedy.

Bartleby

And Dawn, if you want to see more with the actor who played Norman Bates, Anthony Perkins. Check out the black and white movie “The Trial” (1962) Perkins is exceptional!

Toc

You guessed it immediately! Brilliant!

Joe Lazarus

I would also add Psycho 2 (1983) Some major assets in the original was its psychological layers, its atmosphere, and the major performance by Anthony Perkins, and impressively, Psycho 2 contains all of this

Robert Nelson

Janet LEIGH (Jamie LEIGH Curtis' mother) dying in the beginning of the movie is like Batman dying in the beginning of the movie. No one expected it.

Bartleby

Honestly I don’t think I’ve seen any of the Psycho sequels since I was a kid. I need to revisit them myself.

Robert Inman

Dawn, $40,000 in 1960 translates to $415,000 today ( depending on which inflation #s you use). More than sufficient incentive to hire a detective. It's great seeing you enjoy a film, and you could do worse than "The Birds" for your next Hitchcock.

Bartleby

Dawn, I hope you consider doing a YouTube edit for Escape From the Planet of the Apes. Many of the YouTube subscribers have asked for it. And then you can proceed the series with Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. And I think people would want to see a YouTube edit for Conquest Dawn. It’s a favorite of the sequels.

MrDannySteele

For a Hitchcock movie that is a bit on the “lighter” side, “The Trouble with Harry” (1955), it is a black comedy. I will tell you that the trouble with Harry is that Harry is dead. It is the debut film of Shirley MacLaine. This movie made a generation scared to take a shower. This is extremely loosely based on real life murder Ed Gein. Janet Leigh actually refused to take showers after this movie, it made her realize how vulnerable you are in the shower, she took only baths

Louis Marzullo

Dawn, when Marion's boss crossed in front of her car & recognized her, did it remind you of a scene from another movie you saw not too long ago?... Loved your excitement at cracking the case. Det. Dawn was indeed in top form for this one! 🕵🏼‍♀️... "A boy's best friend is his mother"- 99% of women: "Eww, get therapy you creep!" Dawn: "So cute!"🥰 (subsequent events & revelations notwithstanding! 😁)... Glad you appreciated Anthony Perkins' acting... Lastly, this was the best experience yet of feeling the chills, suspense & jump scares through your reaction like it was my first time watching it. That was magical! 🪄

Mark Crawford

Loved it - another great reaction. Btw, my favourite Anthony Perkins performance is in Ken Russell's Crimes of Passion - you must do that one sometime!

Louis Marzullo

Ed Gein was also the inspiration for Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs & Leatherface in Texas Chainsaw Massacre... Is he the single most influential figure in the history of horror films? (there is also that dude who liked to impale people) 🤔

Louis Marzullo

Second viewing: Your reaction when Arbogast (the private investigator- also the jury foreman in 12 Angry Men. Martin Balsam is actor's name) is murdered was... BEST. THING. EVER!!! Since you're going to immediately re-watch it, I wouldn't mind a second reaction video! Set a precedent, Detective Dawn! 😄

Louis Marzullo

Dawn, please go to Discord "Cinema Chat" & watch the Psycho trailer posted by patron Duke P... Amazing!

Bartleby

Loui? Are you trying to make me want to smack you? Yes and I would describe the movie Blue Velvet as “Lynchian” 🙄

Bartleby

I was pronouncing it in a fancy French way in my head and spelled phonetically from there. 😂

Louis Marzullo

French is ok. I can pretend I'm a certain very cool Brad Pitt character. Just not "Lewis". That's a surname.

Bartleby

He starred in quite a few classic episodes of The Twilight Zone as well!

Louis Marzullo

Also, whenever The Trial is brought up, I think the director deserves a mention, too. Some hack named Welles. He said it was the best movie he ever made but how good can that be?? 😁

Louis Marzullo

Also Dawn, Sam is married. He meant that once he's divorced, he'll have to pay his now ex-wife alimony (thank GOD that doesn't exist anymore! 🤣). And Marion meant she has to pay an emotional price (I think) for carrying on the affair in secret... Btw, am I the only one who thinks Vera Miles is prettier than Janet Leigh? 🤔

Bartleby

Irrelevant as Dawn has no context for who that is or his legacy. I believe in letting the films speak for themselves Loi’se 😉

Louis Marzullo

🤣 Oh my, that's a good one! "I believe in Ietting the films speak for themselves". Thank you, I needed that!

Ted Little

The quick way to figure it is that $40,000 is enough to buy a house for the daughter of an oil baron.
