44-minute reaction!! BOO-YA!! (oldie but goodie expression of approval, delight! 😄)

Simon

Spider pig 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Simon

Also, you're allowed to like Marvel AND DC 😁 They both have their own hits and misses

Bill W

One of my favorite bits is that now it's canon that the street busker came up with the Spider-man theme. I didn't care for the Andrew Garfield Spider-man, I just don't like him. Aside from the Christopher Nolan Batman movies, the DC movies have mostly been terrible.

Louis Marzullo

Mary Jane's legs... those weren't white stockings??? 🤯🤔😄

Bill W

Technically it wasn't Peter's fault that Ben was there. Peter wanted to take the train. Ben insisted on driving him. And Peter didn't kill the robber, he just fell. It was accidental. I think the Goblin only used the vaporizing ball to kill the board of directors for his corporation. The rest were just explosives. Peter is afraid to be with Mary Jane because he realized that anyone who is close to him will be in danger. As soon as the Goblin found out who he was, he went right after Aunt May and Mary Jane.

jay buff

Good ole Bruce Campbell (ring announcer) coining the name, 'Spider-man'.

Bill W

The kid named "Flash" at Peter's high school is just some schmuck. He's not The Flash. (besides, The Flash is a DC character). Forget about the 3 Spider-mans in one movie until you watch that movie. There's 3 Tobey Maguire movies. Spider-man 1, 2 and 3. The 2 Andrew Garfield movies are called The AMAZING Spider-man. That was a complete re-boot. I have no idea why they made those. And Tom Holland in The Avengers movies is another re-boot. Just take the movies one at a time and don't try to figure out how they fit together later....because none of that was planned. That goes for the X-Men movies and Deadpool too!!

Louis Marzullo

"This is actually done really well for a 2002 movie". Oh you millenials!! Like it was 1902!! 🤣... Dawn, you didn't recognize who played J. Jonah Jameson, the editor of the newspaper!! I'll give you a hint: 🥁

Louis Marzullo

Um, Dawn, I think maybe Mary Jane remembered how Peter's lips felt rather than how his tongue tasted... 😝

Ragnar Miersch

Spider-Dawn, Spider-Dawn, does whatever a spider cawn...I'll see myself out.

Louis Marzullo

In the comic, Flash Thompson becomes a slightly more sympathetic character with time. He goes to Vietnam, falls in love with a girl there, loses her, then finds her again in NYC but it doesn't work out. 💔

Chicago Artist Jon

Taking a company public in order to issue stock so you can raise revenue means you no longer own the company. The person or person’s combined that hold the most stock can make the decisions. So even though he was the CEO in charge, the board of directors can gang up on him and combine their voting shares and force him out. That’s oversimplified but a short description.

Ceryk

Funny you say it always goes bad when scientists experiment on themselves, I just read about a scientist that experimented on herself and cured her cancer

Louis Marzullo

That's what happened to dear old Fezziwig & here's hoping that Dawn watches 1951's "Scrooge" with Alastair Sim this Christmas season! 🎄

Louis Marzullo

👍🏻 I'll be the one holding up a giant poster of Woody Guthrie with his guitar! Dawn: "Bound For Glory", starring an old friend who was also referenced in Hot Fuzz 🦗. Now aren't you intrigued?? 🤔

Simon

I'd strongly disagree about most DC movies being terrible. Watchmen is excellent. V for Vendetta is one of my top ten films. Man of Steel and BvS extended are excellent reinterpretations that have a very different tone to Marvel. The Suicide Squad is fantastic. The Flash was great fun. Batman 89 is also great. And Shazam. To be fair though, Aquaman is too long and meandering. WW is fine. WW84 is too long. Suicide Squad is forgettable. Black Adam is ok but oddly directed. So yes, there are some really average movies in there, but a lot are very strong. (and I know I've still missed many many of them)

Bill W

Louis...and starred in Kill Bill. And a small role for the Mom from A Christmas Story. (which Dawn hasn't reacted to. Has she seen it off the channel?)

Bill W

Yeah Simon, I should rephrase that and just say I haven't cared for the bulk of them as a whole. Not counting Batman 89, the Nolan Batmans, and V for Vendetta which I really liked- but don't really consider that a superhero movie. I'm mostly referring to the Justice League related ones..(as they compare to the Infinity Saga)... Green Lantern, Man of Steel, BvS, Justice League, WW, WW1984, The Flash, Black Adam, Shazam, Aquaman.... but also Suicide Squad, THE Suicide Squad, Joker, The Batman. (as a kid, I actually had a 'Superman and Shazam VS Black Adam' comic book) Some of them I flat-out didn't like. Some of them I liked, but even those don't hold a lot of re-watch value for me. Keeping in mind, my level of comic book knowledge as a moviegoer is somewhere in the middle. I'm certainly not "Comic Book Guy", but I'm not going in totally blank like Dawn, either. If I had been a more avid comic reader when I was young, I might dig them a little more. (OR if I was completely in the dark, I might have liked them more too). (edit) Some of my gripes had to do with character depiction, some with storytelling/writing/directing/dialogue, some with acting..and the actors themselves. And some probably due to my lack of knowledge.)

Louis Marzullo

I don't think so. We would have heard a reference to it by now. Plus, it's too old for Dawn to have watched it pre-channel 😁... Melinda Dillon just died last year (R.I.P.)

Louis Marzullo

Nice to see such a robust yet civil exchange. Very informative, also. Well-done, gents. 👏🏻

Bill W

Well, if we can't be robust and civil all is lost. 🤣 (personally, I could stand to be slightly less robust these days. I'm about to robust out of these pants!)

Bill W

I thought the Maguire Spidermans looked better than the Garfield ones that came out 10 years later. And really..this first batch of superhero movies (Xmen and Spiderman) were leaps ahead of what we had come to expect. (although Blade and Spawn slightly preceded them).

Simon

Thanks Bill. I'll start with your last point on lack of knowledge - to be honest if the movie requires you to have read the source material first, it's already failed. I think that's what Nolan's trilogy does really well - it contains everything you need in the movie to follow along. I had kinda forgotten about Green Lantern 🤣 which to be fair I don't mind. It's still much better than Thor The Dark World. I broadly agree that, when compared to the Infinity Saga, the DCEU had quality issues and a complete lack of plan. There's a lot to like, as per my other post, but the lack of consistency and follow through was frustrating. The MoS sequel being one. Studio meddling being another. Silliness like two separate endings for different Batmen being shot for Aquaman 2 and neither being used. Having said all that, I did like the different tones and styles and it often felt more daring than Marvel which remained very safe and similar. I think that's why it was fine to use the Infinity Saga momentum to get to Endgame, but then things slumped immediately afterwards. Covid didn't help of course, but the next phase of films are pretty uninspired. I feel the new Superman etc will start to address the problems DC had and I'm looking forward to them.
