2026-10-07 05:00 Wow what an awesome surprise. You are spoiling us Jen, I’m gonna be up late watching all these tonight 🔥🖖

timdoesphoto

Heck yes! Look forward to syncing this when I get home!

Banes

Nice!

Rob Nichols

Same. I combine the reactions with the show/movie in an editor, I'll be busy tonight. Engage!

Jason Weiner

I'd love to see you watch ALL of these!!

Banes

I had to look these up, but peeking at your own, or someone else's reactions to Errand of Mercy and The Trouble with Tribbles again is worth it if you have the time. Oh, next week is gonna be great. Been looking forward to it!

phillip giroux

My advice to the world right now... Turn off social media and turn on old school Trek. We need something to help us believe in a better tomorrow for humanity now more than ever.

Rob Nichols

This past week has been brutal.

Curran Dobbs

I'm hoping you'll let us know during next week's DS9 episode when you figure out why Errand of Mercy, Trouble With Tribbles (both of which you've seen), and this one are recommended pre-viewing. Of course, if you know they're recommended pre-viewing, it should come to you pretty quickly. :)

TigerMyth

Wow! Bonus TOS. Nice. Thank Jen!

Brett Whittaker

IMO DS9 doesn’t start till Blood oath. If I start a rewatch that’s the first one I watch

Bobby Coolbreeze

I just watched this episode on my original series rewatch wish I knew you gonna check it out. So as mentioned in a previous comment This episode, along with errand of mercy and the trouble with tribbles will all be relevant to a Deep space nine episode coming up. As you maybe have guessed the 3 original series episodes have one thing in common. We are all hoping you remember when you watch lol We don’t want to spoil it for you!

thansen

Wow! This is a pleasant surprise. Nothing against the other Trek series but I always prefer TOS.

Bobby Coolbreeze

As far as other TOS episodes a few come to mind of ones you did not watch that have become a few of my favorite. There are a lot of very bad ones so much so they are cheesy and cringe lol The 3 i would suggest is the Spectre of the gun, the Savage Curtain and The Ultimate Computer.

Curran Dobbs

Kang, the Klingon Captain in this episode, was mentioned in the episode of DS9 with that scientist who's wife wanted a divorce but was from a planet that forbade it (and where Sisko was into the wife's psychic projection) earlier in season 2. He was the subject of a poem they mentioned a few times, but also relevant to the episode you'll release next week.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Nice bit of continuity, Kang's sash is pretty much identical to Worf's S1 gold version (red tunic). I can't imagine it's the exact same one but they're so similar you'd swear it was. Props to the props people.

Lee

Can't wait to see what the mystery TOS episode will be. My enthusiasm is tempered only by my trepidation.

thansen

I used to think there were a lot of bad ones in season 3 but I have changed my mind on that quite a bit. There are only a handful of TOS episodes I dislike.

Dion James Pitman

It actually was the exact same one...probably not intended to be the exact same one in-universe of course, but the prop was reused from TOS

Rob Nichols

Kang was played by Michael Ansara, at the time he was married to Barbara Eden from I Dream Of Jeannie.

Rob Nichols

The Ultimate Computer is a fave, along with This Side Of Paradise, A Taste Of Armageddon, The Paradise Syndrome. And of course The Way To Eden :P

Geoff S.

Gamesters of Triskelion is a great TOS episode.

Nathan Burgess

Thanks for the bouns episode Jen you are simply awesome

Joshua M Freeman

"Nefarious Ball of Light" would be a good name for a band.

Summer

There are 6-7 episodes of TOS I might press because you would like them, Squire of Gothos would feel familiar, but a Taste of Armageddon and Operation Aniliate would give the feels, one info I think you don’t have with out it. Let That Be Your Last Battlefield is not only in the running for the 6th longest title (half joke everyone don’t start counting) but interesting. Thanks for the extra episode!

Summer

This was the first time we saw a klingon woman

John DiGiantomasso

I am SO glad you took the advice to watch this! 💖💖💖 (I think YOU will be glad you watched this, too!)

Summer

Anything can happen in DS9

Summer

Oh tempting us with more Trek!

TigerMyth

I know you weren't excited about jumping into Voyager but I assume you are going to watch the movies. You might want to have someone figure out the order or best starting point because there could be some slight spoilers if you start rolling into the movies without getting to a certain point in DS9.

Summer

This episode shows a difficult thing with hollywood, the idea of cultures all being one basic shade. I know you know Klingons, Vulcans and others can be any shade of color, though blue could be concerning for either I guess….

Ken Schneyer

I know I've said it before, but it makes me really impatient when fans insist that you have to see an entire early episode in order for you to recognize one character, vehicle, artifact, locale, (or sometimes even one *line*) in a later episode of a different series where the original makes literally no difference. I have a soft spot for "Day of the Dove" because I liked it as a kid, but as a piece of writing it's pretty clunky, and IMO there is literally nothing we find out in that episode that adds anything at all to "Blood Oath", except for one thing that is explained merely by the fact that people asked you to watch it in the first place. So again, without spoilers, my hypothesis is that "Blood Oath" would have been exactly the same, so far as its impact, theme, and character development, if the things you "had to know" from previous episodes weren't there at all.

Ken Schneyer

What I think this is about is the fans wanting you to feel what we felt when we saw [X thing] appear in the later episode that referenced the earlier episode. But of course that's impossible. In our case, we'd first seen the earlier episode more than a quarter-century before the later episode, we'd seen it multiple times, and it had a place in our hearts because we'd lived with it in memory for so long. So the fanservice for *us* brought up an entire flood of memories and emotions that were gratifying in-and-of themselves. But there's no way to replicate that frisson by asking you to watch the earlier episode, once, just a few days before watching the later one. Sure, you'll go, "Oh, I see," and maybe it will make you smile or shed one tear, but it can't do for you what it did for us. This is longing for a connection that we can't really have.

Kristin

Taste of Armageddon is one of my favorite episodes. Journey to Babel, Piece of the Action, Doomsday Machine, Amok Time, Balance of Terror. So many good episodes.

Kristin

Jen, while it's not specifically necessary, it would be fun to watch the TOS episode Mirror Mirror before watching the DS9 episode, Crossover, which comes up in a few weeks. It's a good TOS episode, and would make your DS9 watch more enjoyable.

Summer

I think you will like Voyager especially…many things

thansen

I'm just happy she did react to Day of the Dove. I don't care at all about Blood Oath, though.

TigerMyth

It does have in my opinion one of the creepiest, sickest episodes of all Trek. Or old school Trek. i don't know if new Trek has anything to surpass it.

Desmond

I don't think you should skip Voyager. It's the weakest show up to that point, but it's still Trek, and you'd be missing out on a lot of things if you did.

Desmond

I definitely co-sign on Taste of Armageddon. It's one of the best examples of a prototypical Trek episode and is very clever and thought-provoking.

Summer

We may need to search which TOS Jen watched, I have seen 3 other reactors and Jen react to TOS and I may get what Jen hasn’t watched mixed up with what she did watch, it doesn’t matter that I rewatched her TOS reactions last week….that doesn’t mean I know

Summer

Jen did mirror mirror its here on Patreon

jon bolton

My favourite episode of season 3 of TOS. I don't currently have it on Amazon to watch with you, but i'll dig out my old dvd of it later and happily watch. Oh i just realised why you watched this. Kang was in it, i just remembered which DS9 you are watching.

Kristin

Ahh ok, that may have been before I joined. I'll go look for it!

Summer

I rewatched her watching these recently and still had to check

jon bolton

It's not easy to find but it' s bunched up in a video of about 4 TOS episodes but i' ve watched it too on here, my favourite TOS episode. Search Jen's TOS videos for it.

jon bolton

Actually Jen considering how useless in general i am with tech stuff no. Thanks, that will help😋

Jason Scade

What a cool surprise! Classic TOS ep / themes. Great reaction.. "..those nefarious balls of light!" 😅 The episode should have been called 'Day of the Nefarious Ball of Light'. Excited for surprise TOS upload. 🖖

TigerMyth

I definitely think you would enjoy seeing a female captain but we don't know the views you are getting with Trek. And Voyager didn't have as many fans. Enterprise even fewer.

Summer

I saw most of TOS as an adult almost 18 years ago including Taste of Armageddon, it was shocking and interesting at the same time, even DS9 had trouble with that at times. (I first saw Arena at 4, Assignment earth probably one because I named a cat Isis, and Voyage home first in theaters at 5 so I was not unaware of TOS just had more TNG and the others first, to me the Voyage Home is Star Trek.)

Banes

In general I agree but Blood Oath is the one exception. Knowing what’s going on makes that episode epic. In my opinion anyway - that might not apply to anyone else, haha.

Bammer

Such a lovely surprise to come home from work to. You're awesome, as always, Jen.

Desmond

Well, at the time, I think Voyager had higher ratings than DS9. But the latter has definitely aged better.

Alexis Vorian

Did she watch the Tribbles TOS episode? that's gonna be relevant in DS9 too.

John DiGiantomasso

Just watched the review. You are so much fun! 😃 I can't wait for next week!!!

Carlos Stevens

I hope you got all three episodes that you should watch before Blood Oath: Errand Of Mercy, Day Of The Dove and The Trouble With Tribbles. And I ESPECIALLY hope no one gave away any spoilers!

Summer

Yes its on patreon and YouTube

John Sullivan

I wonder if Gene imagined people watching this in 2025

John Sullivan

Yes of course. We all knew that, Jen. Right? I'm not the only idiot just finding that out 😂

Summer

All of these are on patreon and youtube though any day is a good day for Tribbles

John DiGiantomasso

Yeah, I don't think there is much relevant in character development that is essential to understanding the plot. But what I think is cool is that the DS9 writing/production team had the inspiration, idea, plan and execution to pull off this casting. That is what blew me away, and it was so cool to see. To me it was reminiscent of Roger Rabbit where we had the scene with Micky/Bugs and Daffy/Donald sharing the screen. Pretty cool to get the rights from rival studios to do that. So for me, Blood Oath is a great episode where the DS9 Team proudly shouted "look what we can do!" And I absolutely loved it!

TigerMyth

I'm definitely in the group of folks that initially weren't big fans of DS9 but now I have it up near the top.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Now that you say that, my friend, it feels like something I knew and then had subsequently forgotten. Thanks for catching me back up, boss 🫡

Desmond

I mean, you're right of course, you don't "need" to have seen this episode to enjoy an upcoming DS9 episode...but are we really complaining about more Trek reactions from Jen? It's not like she's skipping TNG or DS9 in favor of this, lol.

Desmond

Of course the Federation doesn't have "death camps", but the fact that the Klingons believe they do is a reference to real world instances where soldiers have been fed such lines about their enemies to discourage surrender. For example, Japanese soldiers who surrendered to Americans in WW2 were surprised how well they were treated, because they had been told by their superiors that they would be tortured and killed by the barbaric Americans.

Chris Biebel

BTW, funny thing in this episode. Right after Chekov attacks the Klingon woman, when he's thrown against the wall, if you look at the wall, there are hand prints from Chekov that were made by Mara's makeup that ended up on his hands.
