What you call annoying, I call endearing 😉

Geoff S.

I have been waiting all week for this!! I’m so sorry everyone picked this for you because I knew it was going to freak you out. I hope this is one of your highest viewed reactions when you finally post it. 😃

Dylan

Yessss!!!! The original Evil Dead is one of my all time favourite horror movies. It’s also the movie that launched Sam Raimi’s career.

Kristen

So excited, I will have to wait a few hours until it’s dark outside! 🌌

Jason Scade

I prefer viewing in a disused cellar. Poor lighting. Indefinable odor. Low ammo.

Harvey Lee

I could never be annoyed by your reactions Jen 😃 , You react honestly and that's why I 'm here for it This is an ultra intense one and yes maybe one of the goriest ones ever , I predict a lot of blanket clutching for this one 😆

Jason Scade

Awesome. 😎 I've been looking forward all week, I honestly thought you'd never watch this. Bravo! This will def get a shedload of views on YT, perhaps give it a tag on YT similar to your The Exorcist tag; "Total wimp watches...". Your reaction to The Exorcist was the first ever reaction of yours that I saw and I was largely drawn by the tag, it promised an animated reaction. You delivered in spades. 🏆 Got my chainsaw. Press play. 😱

Kristin

Yeah, the gore is a bit much, I agree. Evil Dead 2 is also. But I think you will enjoy Army of Darkness, which is what I'm looking forward to (if/when you watch it). The gore is toned down quite a bit. I'm not into a lot of gore either. Blech.

Rob Nichols

This came at a time when film makers, especially the low budget independents, were trying to out gross each other with the gore effects. The low budget films like this, where the effects weren't quite convincing, were always more fun to me than the big budget studio films. They have more charm, and I always applaud the effort even when they didn't work out. The Evil Dead being one of the better ones.

Banes

Low budget legend. It scared me so much when it played on TV way back!

rubberkidney

sounds great, scared grossed out AND talking a lot? what do you even think im here for?! 2 and a of d next up??

rubberkidney

Adam R

spacious_recroom

I thought your reaction was great, and you talking all the way through is kind of the point. 😉 If I didn't want to hear your comments and commentary, I wouldn't bother watching the reaction and I'd just watch the movie again. 😂 I did notice though that you were really giving off a real Tina Belcher vibe especially when you were most tense. 👍 🤣

Jason Scade

0:58 "They're all gonna die." Almost called it. 15:06 A cinema poster for 'The Hills Have Eyes' in the background. Classic 70s horror by Wes Craven. It's brutal though! Cannibalistic desert dwellers waylay unsuspecting travelling families. Probably loosely inspired by the history(?)/legend(?) of the 16th Century Scottish cannibal clan of Sawney Bean. 31:09 "The demons are mechanics." 😅 48:47 "That's a morning job!" (burying dismembered body) 😅 1:04:04 Possessed "dead" Linda's dark hair turns into a big Harpo Marx' blonde curly wig. 😅 1:18:03 The gifted necklace lays in the shape of a skull. You made it! 👏👏👏 Fabulous reaction, excellent job! This movie is some piece of work, it had you creeped almost immediately, had you fretful in less than 2 mins and had the blanket doing its job less than 7 mins in. Raimi is a master. Yes, the film was a huge financial success, when it eventually got picked up in cinemas. It was initially banned in the UK, upon video cassette release, as an infamous 'video nasty'. As usual, banning it just made more people want to see it. This is a reaction for the ages, Jen. 🏆 🥂 If you ever have the time, there is a great behind the scene docu on making The Evil Dead. 53 mins. It's on YT. You may enjoy watching, it'll take away much of the film's lingering terror for you. A reaction would be amazing, you'd be the only person on YT with it. Apparently it was hellish to film, the cabin stank of animal $hit - they had to clean it out before filming, it was freezing cold at night, the contact lenses worn hurt their eyes, filming went way over calendar schedule, etc. Documentary- THE EVIL DEAD.- 1981- BEHIND THE SCENES. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npVeDwe6RwM You'll have a lot more fun with part II and only be slightly terrified. The series becomes significantly less bloody and intense as it continues. I was allowed to watch The Evil Dead (on pirate vhs) - also Texas Chainsaw Massacre '74 - when I was 10 y.o. Thanks, folks, great parenting! 😄❤👍👍 Superb thumb, btw. Looking forward to E.D. II (though the first is my personal fave). After you do the trilogy, you might consider the tv series 'Ash vs. Evil Dead', it has a big fanbase. 3 seasons. Nowhere near as intense as E.D.1. Also, The Evil Dead was remade in 2013. It's a pretty solid remake/re-imagining.. whatever they labelled it. Quite brutal. The 2013 remake has a sequel; 'Evil Dead: Rise', it's set in a block of flats.

Kristin

My parents let me watch whatever I wanted. The only rule was that if I got scared, I had to turn it off. I mean, we watched Jaws as a family when I was 4. I just thought it was gross, and my sister asked, "Is that it?" Lol!

Rob Nichols

4:45 "It doesn't matter you're all gonna die anyway." That's the cheery delightful optimism we've all come to expect from you Jen lol. I don't know how planned out your Halloween schedule is, but if you can try to squeeze in Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. No gross out horror just old fashioned spooky laughs. I think you'll love it, it's one of the best spoofs ever and Bud and Lou's best and most beloved film.

Also happens to be really fun

Jason Scade

I have the big man's autograph. 🤩 It's on an Evil Dead promo photo, it also features the model, behind Ash, in Jen's thumbnail (who isn't actually in the movie).

Jason Scade

That's a good rule. 👍 Unfortunately, for me, I was too paralyzed with fear to turn it off. Eventually, I'd trained my toe to turn down the volume with the remote.

Curran Dobbs

Fun Fact: The reason Ash (Bruce Campbell) was the one to survive the movie was because he was the one actor who was available long enough to stick around until the end of filming.

TheADHDOverlord

That was a fun watch along. Evil Dead 2 is MUCH Better (to join the chorus)

Yann Laliberte

I will always remember seeing my then 12 year old brother sleeping on the couch near my parents bedroom after having watched this movie the night before in theather. I was 7 and he told me about it the followinf days. I never wanted to see a movie that much afterwards

Zapp Rowsdower

I'm in the strange camp of people who watched the Evil Dead trilogy in reverse order. Not on purpose, but I saw Army of Darkness, with no idea it was part of a trilogy, let alone the last of the trilogy. Then, Evil Dead 2 was on cable, so I watched that. Then, eventually the original, which is so different in tone, since it lacks any intentional comedy.

Opti_Frog

Is this the goriest gore-fest of a movie ever? No. That particular accolade goes to an absolutely amazing 90s splatstick-zombie-comedy by Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson: Braindead (re-titled Dead Alive in the US).

Summer

Lets all request Patrick Stewart’s Christmas carol for Christmas on the request site. Lets just vote for everything you think Jen would want to see. Jen I didn’t vote for this, I have no desire to see you scared, but your reactions are so genuine I see why others want you to see scary things.

Jeff H

It's a bit musty, might want to air that bitch out. lol

Summer

Thank you who ever added the 2003 cheaper by the dozen on the request site, I asked for the older but wanted to suggest both, I voted for yours too.

Brad Shelton

Technically not a spoiler but avoid if you really want superdyduper blind To reduce confusion watching the second movie, it's not exactly a sequel more kind of a retelling that goes on further, if you didn't know that information it will be extremely confusing to watch.

Collinson

I'm a bit late but I look at it like this Evil Dead is like a student film where they were experimenting and trying to work out filming techniques and styles. Evil Dead 2 is where they got a bit more money and more of an idea of what they wanted. Then there's a third Evil Dead called Evil Dead The Army of Darkness each film gets more wacky as they go. They also brought the franchise back as a TV show called Ash vs Evil Dead which had three amazing seasons. Then there's two Evil Dead reboot films with different directors which are okay as basic horror films but have a very different style than the original trilogy and TV show.

Harvey Lee

I met Peter Jackson when he was promoting that film DEAD ALIVE an absolute bonkers GORE FEST !! And it had a Late night screening , it was one of the most enthusiastic movie crowds i'd ever seen !

Harvey Lee

He was the one with the most stamina to have survived all that , he was also a childhood friend of SAM RAIMI 's Bruce Campbell has really been the face of the EVIL DEAD franchise for 40 years now .

Jesse

When I was young I just thought Ash wasn't too bright and just decided to go back up there

Opti_Frog

Yeah, seeing Braindead at the cinema is one of the best movie going experiences of my life. It was released completely uncut here in Sweden and the crowd was going absolutely bonkers with laughter. 😄
