I can’t believe we’re almost done TNG. What an awesome journey it has been so far and I’m glad that I joined you along for the ride Jen 🔥🖖

Geoff S.

Not my favorite episode. In fact the last season is hit and miss for me throughout.

Ian

Love next Jen Sunday's , not many episodes left now so gotta treasure every one 🔥🖖 engage

rubberkidney

i guess in the enlightened 23rd century they didnt get the message that saying 'indian' makes them evil white racists.

Curran Dobbs

Wesley was also the tactical officer in one of the parallel universes Worf in that episode called "Worf and His Interdimensional Adventures Through Time and Space" or "Parallels" or whatever it was called.

Banes

No spoilers, but they knew they were making at least one movie - they were working on the script already (at the time), and the movie came out just a few months after the series finale.

Banes

I was right with you on the Geordi scene - it must have had more impact on the screen than in the script, since they didn't have a followup scene. Or maybe they had a scene that ended up deleted; no idea. I was waiting to see Wesley apologize the whole time!!

Vina

I'm not sure what your point is. "Indian" was still the most common term for North America's indigenous people in 90s popular culture. Also TNG takes place in the 24th century

Summer

Jen’s enthusiasm makes some episodes more bearable

Summer

As always there were behind the scenes issues

Paul Peavler

As spoiler-free as possible, yes, they already knew about the first TNG movie at this time and it was already in preproduction. This year of Trek had a lot of behind-the-scenes moves going on as TNG was winding down, some people moved early in the season to start working on the script and preproduction for the first movie and some people moved over to start preproduction on Voyager, which had already been planned to pick up the next season in TNG’s place. That’s why season 7 of TNG is kind of up-and-down and why DS9’s second season starts to make bigger moves and set up larger stories than you saw in season 1, especially near the end. There were a lot of writers and producers moving around behind the scenes trying to set up the next phase of Trek, which was Voyager/DS9 on TV and TNG movies, and a lot of writer leadership changed, especially on DS9.

Opti_Frog

I know exactly what their point is, and it's a bogus one.

Bobby Coolbreeze

A very interesting episode that has repercussions and ramifications in future episodes of other series in the immediate future.

Bobby Coolbreeze

Season 7 was planned as the finale season as they were planning feature films. So yes the writers in a way were trying to bring some plots full circle. Only 5 episodes left I believe. The series finale counts as 2 episodes but originally aired as a 2 hour finale

rubberkidney

my point that they 'tried' to be super good progressives by including indian culture in star trek but the modern leftist purity cult that is the outgrowth of that supidity would burn them to the ground for using the word 'indian'. That wouldnt happen? its bogus? hmm dont think so.

Vina

I think anyone using their brain can understand that was just the wording used back then, as I already mentioned. It would come off as cringe if the script was written in 2025, but it's from 1994. The script has larger issues from that era: white folds writing scripts depicting American indigenous cultures as sort of a hodgepodge of element from different groups, and using them as a props to help give "mystical insights" to some white person (Wesley)... which is why it's been important for indigenous writers and directors to have the chance to produce media about their own cultures.

rubberkidney

yea thats what i see. people being totally understanding of when the wrong words are used. they are so reasonable and ready to consider context! lol they would have been dragged into the streets and burned as 'nazis' by a bunch of delusional commies.

Fanchman

Paramount shows the finale as one episode

Kat

Never was the biggest fan of this episode, but I like that they tied up Wesley's story. In the first season, especially in the Traveler episode, they set him up as this unusual talent that could see beyond even most human understanding. And then in later seasons... he became just another very smart, but otherwise fairly usual, starfleet cadet, pursuing an ordinary Starfleet career. It makes sense that at some point he would feel unfulfilled in that role.

TheADHDOverlord

I was going to simply post that Production on the Final Season and The 1st TNG Movie (Generations) did occur at the same time. But then saw someone else comment and wanted to check my memory. I does appear that they were shooting episodes of the final season while they filmed the movie. "Filming commenced on March 28, 1994. Generations and The Next Generation were filmed simultaneously on different soundstages on the Paramount Studios lot." Per Wikipedia, though it does support what I heard and have thought for a long time. HOWEVER.... The Main Cast did not start shooting until a few days after wrapping the series... there was practically no time to breathe.

Bobby Coolbreeze

Yes but in reruns on syndication it was split up as 2 episodes. But officially it is one episode

Bobby Coolbreeze

So next’s weeks DS9 episode loosely ties into this Cardassian /federation plot

Anthony Hernandez

Jen, hopefully you will watch the version of the finale that is the one continuous single episode. Some streaming services show it as a two-parter, which deletes several scenes or at least parts of scenes from the episode.

Lintrinsic

The only person I see making an issue of it here is you.

Lintrinsic

There's something that has always irritated me about this episode. Wesley aggravates an already tense situation and nearly starts a riot under the guidance of the Traveller in human form. Then it's suddenly none of their business and not for them to intervene. WTF?

rubberkidney

oh no im just laughing at the stupidity of moral panic. you couldnt be more wrong. im not making any issue. i love it when dumb people are stupid and i can laugh at them.

DarthChef

The fact that you resort to name calling speaks more about the person you are than it does about anyone else

rubberkidney

first of all, no it doesnt thats a complete false premise. second of all when did I 'name call' and against who? im curious to see the depth of your delusion. because i called a bunch of moralizing ignorant communists 'commies'? thats LITERALLY what they are. did i hit to close to home?
