Dylan

Jen and Star Trek. The two best things that we look forward to every week 🔥🖖

The_Truth

Rest in peace Tony Todd

Brian Straight

Why am I more excited to see her react to "Bar Association" more than almost any other?

Fanchman

Perfect timing! Just finished packing for a trip, so I'm ready to chill with a cocktail and some DS9.

Curran Dobbs

Probably been mentioned but Worf's brother is played by the guy who played elderly Jake Sisko in "The Visitor" a few weeks back.

Laura Thornley

I love Bar Association. Its one of my favourite episodes of Trek, period.

Paul Peavler

The birth of comrade Rom, let’s gooooo

Bobby Coolbreeze

Sons of Mogh is another great Klingon episode and pretty much a sequel to the TNG Klingon family episodes. It is tragic for Worf. I felt for him. Such a good and honorable Klingon but has no place in their society. His story of struggle with being an outsider carries over from TNG. But this time on DS9 he doesn’t have his Star Fleet family to turn to. Dax is the only one who understands his difficulties. Worf’s journey continues. Having him join this show was fantastic move by the producers and opened up alot of possibilities for this show. As you can see with the Klingons and the Dominion. The show really found its identity this season. Season 3 also became a jumping off point with the addition of the Defiant. You couldn’t have them always contained to the station and fighting the Dominion with Runabouts. The Defiant and Worf are game changers and a real turning point for the series while still focusing and allowing the crew to shine.

The_Truth

Cloaked mines in space 🤔

jon bolton

Perfect timing. I just finished binge watching Season 1 of Star Trek Discovery for the first time, now to my favourite space station😋

Banes

I really like Kurn, love Tony Todd, and Sons of Mogh is a great episode...other than that ending. Speaking not of future episodes, but only for this episode and what's come before, this doesn't seem like a good ending for Kurn. I know what matters more is how it impacts Worf - but it seems like it could have been done some other way. Maybe Kurn goes off on some suicide mission, saving Worf and leaving to seek hopefully-honorable death...I don't know. Something other than what happened!

Over50Gamer

RIP the great Tony Todd. I saw Final Destination Bloodlines in the theater and nearly cried with his last scene for the franchise. His speech was his love letter to the fans.

Banes

Bar Association! Always love a Quark and Rom story! Clever and fun idea. Frikkin Brunt - that Ferengi swine, eh? Hate him! Love the actor! Love to hate Brunt!

Laura Thornley

To expand on my initial comment - I love episodes like this that focus on supporting characters. DS9 does this very well - takes a minor character with very little going on and turning them into a great character you can base entire episodes around.

Squeesher

Me too! DS9 is imho the best TV Series with this kind of writing, not even just the best Trek Series

Squeesher

Chase Masterson has "re"entered the chat ❤️❤️ Edited to hopefully make it clear that in no way am I saying this is her first appearance on the show. I just like her performance in Bar Association in particular. She gets to show a bit more of Leeta's personality.

Geoff S.

Kurn reborn as --- Candyman! I think Jen did ask last week if there were going to be any more in depth character based episodes coming up soon and she was right!

Henchman Twenty1

We have seen the Ferengi Liquidator Brunt before in the DS9 episode "Family Business" where Quark and Rom traveled back to their homeworld because their mother (Moogie) earned profit. The big, scarey guys are Nausicans, one of which was responsible for stabbing a young Picard though the heart in the TNG episode "Tapestry" featuring Q.

Bobby Coolbreeze

We can’t say anything or tell you anything about the the next TNG movie lol As far as the episode Bar Association it was an episode that lays the foundation for future episodes 🤷‍♂️who can know😉

Banes

Oh yeah, I definitely saw some juice in those scenes between Dax and Worf!

Sykonee

Well, she'd already appeared in two episodes the season before (Explorers and Facets).

Sykonee

Is it any wonder that, after 'Sons Of Mogh' and last season's 'Life Support', some folks were beginning to call Bashir's operating room a Shop Of Horrors? After putting Worf through such a ringer regarding his outcast status (again), it was nice having a lighter b-story for him dealing with living on DS9. Don't know why, but it's rather calming when he manages to find his peace, whatever that may be.

Paul Peavler

I love DS9 Worf. Part of it is down to how much character development he gets so quickly. I feel like he got more development in these two episodes than he did in the first two or three seasons of TNG. And no spoilers but there’s still so much left to see. It’s no surprise considering Ronald D Moore wrote most of the Worf and Klingon episodes of TNG but at this point he was a writing supervisor and producer of DS9. But the other reason I love Worf on DS9 is because of how much he highlights the differences with TNG. I love the TNG crew, and they were my crew growing up watching reruns in the 90s and 2000s. But TNG has a very clean and sanitary depiction of Federation life considering it’s supposed to be a society free of material want that treasures personal liberty and infinite diversity in infinite combinations. DS9 is the other side of that, the side that’s a little messy and chaotic and probably a little too horny sometimes, but most everyone shares the same ideals and goals of community- and self-improvement and so they make it work. I’ve always loved that TNG can show us a vision of a utopian future for humanity when so much sci-fi is dystopian. But I adore DS9 for showing us how delicate and precious and messy and beautiful that is, and how difficult it is to maintain and protect it.

Squeesher

Heh, yup. She sure did! As a "Dabo girl" and as one of the former Dax hosts, mainly. Not much of Leeta herself, even tho it was the same character, technically.

William Rosmer

now the real question i have is would picard have let worf do it? i think he would have, but been disappointed with him after.

Desmond

That scene where Worf says "I have no family." gives me chills, every time.

Kristin

Yes, DS9 is the land of misfit toys.

Desmond

Bar Association is definitely one of, if not the best, Ferengi episodes. Tackles a serious and important issue, provides some much needed, overdue insight into Ferengi culture and labor laws, and even has a great b-plot with Worf struggling to adjust to life on DS9 and how different it is from the Enterprise. Great episode, just adding to the overall excellence that is season 4.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Don't get me wrong, I love Worf. But I find seeing Kira in command of the Defiant to be really satisfying. Especially after Return to Grace I feel like we need to appreciate what a great tactical mind she has. Not only having the Defiant at our disposal but also such a large selection of who to send out on missions is a pretty big deal. We have a really deep bench of command-capable officers here on DS9, Sisko, Kira, Worf, we've even seen Dax left in charge a few times. We've got a pretty amazing team.

Dean

Didn't Picard almost kick him out of Starfleet when he killed a Duras in an act of revenge?

Summer

Worf can’t even win a fight when the other wants to die, Kern lived a little too easily even with Dax intervening if Worf really tried it Kern would have died. Terri and Michael Dorn were friends so she would flirt on camera to get more scenes with him

Summer

Episode 16 is great yet to get the story to work Quark had to be exaggerated to a beyond Scrooge level which isn’t good business but a great episode, I know we were to be surprised by Rom resigning but I would have liked to at least see him having a talk with Sisko or such hinting at what was coming

William Rosmer

But he didn't. Also he scolded Riker for not wanting to participate in worf's assisted suicide.

Kev Longley

But he also encouraged Riker to consider Worf's request to help him die.

Sykonee

I found it a nice contrast, where Business-Man Quark can get "cranky" and penny-pinching when business is down, but never outright nefarious about it. Then you have Brunt come in, exhibiting just how malicious a Ferengi-With-Power can get.

Summer

True, Brunt is not a business man to me either, he is a cultural enforcer, and scum. But it is good to note Quark isn’t as horrid as brunt.

Summer

I love when Odo started listing issues the Enterprise had with security (without saying Worf had been in charge of security then.)

Kevin Sommerfield

So with the end of Bar Association, I believe we are exactly halfway through Deep Space Nine!

Lee

Now that Worf's presence isn't a secret anymore, I hope Jen will relax her reluctance to read the credits. Look how happy she was to see that LeVar Burton directed "Bar Association." Frankly, there's nothing spoilery about who wrote or directed an episode (nor about who the guest stars are, but that may be too high a hurdle to clear).

Joshua Maley

What I love about DS9 is that even in these bottle episodes where not much seems to happen, groundwork is laid for the future. There's a lot hinted at and set up in these two episodes (in particular, Bar Association) that gradually pays off later. It's not really until you do a re-watch (or three) that you fully appreciate just how many details and hints they're dropping here. These were two solid, mostly low key episodes in the middle of an exemplary season. It was sad, what happened to Worf's brother, and very morally gray for sure. At the time, I was in agreement with it because I didn't want him to die, but now...it's tough. And I love that they were okay leaving the audience feeling so uncertain about it. I remember being annoyed at the Ferengi episodes back in the day, when we had to wait a week (or more) for new episodes. It felt like, "the Dominion is out there, the Klingons are out there, why are we wasting time on silly episodes like this?" But of course in the many years and rewatches looking back, I appreciate episodes like these all the more. They were playing the long game before most of us really got what that meant for Star Trek. And sparks between Worf and Dax? Maybe. Hard to say.

Bobby Coolbreeze

As far as wiping Kurns memory. It is controversial. But I agree with it from Worf’s perspective. It gives Kurn a second chance and future. For Worf it’s very sad. He feels that he is more alone than ever before. Worf story arc does get more interesting though. By the end of the series he holds the record of being in more Star Trek episodes than anyone else i believe. He is probably the most flesh out character in Star Trek and in my opinion aside from Khaless the greatest Klingon in history!

John DiGiantomasso

I love how DS9 uses TNG aliens in background roles. Nausicans make good enforcers. And there were idiot Pakleds in the last couple of episodes, too. You have seen enough DS9 to see a lot of growth in some characters. Odo, introduced as a Cardassian leftover on the station with no backstory and even no identity to a member of the Founders, rulers of the Dominion. That places him in a totally different context. But Rom, Wow! Going from Quark's idiot brother, subject to constant abuse and degradation, and always the one blamed for all of Quark's mistakes to a strong, principled, and capable Ferengi - with a demonstrated knack for technical wizardry and basic good parenting! I think his growth has been strongest of all.

Coolbeans

Can I just say I love the watch-alongs, synching perfectly is difficult, even when tinkering with the browser, watch-alongs remove all the hassle

Senzu Bean

Can't wait for friday. Rules of Engagement is one of my favourites in season 4. The way it's shot is unique and the script is.. well.. engaging. Looking at the rest of the episodes, they're all very good to amazing, except for 'The Muse' and 'The Quickening' imo.

Brett Whittaker

I actually hate it how the federation is supposed to be all tolerant but they can’t accept Klingon traditions and law. It’s NORMAL for them to die an honorable death.

Marcus Hicks

This is why I love DS9 so much. The lives of the characters and their inter-relationships change over time-like Nog going to Starfleet and Rom going to work in Operations-and there is no "magic reset" button like there often was on the Enterprise-D.

Marcus Hicks

I loved how he just seemed to have that list to hand.....like he was expecting Worf to make that argument. I also love how it kind of makes fun of those TNG episodes he referred to.

Marcus Hicks

There is at least one that is equal to-if not slightly better than-this episode. I think you know the one I mean 😉.

Harmony Wisdom

Respect to Tony Todd as Kurn.. You have to feel for Worf's family. Their lives are constantly being flipped upside down!

Over50Gamer

Worf is all of us that have had to switch from a long-time job that we may have loved to something else entirely. It's such a shock to the mental faculties and I really feel for him. As other work-related things go and as a long-time nightshifter, I approve of Rom taking a night job doing what he is good at (fixing things and tinkering, of course). I've been working a morning job now for four years and I'm recently behind a desk now, but I miss working nightshift. It agreed with my mental health.

C_Drew

Yeah am still scratching my head about that

C_Drew

It was my first time watching it and I loved it! I always found it abhorrent the way Quark treated Rom and was absolutely stoked that he got to stand up for himself, get a great deal for the rest of the staff and finally get out from under Quarks tyranny. From him standing up for Nog to this, brava Rom! Onto technician duty!

C_Drew

Thats why I subbed into her patreon. Awesome reactor with full content. Great deal.
