Touch Me

Yeah... I'm actually going to just not comment some disturbing details that happened in other forms of adaptations of this story lol

Jonson rangnar

Yeah the webbnovel get in to some brutal things

Touch Me

Yea I was thinking of the web novel.... though I am sparing her , it is unfortunately the very first comment people make under this episode 😀

Ketanak

This is the part that divide the Overlord fans, some ditch Ains which is undertandable.

Twohearts Off

Damn, from what I remembered of this episode the sisters of the worker girl found a pouch of gold left on the windowsill or something like that (as if a servant of Ains sent them the pouch of the girl after she died), but it seems my brain made that up to dampen the trauma lol. If you felt like this was really unfair and sad, know that it doesn't get worse than that (in regard to an "innocent" character getting butchered by Ains for seemingly no reason). I hope this doesn't feel like a spoiler, it's just that anticipating a scene you didn't like might happen again can make watching an anime less fun (it was the case for me after this exact scene). This whole episode in pretty much just here to remind you that while Ains can sometime show mercy, you should not expect him to.

Pharos Dusklight

There is more details on this episode that the anime doesn’t explain but the light novel does, the necklace Ainz and the lizard people are using increases experience gain and levels, Ainz used that to improve in his weapon skills, the Nest place he refers too for the couple in the end is the insets place we saw earlier, there still one more dark detail there, the parents of the blond girl ended up selling her sisters and both sisters died for overwork

carbonfiberRS

Emotion rollercoaster in this episode be like......I have no mercy for thieves such as yourselves.....oh come on Ainz chill....however I will make an exception for that girl....yes good job Ainz....Shalltear, make her piss her pants and kill her....Ainz Nani the fuck what about the exception???? 😅

BynFlew

Yeah the sisters had such a horrifying ending in the original webnovel the author had to change their actual fates of them in the official Light Novel because of the backlash from all the fans saying it was too much lmao

T3RS1

I liked this anime to this point. It's still watchable but from this point I could not empathise with any characters anymore so even if I watched it all, I did not enjoy it as much. I'm not against gore and blood but waisting human lives for a whim is level too low for anyone. Yes some people should die and deserve pain more then death ... but most people do not live white or dark lives, most of people are too valuable to waste their lives for nothing. That's what I like about Slime. Rimuru for example understand that he needs power to protect people because as he said briliantly: "Power without conviction is meaningless." "Conviction without power is pointless." and he needs it to protect others. That is why he killed. Ains has both from start, he could do what ever he wanted to but he choose to not value human lives he alone could choose. It's not like he has some set settings also he just lack emotions. He still feel them but is just limited how much he can. To treat anyone as parasites or thiefs in this case while it was him who orchestrated all of this in the first place. Who are you punishing here for entering your home if you yourself invited them to do so (was said in this episode). In this case Ains lack conviction and does only things what Demiurge planned. He act like that only to save face. Only because some stupid NPC from stupid MDFK game were set to hate humanity and humans because bunch of roleplayers decided to "cosplay" as monters. Ains have no moral ground here he could step in and change it only he could, they all view him as a god but no ... he just went with it anyway, so no conviction here only power. Touch Me-sama would be so dissapointed in him if he was there.

Philotes

"he refers too for the couple in the end is the insets place we saw earlier" that's actually incorrect. It's worse. ;(

T3RS1

Could not write it better. It's still F-up.

Philotes

"Nesting room" - For the mental health of everyone reading this comment, I will not elaborate. That should tell you all you need to know. Poor Arche. Everyone gets attached to her. I don't think anyone likes it when watching it. ;( And it really wakes up a lot of people to how evil Ainz and Nazarick are even when they were doing evil things all along. (Like killing Lizards, Adventurers, etc.) Also, I kind of feel Arche may have survived if Ainz knew her whole story, but they tried lying to Ainz at the start and really pissed him off in the process. Even if they say she has sisters depending on her, Ainz wouldn't believe them. Finally, you have to admit it's a flex to have two small children kill the elite palace guards including 1 of the 4 strongest knights in the Empire.

Some guy

Sooo, yeah. Remember when I warned you that it got really dark? Remember when you said that you liked dark anime? Yeah. This is the point where I dropped the anime myself.

KillmanSVK

Yes , it's a dark episode and they censored it by leaving out some things from the LN

Twohearts Off

Yup, I can very well understand how some people could have dropped/paused the anime here. You kinda have to make peace with the fact that you're not watching a shonen and that your protagonist is far from being a hero, and your brain isn't wired to root for evil people.

karljuliuz

Ains is not angry, it's just an act. He planned it all remember, as he said last ep.

karljuliuz

Bruh what? This is the point where it gets more juicy and awesome.

Crawlingchaos03

*headpat* yeah the workers were planning to kill and rob the tomb out of their own greed. So I would defend myself. However adding the torture and...other things... That's way too much. We do have to remember Ainz isn't human anymore... It's not like he saw the workers backstory like we did. This is why this episode has its conflict with us.

The Force

Ah the gate episode, IE the point where if you haven't figured it out yet when you signed on to watch a show called overlord about a skeleton mage of death ruling over a tomb of monsters you're reminded that we are, in fact, watching the Villains who are capital E Evil xD You're not the first person or reactor to dislike this part, a lot of people dropped the show around this point when it first aired cause it "went too far" and such. If it helps a lot of people place personal and severe blame on Ainz for being cruel and causing indirect harm to people like the sisters when he simply did not have that information. It's not like he did background checks on these people. He was expecting basically expendable, scum of the earth types. That's what Workers were explained to him as in the first place, the seedy underbelly adventurers who would basically take any job. These people all ultimately came here for wealth, glory, or some other (mostly) selfish reason. He even reconfirms that they're there for money as Momon. It sucks, it's tragic, and I don't think if they had an opportunity to explain that Ainz would have been merciful enough to just let them go because again... Evil. But that's how life is, they took a gamble that they acknowledged might be dangerous. They lost, and the nature of Nazarick and it's denizens means they'll suffer a LONG time for it, and sadly so will those they left behind outside.

karljuliuz

Remember that this is a game world. The people in it isn't real people, and the MC is the "bad guy". The anime does a great job though at caring for side characters. The thing I love about Overlord might be the opposite of your feelings, I love how we get to see the view of a bad guy killing humans like insects.

Some guy

I am glad for you that you were able to enjoy the show after this. I genuinely am, but I need to be able to respect the protagonists of the shows I watch, at least a little, and Ainz's hypocrisy and pointless cruelty just turned me off to the show.

SomeNotTakenName

Poor little Neila just realised that the MC of this anime is, indeed, a villain.

George McCall

For me I liked this episode simply for the fact that Forsights (the group that lied) fate could have been different if they had just been upfront with "Momon" when he asked why they were going to the tomb in episode 6.

Sergio Gonzalez

6;20 mark - Wait, you just now picked up on that

Kirby745i

Gashokukochuuou is the cockroach guy from the last episode. Aura and some of the other guardians get creeped out by him and his children, which is why Aura wanted Mare to bring those bodies to Gashokukochuuou instead of her doing it herself. It is kind of funny how Aura is creeped out by the cockroach guy, considering all of her allies are non-human, but I don't blame her for being creeped out.

The Dark Knight

Dats overlord for u he's different kind of crazy and he's not a good guy and when someone enters your home without permission do u feel sorry for them or protect your home and family just big respect for that reasoning but hey that's my big take on it and my opinion ^_^ but dont worry Neila its going to be ok cheer up CX

supersparta333

(Ramble from LN reader, no spoilers) I can definitely understand why people kind of get the wind knocked out of their sails when they hit this part of the story. While yes, Ainz is an 'evil' protag from the beginning in the sense that he has no qualms about killing people, pretty much every person Ainz/Nazarick has killed on screen has had some moral justification (the Slane Theocracy attacking the village, Tuare's slavers, etc.) And even them, most of Ainz's actions fall in line into what most 'morally grey' protagonists would do: kill anyone that's obviously more evil. Even the really evil stuff of Nazarick happens because Ainz is oblivious to just how little the NPC's view humans as worth anything but resources (Demiurge especially). But Ainz always came across as more cold and calculating. In the Light Novel, it's a bit more built up, with Ainz even having moments around this time in the books where he realizes that the more time he's in the New World, the less human he's becoming. His capacity for empathy and compassion are slowly eroding. The Ainz of the beginning of the series states that he's only angry at Clementine for killing the Swords of Darkness adventuring group because 'they were supposed to help spread my reputation', and that he would have also eliminated them if they were inconvenient. But after Clementine is dead, he admits he's a hypocrite, and that he was genuinely upset that they were dead. I do get the argument that Ainz has always been 'a bad guy', but this is def the first slip into true villain behavior.

Nicolas guitton

her fate in the wn is way better, yes she end up being the sex slave of shalltear for a time but she is set free and reunited with her sisters

cash money

Yea this story arc is fucking mean, plain and simple. Its 10x more horrific in the novel

Sage Bastien

in the previous episode, when i was talking about twitter drama, it was about this one (x

Sage Bastien

oh and in the WEB NOVEL, this girl actually lived, the Author made a poll for people to chose if she must survive or not.. and people said yes Her fate tho? basically being the slave of Shalltear

ModsAre TooHard

So in WN her sisters werent sold as S* slaves and later died like in LN ?

Guinaur

Yeah this part also left a bad taste in my mouth the first time i read/watched it. Actually touches on my one complaint about Ains as a character. He feels like two completely different characters a lot of the time, and it gives me bad dissonance whenever we hear his internal thoughts. I still think the story would be much better if we never heard his internal monologues 😅

Jazzy Jinx

Yeeeeeah, we're following the villains. This is pretty much the turning point for most people where they finally realize that. >_>

Lost

I just generally love this episode. I do agree a bit with Ainz though, I don't like the idea of inviting people into their home, but it's just such a good option for establishing themselves as a known force. Killing/capturing the intruders to hide any information regarding them being undead, doing it in defense of an invading force, sending the dark elves as messengers, while also fabricating a justification for war. It's such a clever idea

Virtuous_Wanderer

un-fun fact: Archie's sisters fate was... in not too many words... not good. Their parents kept taking up debt, and though they don't appear again, the author did confirm in an interview that they "Probably died in a mine somewhere" implying that they were sold off and got worked to death. Or something along those lines. There are apparently conflicting ideas, and it has been a while but, the fact is that they did end up in a worse situation

Virtuous_Wanderer

Except, everything up until now has pointed to this being a real world just not the one that Ainz is from. He knows that he is killing people, and was even somewhat conflicted about it throughout part of the first season.

karljuliuz

It ain't hypocrisy or cruelty when the world doesn't exist. Ainz is just faking it cuz he know it ain't real. You a real wuss aren't ya lol

karljuliuz

No it hasn't. It is a game world. He knows he is killing NPCs and not real people.

Mannequin

Neila: Are we the baddies?

Ishakuro

It was only a game in the first episode. The author has explicitly stated that the New World is not a game world. Hell, pretty much straight away in the light novel, Ainz thinks "This could never happen in a game" He does NOT think this is a game at all.

Trey

If I rememeber correctly they actaully votd to kill her. However the Author disagreed and made a 2nd ending where she got the slave of Shalltear ending instead.

ChivChav

I get it, i didn't liked that also, i really wished at least her could scape. Tbf, that could even be useful to Nazarick, someone to tell the horror inside there, ig i dont know..

Sage Bastien

i think it's the reverse. The Author wanted to kill her. Therefore, it's why in the LN, he did what he actually wanted

Neila Reacts~

TBH it defnitely does put it finally INSIDE MY BRAIN that yeah these r the vilains

Neila Reacts~

yea, i have sibligns so i was more touched seeing arche struggling. jesus

Neila Reacts~

yeah, i had to take a step back before watching the next ngl

Neila Reacts~

finally someone that actually understands, some people think i m supposed to fully see ainz as a bad guy when he doesnt really go crazy like in his moment.

Neila Reacts~

uhhh it s not a game world tho, others apart from nazarick are not npcs tho

karljuliuz

Well it is. I don't want to spoil things, but it becomes very clear that it is from a certain line.

karljuliuz

No it wasn't. It still is a game world. There's still players in this world and they refer to ingame words all the time, like level 100 and world items. This world is created by a game and is not real. He DOES think this a game all the time as he keeps refering his old memories and friends.

Sage Bastien

if i recall properly, i heard that people were dropping the show, because "omg ainz is evil", but i'm not enterly sure

Skyhark

Yea this was the first time I genuinely disagreed with Ainz, especially not letting the girl go. But I do get why it happened at least since again, Ainz did "test" all of em when he as Momonga, asked them why they were here. Getting the money answer. Ainz has absolutely no empathy or affection for humans anymore, but he still won't just be evil for evil's sake. But when ppl attack or threaten him or what he cares for, like Nazerick, he will never show any mercy.

Ruud

Not to mention that the girl has information he might not like to get out. Sure he can wipe memories, but why use that in the benefit of a girl he does not know and who willingly walked into Nazerick. Also we know the girl had two sisters. But I bet many of the other "Workers" also had families maybe even kids at home. We feel bad primarily for her because we know a little more about her, and admittedly because she's younger.

Dethrox

While i agree Arche deserved better essentially she was in same shoes as every other drived by greed.. she literally could grab a full bag of gold from that first ''crypt'' and leave and they would let her leave..

Lost

New World, as it's referred to, is based on Ygdrassil. Which seems to use an older version of D&D, with Nabe literally using metamagic. The previous NPCs acting on their own, instead of following commands as before, even disobeying Ainz at points. It is not a game world, Albedo alone disproves that theory by multiple times doing things that wasn't allowed in the game, lewd stuff. It's not even SAO, because there's it's still a game at least, Ainz has no hud iirc. He's reminiscing about the past while thinking about his old friends, the fact they use emotes in those memories is another point that proves its not a game world. Even Ainz referring to the duel against Gazef as PvP, not PvE, is yet another point that hints to Ainz at the very least knowing the world is real. Episode one as well pretty much states that it's not a game. Nothing indicates that this is currently a game world

karljuliuz

Doesn't matter. It is a game world created by a game. It is not real. You denying the facts doesn't make it false.

Skyhark

Yea, cause to him, he would spend resources, aka wiping memory, vs gaining resources, aka killing her. He won't do needless violence, but if someone make themselves a target, why would he go out of his way to be nice to them instead of gaining extra resources? And yes, yer last point exactly. They made us care extra much for that team, and especially her building up their story as well as giving us plenty of empathy checks. Similarly how they made us hate the sword asshole with the elf slaves. But to Ainz, sword guy with elf slaves and the poor spellcaster girl who had her cute siblings waiting at home for her, are exactly the same. I still feel bad about the episode, cause again I as a human disagree and hated it lol. But I understand why it happened and it makes sense for what we have seen so far.

Charles Fine

My reaction: "OH so we are the bad guys, for sure" also if you ask what did Nazerick do to them...imagine the worst outcome...and it's worse than that

HellToYou

It is not a game world, they got transported from the game to an actual new world. It's been stated and cleared many times before.

JitterBones

Before I saw this episode for the first time, I had an idea that these kinds of things happened behind the scenes in Nazarick. Monsters (and bugs, can't forget bugs) as a requirement was enough for me to know that they'd use humans for ~A LOT~ of purposes. It's why a lot of the floor guardians and maids think of humans as little more than filth. I do remember this season leaving a bad taste in my mouth after the first watching. But I've rewatched it no less than 3 times.

karljuliuz

It is still a game world based on the actual game, what is it that you don't understand? It is not reality, this has been clearly stated many times

John Smith

That's Kyouhukou, not Gashokukochuuou. They are different entities.

Kirby745i

Oh, my bad, John is 1000% right. I forgot they're different. Kyouhukou is the cockroach. Gashokukochuuou (not shown) is a parasite-type creature.

Crissware

When I watched this episode for the first time, I didn't give a fuck about these characters. When I saw that their characters were being developed over the course of a few episodes, I knew they were going to die, so I didn't get attached to them. I learn that on Season 1 when they killed off Swords of Darkness.

abx2000

My reaction to this was. "You all got treasure at the beginning. You got greedy. Also the girl should of spoke up saying this exactly" Her:No they are here for money. I'm here cause I need money to save my sisters from the current situation. Her saying that prolly would of atleast got her out of there alive. Maybe with money and memories altered.
