Twohearts Off

Sadly the kingdom doesn't know that Ains is a necromancer. The first step to dealing with a necromancer is *not* sending thousands of weak foot soldiers to the frontline, lest they'll be turned into undeadsand added to the army you were fighting. They really suck at intel gathering, pretty sure they were better during the actual Middle-Age without magic lol.

The calm before the storm. Who's ready for a massacre 😵‍💫😵‍💫☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️

27:20 Was commonplace in Medieval Europe to give kids watered down beer. Safer to drink than the water. Climb'll be fine, probably.

Overlord is like super spicy chicken nuggies, 20 s of happiness, 1h of stomach pain

TBF, depending on exactly how old Climb is (my guess being 15-16 maybe), he could technically drink in a lot of European countries with parents, or I think some places are cool with it if they are with a signed-off adult/guardian which Gazef would technically fit the role of. Also, who is gonna tell the Chief Warrior that his friend can't drink? Sounds like a good way to get your establishment put on the banned list so soldiers cant go there anymore (which is a think that happens at least here in the US sometimes)

Virtuous_Wanderer

TBF, Ainz has, for the most part, not shown his hand at all. The only person who has even SEEN Ainz (aside from the people from the Empire) was Gazef, and he only used conventional magic then. He would have no reason to suspect that he is a necromancer, only that he is a powerful magic caster, and that is all that he would be able to report. Sending spied to Nazarik would only result in a loss of spies because, everyone there is able to use some form of detection magic. The best info they could get from that is that Ainz, and his subordinates are basically unable to be spied on because they just "kill" (we know what really happens to people who intrude) all of the spies.

SleepyOldBear

Gotta get them started young. If he's 16 he'll be hitting the hard stuff in Europe

Twohearts Off

Virtuous_Wanderer That's what I mean by being bad at intel gathering. They have no one in Carne village for instance, so if anything happens there they won't know. Gathering intel isn't just about sending spies to where you know your ennemies are, it's also about knowing when something happens in a random place within your territory (or outside). They never know anything, they're just making decisions blindly.

Yeah, Prince Barbaro is a few digits short of an average IQ

You only use your Death Note on chatters on twitch right? I am safe here? Anyway, I promised to explain the annual war, so here goes. The Empire has a professional army of knights, as you have seen. On the other hand, the Kingdom pretty much just give spears and armor to peasant farmers. This means that the empire pretty much has to pay them regardless of what they are doing. So since they are paying the soldiers anyway, the Empire declares war on the Kingdom every year during harvest season. This forces the kingdom to conscript the farmers. And because professional knights are much stronger than farmers, they have to conscript a lot of them. However, in addition to paying the farmers, the harvest season is the busiest time of year for farmers. If they don't harvest the crops in time, the crops they spent the whole year taking care of will rot in the fields. And since they are conscripted for war, they can't harvest it in time. This causes significant expenses to the Kingdom. The Empire army then just looks at the Kingdom army, pretends to attack, immediately retreat and end the war with basically no one dying and nothing happening. The economic damage is done. They don't need to fight. They just go home and repeat the next year. This is one of the reasons the Kingdom is in a relatively bad state at the start of the anime compared to the Empire.

LMAOOO Philotes. ohhh that makes sense, thanks for remembering tbh!!
