Damn, Gojo using domain expansion on Marin was super effective

GIRTH demon

I don't really know about it but i guess watashi is used by women ore is used be men and boku i guess it's used by kids im not 100%sure though

Calistis

At the end of the episode I’m pretty sure both of them were “cooling off”

Freitag

Right before opening play tangia: "i love whinpering men"

dylan pennington

I just asked my friend in Japan. He said the reason for the cameras is probably for safety purposes. Like illegal drugs or domestic violence.

Winters

Well for every other time they hung out, they have been doing something that's helped him focus. Start of the episode feels more spontaneous, so Gojo can't help but really focus on Marin. I think a lot of shy oriented guys in this situation would be suffering the nerves next to a pretty lady.

21:10 I've seen spiders get less of a reaction out of Neila. Impressive lmao.

Yeah... Japanese 1st person pronouns are a confusing mess (and not just for foreigners!). Here is a very basic rundown: Ore - used pretty much exclusively by men in informal situations (or when trying to look tough). If a woman is using "ore", either something is going on or they speak an interesting dialect. Boku - used by young boys (and can actually be used as a way of addressing a young boy). Sometimes used by women to appear innocent and cute. Watashi - formal, used by men and women (the most common 1st person pronoun for women BY FAR) Watakushi - extremely formal, exclusively women Jibun - for the loners (honestly not too sure on this one, like I said, it gets weird ; also used as a normal pronoun in certain circumstances, which makes it even more confusing) And just for fun: Sessha and Soregashi - used by Samurai to talk about themself. Yo - think of this as the "Royal We"; used by nobility Of course, there are all sorts of weird exceptions, so who knows what an anime will do if given half a chance...

Fun story: Back in the day when I was studying abroad in Japan (not going to date myself by saying how long ago that was!), my folks decided they wanted to come over and visit. So, of course, I started looking around for a hotel for them to stay at while they visited. I found a hotel just off of campus and it was insanely cheap, so I went over to take a look at it... Yeah, no way I was going to put my family in there (even if it was only 5000 yen per night). They ended up staying a bit farther away from campus and the hotel cost a bit more, but at least it was a normal hotel!

Some guy

Oh, and to answer your question, you can typically rent a love hotel room by either the hour or night (at a discount). It was seeing the hourly option that actually told me the place I was looking at was a love hotel. (My first thought was, "Oh, neat. They have pictures of what the rooms look like outside the building. And only 5k yen for the night. Wait, why is there an hourly option too... Verdammt."

@ 5:00 Many people have a slight case of claustrophobia. It's understandable that Gojo would be more affected by Marin's proximity in that tiny cubicle.

Roger Powell

Nicely explained. One more addition - Speaking in third person. Young children, who have not mastered the complexity of 1st person pronouns refer to themselves by name. Older girls will sometimes do so to appear cute.

Lightning

u said same thing to romance anime and now look at u enjoinig it so friking mutch) need jsut pick good ones ( slice of life)

Didrik Svahn

This is my favorite episode of season 1 for certain reasons ❤️ Now if I was Gojo I would man up for once and ask for an extension of the time we had in the room. Also yeah I would really loved to have a manga cafe where I live as well

Didrik Svahn

Love hotel change by hours unlike normal hotel. So they could be useful just to rest for a bit. If you are in the middle of the city. Plus the rooms could have more of a theme, like I have even heard there exists a love hotel room that basically is a pool. As well as them being more anonymous than regular hotels.

Matthias Bach

They're just teenagers who like each other. Awkward love is a spice of life.

Twohearts Off

Time to flex my beginner level in Japanese! To refer to yourself, the default is "watashi", it's polite and neutral. You can also use "boku", it's more informal and it's mostly for young adults, it's more of a guy thing but not necessarily (imagine an energetic young adult basically). There are many others, one you hear often in anime is "ore", it's the assertive form. You'll see it used by a Yakuza or a character addressing someone they're trying to impress/intimidate or an enemy. There are also variations to address the person you're talking to (2nd person) such as kimi/omae (kimi is akin to buko, omae is akin to ore in the context it's used). Noticing those sometime help you understand the tone of a character with more nuance since Japanese is basically impossible to translate accurately, despite the efforts put in by the translators. Hope this kinda helped you understand this nuance, Gojo mentions the use of "boku" and "watashi" on a few other occasions in the anime so hopefully my comment will help you appreciate it fully! Edit: btw, the thing that looks like a camera in the hotel room is likely a light. Kinda like a spotlight so you can change the ambiance of the room.

This show is a slice of life. It hits a couple categories

2lazy2username

So today we learned that Neila thrives off of conflict. I am shocked 😲. Also, guys, I just heard the Earth revolves around the sun. Wild, huh?

2lazy2username

Boku is kinda how a boy or young timid man would refer to themselves. If I am remembering properly. I had to learn about the different ways to say "I" to understand one of the jokes in Your Name

Virtuous_Wanderer

As a Manga reader, I feel that it is my duty to point out that Gojo's... pants partner was enlarged for the anime.

cyclobs

'Back massager'.... right.. yeahhh....

EnorIII

"It could be a muscle moving" Yeah... yeah, it could be...

Darth Zayexeet

Never thought a love hotel episode could be so wholesome lmao 😂

IntrepidInfinity

I can tell when Neila is super smiling while watching this because her eyes close a little but on the model at the same time as her smile lmao. This whole anime is super adorable and neila's reactions make it even more so

IntrepidInfinity

14:50 seems someone recognised that funny microphone looking thing hmm. so much recognition it sounded like she almost choked lmao

IntrepidInfinity

I do not remember seeing that the first time I watched this anime lmao. and neila's reaction to it was priceless lmaoooo. you don't need a timestamp you know what I was talking about

Neila Reacts~

i love the anime, it s been helping during days i dont feel good so it s super special rn haha

The Force

From what I understand the only difference between a Love Hotel and a normal Hotel is basically that you can rent a Love Hotel by the hour instead of needing to do a whole day, and obviously it's aimed at a slightly different audience. There's nothing saying you *can't* use a love hotel as just a normal hotel though

Ricky Picky Ricky

20:19 As his grandpa said: "He is at that age..."

Ricky Picky Ricky

I believe that Marin knew what she called "a massager" is, since she concludes saying that they are definitely in a love hotel.

Ricky Picky Ricky

24:41 Am I wrong or this is the first time that Gojo takes some initiative and propose something?

Ricky Picky Ricky

29:10 Welcome to E11.... 31:04 Fine point here: Gojo loosens (slightly) his grip, but at the same time he pulls Kitagawa toward him. 32:52 The woman here looks like (IMHO) a mature version of Kitagawa 33:05 I wouldn't call them "relaxed"... Kudos to the animators for creating a scene that has more sexual tension than some adult movie with real actors. The surprised expression of Marin, the slow relaxing, no sound but moaning in the background and the breathing, ... just great.

gruntmaster1

For other good romance/comedy, "kaguya sama love is war" is a very popular one. 31:25 You sound disappointed xD Don't worry, you're not the only one. Edit: Ah, just saw Kaguya-sama in the collection, I guess it was too rom-com?

Sousuke Segarl

Ore/Jibun/watakushi etc. is only used in anime or manga. Real life conversation use watashi
