"Of course I'm right. If I'm not, may we all be horribly crushed from above somehow." - Homer J. Simpson

When a prank backfires and Bart is forced into Skinner servitude, he discovers a force more destructive than him: a comet headed right towards Springfield. Can the citizens survive this calamity with their never-give-up and never-think-things-out spirit, or are they doomed to become charred corpses outside the remnants of Moe's Tavern?

I'm committing the biggest podcast listener sin here and commenting without finishing the episode, but I just want everyone to know that Mitch's new movie The Napa Boys is available for free on Kanopy, the public library streaming service. Even if I didn't have a parasocial relationship with him I would think that it's the funniest movie of the 2020s. It's like what if David Wain and David Mirkin made a movie together and it starred Mitch! Required viewing! Also "Goodbye Cosmos! ...bye bye..." is one of those random lines that lives in my head. The super friends are very sweet, it makes sense that Database, the most assertive member was the breakout.

It’s not my favorite episode (Summer of 4’2) but it is probably the funniest of the entire series

my gripe about Waldo/Wally is that his archnemesis is named Odlaw, which is Waldo backwards! It does not make sense that he'd have that name in the UK version! Odlaw is the reverse of Waldo, both in name and design, so explain yourselves UK listeners!

I remember listening to the first time they did this episode like 8 years ago and they accidentally uploaded Moe’s animal sound instead of the podcast episode lmao

If you look at the storyboard for the full crowd bunker scene, you’ll see I put Mr Spock up in the top. I figured they’d take him out if they wanted to.

If this episode has a failing, it's that the astronomy is pretty poor. IF it has a failing. The comet Bart discovers wouldn't be called the Bart Simpson comet. As with the mentioned Schumacher-Levy 9 and Hale-Bop comets, astronomy rules at the time typically dictated a newly discovered comet (or set of comets) got named after first two or three people to discover/confirm it. So it really should be the Simpson -[Warren's last name and possibly unnamed lady astronomers last name] comet. Though since about the mid to late 90s, with larger, better, and more telescopes with entire teams disecting the data, comets are now named after an agreed upon system of letters and numbers, taking all the magic out of it. And beyond that there's the error that a comet being in plain view in daylight directly above Springfield seemingly a day after it was first discovered couldn't possibly still be in line to strike Springfield a day or two later. It probably wouldn't even hit the earth at all due to earths rotation, orbit around the sun, and the comet's own orbit.

It's not like I needed to realize this before, but hearing audio-only of both Skinner and Flanders in this ep....DAMN Harry Shearer is good.

I don’t really buy the “feels” you describe. The jokes are too jam-packed here to ever take it too seriously. I also realized years ago Hank Azaria is hands down the best of the voice actors (Shearer is a close second if he wasn’t such a stick in the mud), and that this is one of the testaments to his brilliance.

It's funny, we all know this is a great episode, but I think I've realized this is a top 10 episode for me
