A good pre marriage Homer and Marge episode was Dangerous Curves from season 20.

The scoring table used in the episode is using overhead projection as mentioned. It looks like something similar to a Brunswick Telescore. You can see the Telescore and all of its features in this 1960’s Brunswick promotional video around the 4:30 mark. https://archive.org/details/GoldenYe1960

Wow high class Henry on this episode too good for PB &J at work. I'm a man in his 30s who very much enjoys PB &J in my lunch.

While this episode has its "issues", a little too flippant re: infidelity here. It isn't an easy decision - the opportunity might just present itself as quick as it does to Marge, who contemplates it out of spite, lust, and neglect but ultimately decides that’s no justification. Is Homer a neglectful, selfish idiot? Yes. But he still sincerely loves his wife and kids - that's why at his best he's an endearing character, and why Marge at her best is an admirable, tragic character. We also see this theme of Marge putting her family’s needs above any personal desires much later in "Scenes from the Class Struggle in Springfield", done better since it’s a woman director-writer combo. I love this characterization of Marge and think it’s shameful they barely scratched the surface, since it’s writing gold: what IS it like being in love with Homer Simpson? (And not going for the cheap “fixer-upper” jokes constantly.) “Krusty Gets Busted” is the overall best of S1, but “Life on the Fast Lane” is easily the richest character-wise.

I think of all the s1 episodes we've revisited so far, this might be my favourite yet. Albert Brooks is stellar as hell here and it kind of feels the most Simpsony to me - tackling a real issue but throwing in weird zany stuff to not come across like a typical sitcom. Also, Jacque's description of brunch is one of the bits that have stuck with me the most from this season.

Hey all, its been a long time since I've commented, used to be more frequent. Life happened. Anyway, I am back with some later season information that may help clarify the "homer is my balls name" conversation. In season 21 episode 12 Boy Meets Curl (the curling episode https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boy_Meets_Curl) marge reveals her self to be left handed. Looking backwards, if we wanted, we could assume marge bowls left handed, thus likely she would not have been wearing her wedding ring. This may suggest that marge was intentionally choosing to delay acknowledge being married, knowing she wasnt wearing her ring, to see where things went with Jaque. But who can blame her, Im with henry, she playing with house money at this point. Stay safe guiys.

I'm usually not big on pancakes Except for the hot cake house... The pancakes are a little salty and it makes a world of difference

Do you want a real age trip? Watch old shows from the 60s, like the twilight zone for example Character has a family and the way he presents himself im like oh he's probably late 30s early 40s. Nope character is 25... Oh the actor must be old then look up the actor They're also around 25...

If you guys haven't seen, there's an entire episode of Scott Gairdner's Moonbeam City about those goofy-ass 3D Strike cartoons. It's perfect. Hey Bob, yes Camelot Lanes is STILL open! It's most likely untouched from when you were last there. I've never been, but my wife had gone a couple times growing up. Btw, they're building a Sheetz across from the Southern Park Mall, which is also getting a complete overhaul to hopefully make it less depressing. Although, it seems like they're doing one of those "lifestyle center" deals with it. Also for Merritt, interesting Youngstown/Brooklyn connection. The merry-go-round at Brooklyn Bridge Park is from Youngstown's defunct Idora Park. Regarding Lenny and Carl, they currently aren't dating each other, they are dating each others' sisters who look exactly like them. They first made the joke in a Season 23 episode but out of nowhere kept the gag going in Season 31's "Gorillas on the Mast". Carl's sister, Carlotta, in her most recent appearance is voiced by Dawnn Lewis (now a recent recurring VA on the show) from Futurama. Also, *pushes up my glasses* it's the Winfields, not the Winchells.

Henry, buddy, you need to brush-up on your late 80s early 90s sitcoms. Peg Bundy is a poor example of the wife who dislikes sex with her husband as she is often the opposite and it's Al who wants nothing to do with her. And Danny Tanner had a girlfriend for much of Full House, Vicki, though they would write her off a bunch by having her job relocate. I'm pretty sure she moves back to San Francisco for the finale though so he can have his happy ending. PB&J is a relatable for lunch for me, a dad, because you end up always keeping stock of the things your kids eat. My daughter is a routine eater and has a PB&J for lunch 6 if not 7 days a week so we always have it. When we run out of cold cuts or don't have transportable leftovers, I'll resort to PB&J. It was also a staple lunch for me as an adult before kids when I was just doing whatever I could to save money in order to get out of the rental situation. I think you guys are a bit too hard on the ending of this episode. I understand wanting to see more from Marge and wanting Homer to pay for his crappy present, but it also feels like a realistic portrayal of the various arguments and fights that crop up in a marriage. Sometimes a partner does something wrong, and you either move on or let it fester. Marge tests the waters, but ultimately sides with familiarity. She knows her husband is a flawed man, but she also knows he does love her. The images she sees on her way to Jacques' apartment plays to her religious background and the selflessness of her character as she vowed to love her husband till death, and when presented with an opportunity to upend that she decides against it. I don't think it needs more explanation, but I do agree it feels like a male-written trope to have the wife be the noble and selfless partner while the male gets to screw up a lot and still retain his wife. And because I am on Team Homer and Marge Have a Great Sex Life, I will defend Homer's ten minute declaration. If he were heading off to the bedroom or even a motel with the goal of lasting ten minutes, then yes that is not something to be proud of. When heading to the car in a parking lot at work though that's "quickie" territory and ten minutes feels right. Hopefully they utilized Marge's station wagon instead of Homer's sedan as that is the only time a station wagon feels like a good choice.

OK, I know that Merritt has guested on Talking Simpsons a couple of times before, but given the abuse allegations about her that surfaced on Twitter since her last appearance, I was kind of alarmed to see her name pop up here. And this was before I learned that she doesn't have Simpsons Season 1 DVDs easily accessible to her at all times, which, come on, is just inherently suspicious.

Just wanted to say that I've been enjoying your guys' journey revisiting Season 1! It goes without saying that this redux has been way more informative compared to the first time you covered these episodes, so much that I was wondering if you have any plans to revisit any of the other past seasons you've covered, or at least other episodes of the show that you feel like you could have explored in more detail? Keep up the good work!!

I looked up Tony Roma's onion loaf and it doesn't look that bad to me? It reminds me of "kakiage" tempura, but with onions. I would totally eat that, but then I also love Bloomin' Onions (not the biggest onion ring fan for some reason -- unless they're from A&W).

I had a younger cousin ask me what Homer and Marge did in the backseat of their car when we saw this episode in syndication. Being 13 and not wanting to explain sex to a 9 year old, I just shrugged my shoulders. (This was before even dialup Internet was widely available). I'm curious what Henry, Bob, and others thought when they originally saw this episode.
