I wrote this song pair to capture the feeling of late winter 2025 thawing into spring.

Recorded and produced using Audacity, featuring viola, melodica, voice, guitar, some leftover stale crackers, a large body of water, and a triangle.

This is the kind of thing that in the old era would have gone on my old 2nd channel, but now it's time to figure out the new era I guess. So it's on vimeo and also there's also an mp3 attached to this post.

A bit of trivia: the melodica I use in this recording was a gift from Patreon co-founder and CEO Jack Conte, many years ago. Thanks Jack! (Other fun fact: a lot of the recording equipment I still use was gifts from patrons years ago, and I do think of y'all whenever I use it.)

General Updates

In video archive news: I plan to make a bigger update once I've got everything up on Vimeo, but I've got most old videos up now and even sorted into different collections for easier navigation: https://vimeo.com/vihart/albums/sort:date/format:thumbnail

And for those of you who have gotten used to me pausing payments, they are finally unpaused so expect that to go through on May 1. This is also a heads-up for those who just joined but haven't been charged, that my patreon charges at the beginning of each month rather than when you joined.

Spring Thoughts

My favorite season used to be autumn. I might be turning into a spring person. I'm tempted to try to articulate how I feel about spring using words, but words aren't really my art so I did music to it instead.

If it's spring for you too right now, I hope you take the time to feel spring things. If you don't have spring feelings of your own, you can always borrow mine.

I've been collecting spring music, drinking green tea (sometimes matcha), attempting to engage with the emotion of hope, smelling flowers, growing friendships, and trying to spend at least a millisecond outdoors every day or two.

"expect that to go through on March 1" — umm, maybe May?

I've been getting more and more into gardening and it's turning me into a spring person :) Watching the plants change so much day by day is incredible!

The Crack How long will I be hibernating Spring can’t touch me here The sun can’t force its way inside Without the crack Oh I almost thought I felt The sun can’t force its way inside Without the crack To freeze and thaw Dawn Breaks Every Day I watch you make your escape I’ll let you go I know if I wait A new dawn will break I wish that I were the sky Too vast to own I’m open wide I break every day

Vi is aging backwards, getting younger by the month. Side effect, they have to go through winter. Again.

Jeepers I was not expecting the stereo. Very good with headphones.

Very nice, I especially like the multiple voices in the first one... sort of reminiscent of a greek chorus.

Beautiful. Feels like remembering a timeless time when I was infinite and unaware.
