I have started work on Book 2 of Doomsday Pivot!, so in theory will have regular chapters, which will be singlet releases, once the first book is complete. I'm separately writing the final chapter of the next AGARES batch.

I wonder if he can coat himself and then make himself invisible, or if it would only make the coating invisible. (Edit: oh I remember now, he tested that in an earlier chapter, invisible minions carrying stuff looked like the stuff was floating around. Probably an ability locked behind a future upgrade.)

"given that Sentinel wasn’t as powerful as I had been hoping it would be" I don't understand why he keeps complaing about Shadow Sentinal, when it's obviously an amazing skill, which improves the usefulness of his minions by ~ a million percent.

I'm excited you're starting on book 2! Looking forward to more of this story.

This has been my confusion. Shadow sentinel is everything he wanted and more.

Skitterdidnothingwrong

It’s so OP Right now he’s able to scout a path through an enemy city and keep an eye on all the guards with invisible soldiers. At higher levels this skill is going to be even more insane

your username gives dragons PTSD. yeah i think my biggest gripe with the book its this rational agent somehow miss valuing the shadow sentinel skill adn constantly complaining about it. give how analytical they are in every other aspect of the book this sticks out as a cognitive dissonance that i cant reconcile without assuming its somehow a character flaw.

AW, doomsday pivot is excellent. i struggled initially with thresholder. loved tutbad but it was slower by design. this feels like it has the immediacy of WTC but with a fresh setting and purpose. I see the elements of tutbad and thresholder that can be applied here and it looks like its already better than the sum of its parts, at least for my reading experience. I hope its as much fun for you to write as it is to read.

I think he is focusing on the opportunity cost of losing the choices he could have made. He wanted the skill to turn the minions into actual sentinels with combat potential, and he got eyes basically. He is understandably focused on combat potential because, up until this point, he has not been in a ton of situations where direct combat potential is not the main deciding factor. I also think that we might be overestimating it's prior usefulness before the new perk since we've just seen him use a minion swarm in the first stealth situation that has occurred in the story up to this point. Keep in mind, before this he could only really see through maybe two minions at once for the most part if he wanted to give up his ability to focus on combat. Now he can see through all his subdivided minions at once while also being able to focus on himself. Imagine him trying to stealth through a city without that. Before the upgrade, he was basically limited to checking up on minion progress and scouting ahead safely, which is good, but not OP. It would be more opportuinty-cost effective to be able to buff himself to go on stealth missions in a slightly less safe manor since those skills would also come with direct or indirect combat potential that pre-buff Sentinel did not have. So in other words, no u

Nat just hasn’t read the briefing material. “Insect control? What a weak joke of a superpower!”

Skitterdidnothingwrong

Even before the new perk it dramatically increased his combat potential since it gave him long range telepathic control of them. Sentinel lets them act as long range assassins. Give the cute little guys a razor blade or grenade (/doomsday system equivalent) and send them out to take out high value targets. Multitasking just makes it ridiculous and eventually he’ll be able to spy on and strike across an entire sector. Thinking about it, why didn’t his class have the warning “can violate privacy” what would it take to get that warning if not a bunch of invisible mobile drones?

Kai

I suspect that "can violate privacy" is for things like mind reading.

You mentioned this in the last batch release, and I wanted to concur that AI-as-editor has gotten so much better in a short timeframe that it's becoming less and less useful to fine-tooth comb as a human. There's some other works I get early-draft access to help proof before public release, and while there's still plenty to critique about tone, plot structure, etc, it's become quite difficult to catch out-and-out typos in late 2026. The ones that do exist wouldn't have gotten caught by old-fashioned technically-correct SpellCheck, it's all things like inconsistent Oxford commas, or not-strictly-necessary-but-improves-comprehension word additions. A bitter lesson indeed, for someone who prided herself on being an excellent editor. Good that Nat is less morally compromised than Perry, it'd be upsetting if he went all murderhobo-thief at the drop of a hat. Although the appearance of, uh, let's round it to Fallatehr Whiteshell is certainly troubling, this clearly isn't a conflict that diplomacy will resolve. I am sad that he didn't think of the hand pun though, a troll game would totally have "Digital" just give his Sentinels hands. I keep wondering about the Charlotte-guildless thing, whether that'll pay off at some point in the future, or it's just a strictly suboptimal choice, which you don't see much of in game design. Maybe they're actually all heaven-banned and talking to bots, it's not like any of the protags has actually met one of their fellow supposed guildmembers in the flesh to confirm they really exist. (I think?)

Kai

Yes, I'm really happy to see that Nat seems to be a guy, who aspires to make the world a better place!
