A.M.

I would love to see a sub brief about a modern German sub. Heard they are pretty quiet.

Jure Zavrnik

Do the Sava please! :) Did you have any experience with them? Did you ever stumble on them while on patrol?

IceMike

Russian subs in general intrigue me

Erik Kostiainen

Id like to hear about the Gotland, the pride of the Swedish navy. But from a more unbiased source

Jesse K.

GUPPY + PUFFS would be interesting for a historical sub brief.

Robert

Why so many votes for the Gotland? We _just_ had a briefing on the Collins, and that's literally the same boat.

Chronus

Oh really? My vote was inspired by the Gotland 'sinking' a CVN during wargames.

IceMike

Why not both Gotland AND the victor :P

Alexander

Strictly speaking the communalities are only externally, the two Classes are completely different. Starting with the Armament to the Propulsion (Gotland AIP with Stirling engine, Collins conventional diesel electric AIP planned but cancelled) and most importantly the Sonarsystem. The Gotland has the CSU 90 and the Collins a mix of French and Domestic stuff held together by an US Combat Management System. So not at all the same Boat and as Jive said my utmost respect to the Australian Sailors who made so much out of so little. The Collins is a perfect example on how much the People in charge can mess up something and the Man and Women in Service still make it happen.

Alexander

@Chronus the German Navy did also sink the USS Enterprise (only simulated of course) with a Class 206A a 500 ton Boat, U24 if I remember correctly.

Robert

Ah interesting. I thought the Gotland was basically just a shrunk-down version of the Collins.

Aaron Amick

Really good info, Alex. I should add you to the research team.

Alexander

Oh Jive, thanks a lot! I don't think I can keep up with a Pro like you! But if You ever going to do something a about the German armed forces especially Armor and medical corps or the German U-Boats in WWII I am YOUR MAN a.vatter-riemke@arcor.de P.s. Hope Dorian didn't' affect you too much, aren't you down there in Florida?! Be safe Alex

I don't know if this is the right place to ask but can you also start a subscribestar account. I don't like supporting patreon which very anti free speech. Also If you want more views you should do a setup tour, and maybe in the future a sim setup guide.

Adrian Johansson

The collins is an enlarged Västergötland class sub design wise (the class preceeding the Gotland). The Gotland is an evolution of the Västergötland but with the AIP lessons from the HMS Näcken implemented. HMS Näcken the lead of her class got an AIP hull extension in 1988 and was a test bed for the Gotland class. She also briefly served in the Danish navy before they got rid of Subs alltogether.

If I get enough request for a Subscribe Star account, I will make one. Right now, it just doesn't make economic sense to add a 4th website to my workload.

Alexander

Hallo Adrian, thanks for clarification, you are completely right. I didn't pointed that out because, in my humble opinion the main concern had been the varying systems and how they were implemented. I would put the Hull-construction issue second. Any way thank you for you reply Alex

Be careful with Subscribe Star it might get you banned from PayPal. Seriously

Aaron Amick

No matter what happens, I am staying on Patreon. Subscribe star would only be for people who don't use Patreon. I have no incentive to change the way things are now.
