I love Familiar (the song) so much, and how Steven realise that Pink and him aren't really different, but his entourage are. The crystal gems and Greg accepted him, listened to him and let him grow to be who he is, while Blue, Yellow and especially White didn't. I mean, they give Pink a colony just so they didn't have to hear her saying she want one again and again and the only reason she wanted one, was to feel closer to Yellow... But now, Steven have so much experience with "a strugling family" like he say in the song.

Just a fun fact for anyone because I know she won’t see but- in Rebecca sugars art book she explains that the diamonds are based on or represent Id, Ego, and Super ego based Freud’s theory of the psyche. Something really cool to look into because like she said, Pinks legs are a larger part of the body and I think that is really cool when you know she’s the ID (representing want and instinct). There’s a really good YouTube video about it I remember watching but I can’t find it anymore

They knew exactly what they were doing when they drew this. 17:22 - I'd be worried that Garnet deliberately stressed that "STEVEN will be fine." 21:57 - Not that we'd have known at the time, but we did briefly see White's ship before in "The Trial" when Steven and Lars escaped in the palanquin. 23:03 - There are some fun edits where people put GLaDOS voice lines over White Diamond footage. While the voices are similar, White was voiced by Christine Ebersole, while GLaDOS was voiced by Ellen McLain. 28:45 - Ha, that's a pun. Because of her ship, she's literally inside her own head. 29:15 - It's the Uncanny Valley. Gems in general, and the Diamonds especially, look and act a lot like humans, but there are little things here and there that show how differently they think from humans and just how literally alien they are. 33:40 - Yeah, it pretty much is a trans allegory. 37:09 - The Pebbles are a reference to Cinderella's mice. Since they can turn their arms into tools and make things, one of the DVD special features refers to them as "the Bismice".

I never knew about the reason for the rushed ending of this season, but when it first aired I definitely felt the diamond resolution was way too fast and not really satisfying. Makes me feel a bit better knowing the context, that this wasn't the intended pace. Still a bummer we didn't get this arc fully developed.

I really love the sudden switch with the Diamonds. All the sci-fi "evil galaxy conquerers" being dropped immediately when they find out Steven is Pink, and switching straight to "older sisters glad their younger sister is back and acting like a family" is so funny. Also I LOVE Familiar, such a good song.

pink diamond is more powerful than blue and yellow but her status is under them given her size and age. but pink alone was able to trick all of the diamonds and win a war against them.. so the power scale would be white> pink> yellow/blue ( they are pretty equal, yellow is just physically stronger but blue is mentally stronger)

Given everything that happened behind the scenes the Diamond Days arc (ep 24-28) wrapped up surprisingly well (rushed for obvious reasons, but it flown together relatively nice) - and than the Movie and Future just put that nice little bow at the top... It went out with a bang for sure I say that much (for now)

Not the budget, the paceing (how cramped and rushed it felt) that took a massive hit thanks to the cancellation, but (luckely) plot points meant to be explored in the OG run got moved to the Movie and Future.

I think you didn’t exactly understand the song fully The point was to show how things have come full circle. It’s “familiar” Steven’s authority figures still see him as him mom Despite being one of them, they don’t see him as the same And he ends up being the mediator when things go south But, as Steven said “But this time I’ve had some practice at helping a struggling family”. He knows what he’s doing this time Tbh, not sure if it’s the mandella effect, but I could have sworn it showed parallels in the scene during the song. Like when that giant door opened, it then shows a scene from season 1 where Steven witnesses the temple door opening

That first meeting with white shows just how different she is from yellow and blue. She treated steven like a little kid, didn't let him say anything, cut him off anytime he spoke, and then sent him to his room. She's like the toxic mother of the other diamonds. "I know what's best I speak you listen" kind of behavior.

This is the song that always makes me emotional. You can see the pressure-cooker of all of Steven's anxieties about living up to this mother he never knew. All those times Pearl wonders if Rose is still inside Steven somewhere, all the enemies that treat Steven as if he is his mother.. he's been having Pink's memories in his dreams and that's confusing! The Diamonds treat him as if he's Pink in a new form, and she'd already run away from her responsibilities to a new identity once... "Why is it so familiar?" What if they're right? What if Rose was just running off to a new identity again because she was bored? What if Steven was never real?!! Talk about an existential crisis! But no... he recognises the situation of wanting to be seen as an equal to much older family members, being treated like a child because you still are a child, not realising the dysfunctional nature and problems your parental/sibling figures have - he's lived it, but with a much more loving family and support (MVP Greg Universe) "THAT'S why it's so familiar!" The relief! but also knowing the hard work it takes. He believes he can do it! And THAT is the turning point and the character growth that was building for quite a while.

I think we as a fandom forget that Escapism had a LOT of hype leading up to its release, which ultimately ended in a huge let down when we saw it was a Watermelon Steven episode. Some rumors even mentioned Blue would sing to Steven and Connie and she would help them break out. Let's not act like some of us dont skip this episode just to get to the Finale. Cut Mosco a break

As a trans person myself, yes, how the Diamonds and their Pearls act towards Steven is very analogous to the trans experience of misgendering and deadnaming. Which makes perfect sense, as before these final episodes aired, Rebecca Sugar had come out as nonbinary and used they/them and she/her pronouns. This also isn't the first time in the series that this kind of thing has popped up either. Even from Season 1 onwards, how Jasper reacts to Steven is very reminiscent of this scene. She immediately starts calling him "Rose" and shows disgust for him looking like that and not for looking like Rose. Can't wait until the Change Your Mind reaction
