Volume 2!!! Volume 2 finally fixes the little shadow person quirk haha. Volume 2 is also just. Really really funny. Lots of good jokes in it. Excited for this reaction and the ones after.

jessie H

Cinders voice is just So appealing! Mercury’s name is more for the color I believe. All their names have something to do with a color.

Magikltrevr

This week's fun fact: Today happens to be the 12 year anniversary of the first showing of Volume 1 Episode 1 at RTX 2013

Ryan

Yes, yes it is what we pay for. Full. Uncut. Raw. Disaster. We will see Tuk in volume five when he comes to avenge his son's death. You won't realize it's him because Tukson's father is pint sized. According to Elijah, you and Cinder have the same eye color. Do with this information what you will. Damn girl, sounds like you can type 60+ WPM. We millenials got lucky. We actually learned to type with both hands on full sized clacky keyboards. What, no? No, the dutch angle over the shoulder shot is not two-shadowing. Not at all. But your enthusiasm about cinematography makes me wonder what the camera angles for Project TEA will be like.

Neil Marshall

the leeks as swords thing was a bit farfetched

Wildgameseeker1

This volume was when funding got trasfered to improve the work

Luís Pacheco

Kicking off the volume with a Yang

BeastialMoon

"That's the moment that did it, huh? 'Don't think, Obey'?" Ohhhh yeah. It was extremely funny. Definitely go and watch your girlfriend's reaction to that ep/moment when you can, it's hilarious.

BGTitan

Episode 1: Introducing Mercury and Emerald! The best food fight in the history of ever. Epic and completely ridiculous but also just a fun way to get back into a volume of RWBY. In universe the explanation of how the food weapons mostly stay in tact is because the characters can extend their aura to their weapons. So they're protected too. Glynda's semblance of telekinesis coming in big time handy for that clean up. And as you pointed out, the Shadow People are indeed no more. They actually had the budget to animate the background characters! Let's go for production quality improvements! My favorite, very missable detail, is that the Best Day Ever Activities binder also has Property of Weiss Schnee crossed out in red. It's a shame that the files you and Elijah have don't have the OP and the credits for this season. V2's OP was my favorite for so long. Episode 2: I love the subtle bit of world building with the board game. To clarify something, JNPR was told by Blake and them that she was a Faunus. The only reason Pyrrha stopped Jaune was because they were in the public library at school according to a commentary by the crew. “I love it when you’re feisty.” Cuties. Ruby really does have some of the best little one liners. Our group of infiltrators are only supposed to be a couple years older than WBY. And Beacon functions more like a four year college that takes people ages 17/18-21/22. So it’s plausible for Cinder and crew to be students.

LucidDreamWolf88

It would be soo cool to see you and Elijah react to each others reactions of the series lol

CrowOfAFeather

Another stellar reaction! :D I wish someone could let Mosco and Elijah know that after Volume 3 there are the World of Remnant episodes that are really short, but informative about things like Aura, Dust, and more that I think they'd enjoy. :)

Christopher Malone

The silver eyes mean absolutely nothing and do not involve a prophecy to reforge the moon and thus seal the grim away for all time and thus usher in a new age of peace for the world... they are just a plain, simple red herring and Cinder is not secretly Ruby and Yang's evil older sister bent on stopping said prophecy, nope nothing of the sort is going on

Luís Pacheco

It's a shame these uploads of the episodes don't have the Volume 2 intro. It's honestly one of my favourite ops.

BrightHeart

The X-Ray and Vav Comic is related to another Cartoon that Rooster Teeth made.

pneuma163

Mosco, please keep being an animation nerd. Indulge, enjoy. Also I'm delighted that she pinned the precise moment that Cinder broke Elijah.

pneuma163

Characters in RWBY can imbue their weapons with their aura to enhance the weapons' abilities. If said weapons happen to be an oversized leek, no matter.

Dre

Oh huh. There’s already a noticeable improvement in the storytelling between volumes 1 and 2. Everything seems more deliberate (as Mosco pointed out with the camera angles when Oz was talking to Blake). ALSO. Mosco trying to hide her little crush on Emerald was funny. Almost as funny as her seeing more of Cinder and going, “I… can see the appeal. I can see why my girlfriend likes you.”

Wil DeYoung

So what's interesting is everyone's weapon in the show has a name, though only Ruby's is ever said aloud so I'll give a brief list of the ones I know for sure. Ruby - Crescent Rose Weiss - Myternaster Blake - Gambol Shroud Yang - Ember Celica Jaune - Crocea Mors Pyrrha - Milo and Akuo Nora - Magnhilde Ren - Stormflower Sun - Ryu Bang and Jingu Bang Neptune - Tri-hard Glynda - The Disciplinarian James Ironwood - Due Process

Magikltrevr

If you aren't aware, they were making a Pokemon joke. The Pokemon Farfetchd uses a leek as a weapon.

Eme

Welcome to Vol 2

pneuma163

Oh that's very neat - that bit of it had gone over my head and makes Neil's comment far better than my reply's assumption (though my comment is still true)

Eric Smith

Careful with the spoilers for volume 9 lol (one other weapon name finally gets said)

Wil DeYoung

Ig shout. I should take that one out. I forgot about that one.

Eric Smith

Trailer-era Whiterose fan content is so funny in retrospect. People were not ready for Weiss' actual personality 🤣

Adrian ruiz martinez

i actually found some fan comics of that time, and is so fucking weird lol

Eric Smith

Fun fact, they were going to be cucumbers (which you can see on the table when Ren grabs the leeks), but they swapped them out for leeks when they realized the cucumbers looked like dildos

Eric Smith

He does have relevant shoes though. It's a combination of the color and the Roman name for Hermes

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

"Tukson" is the kind of name you get when the creators discover they'd been mispronouncing "Tucson" ("TOO-sahn") this whole time and don't want to have to re-record the dialogue.

Rachel Mae

"but right now they're still children, so why not let them play the part? After all it isn't a role they'll have forever" *cuts to our two new kids who just did a murder* "ask yourself this: do you really think your children can win a war?" "I hope they never have to" *cuts to team rwby playing a strategy war tabletop game* crwby was really being as subtle as a brick with the message/symbolism here lol

Angelus Lupus

Glad to know the patreon support here will also help Project TEA - I was hoping that was the case!

Rob Bob

Reminder, world of Remnant exists. It may explain to you how they can stick food in the concrete during the food fight. Don't worry it's not spoilery. It's just giving you a base understanding of key concepts that they don't do a good job of explaining in the show like what is aura, dust or the Grimm.

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

Wait, WTF is with the lack of opening song? Is it not on your copy of the chapters? Volume 2 has the best OP in the series, you can't let it pass you by!!

Special K

That is indeed a fun fact! 🤣😂🤣😂

Nugby

Thank you for this amazing news, you just made my day!

Phoenix_mercury

Its the same as Elijah's, theirs no op's

Phoenix_mercury

Name plus allusion(mercury Roman version of Hermes, plus his shoes Talaria)

Vex Valor

I hope Mosco can at least react to the full volume 2 opening later. I know her file is missing the openings and endings since she is probably using the same ones Elijah used. Actually Mercury and Neptune are named after planets because they are Sailor Senshis sent to Earth to find and protect Sailor Moon.

Lee Goldberg

Love how Elijah also thought Neptune was connected to Mercury because she didn't know/consider the fact that Mercury is also a color.

Arashi

While there is something to the names, (nearly) everyone's name is based on/around a color or the impression of one. Mercury is not (directly) based on the planet/god, rather the element mercury/quicksilver and while Neptune is based on the god (don't ask how they know it though) it's based on the ocean, which is thought of as blue. You apparently missed that Mercury was touching a panel next to the door as the window's darkened. No special ability there, just a window dimmer switch. ;) Fun to see you so scattered on prepping for the recording.

Symbolic Remnant

Number 1 ADHD dream is being able to clean as easily as Glynda. Also, clocking exactly when Elijah would break was amazing.

Phoenix_mercury

just an fyi merc is the roman vers of hermes, his weapon/boots are even called talaria, but yes also the colour

Sam Walsh

Fun fact for all the volumes the opening theme is at the end of every first episode then is put at the begging of each episode to follow because some of the scenes they throw in the intro are in the 1st episode so it's to avoid spoiling.

Jason S

47:25 Monty (the creator of RWBY) was extremely detail oriented and would carefully study various different types of media. I wouldn't know if those are conscience directorial choices, but I would be surprised if they weren't.

Dre

To be fair they spell crow with a q instead of a c in this show lol. It’s on brand.

Konrad Dunbar

emerald opening her arms expecting a hug from cinder is one of my favorite little character moments between, actually that whole scene is very informative of how their relationship is!

Fred Smith

Volume 10 just got announced!

Jason S

I'm going to guess that we won't see it until 2027. This isn't a complaint. I just think that's a reasonable amount of time for the production. Rooster Teeth's yearly release schedule was completely unsustainable, and lead to the burn-out of a number of animators.

Jittercritter

Here after the news that Volume 10 is in production, I’m feeling fantastic anyone else?!

Jittercritter

While the food fight is mostly just silly shenanigans and a way to show off the improved fighting animation without having an actual high stakes fight in chapter 1, it also does something legitimately important for the worldbuilding; emphasizing that huntsmen and huntresses channel their aura into their equipment. This is something Pyrrha mentioned in her conversation with Jaune during initiation, and here we get to see it in action. Obviously it’s more effective with items that are ACTUALLY strong/dangerous, but anything can be used as a weapon provided the person wielding it has enough aura. This is presumably why their outfits rarely rip as well. Speaking of which, not everyone wears armor since aura is the main kind of armor people rely on in this world. Obviously Emerald would be screwed if her aura broke, but as long as it’s up she’s okay even in that outfit lol

Jayy

Gotta thank the comments for letting me know about the Volume 10 announcement! I almost missed it lol.

Wildgameseeker1

Nora reminds me of you and it's not just the hair color

Eric Smith

The openings were usually released separately just prior to a volume starting as part of the hype cycle. There is one notable exception to this, because oh boy does that particular opening have spoilers for the first chapter of its volume.

Eric Smith

The foreshadowing with the moon being broken is crazy lol. It's a fun plot when the show finally gets there

Eric Smith

I think its absence would be more conspicuous, I'd say leave it

Luna

Me, a trans lady with body image issues: *would totally wear emerald’s fit if I had the body to pull it off*

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

After this volume, you can watch the first few World of Remnant videos...they are about 5 minutes long. They are tutorials about things such as the kingdom, the schools, Aura&semblance, dust and more....just watch the ones that are for volume 2....if you watch the ones from volume 3 you would get spoiled...once you finish volume 3 you can watch all of them.

LikeCat

And if you do, please convence your lovely girlfriend to watch it too. It is so ,,annoying" (not in a bad way, just that it ticks me - and as I've seen many others - the wrong way that she did not watched that). It is VERY important worldbuilding that she is missing... not because she missed stuff in the show (tbf it was very mienderely explained), but because it was explain out side the show.

Tigerhawk

I know you said you were going to follow the episode pattern Elijah did however I (and I know many fans would agree) recommend watching the World Of Remnant shorts as well. They help explain and expand the viewers knowledge of things in the show. Such as Dust which I've noticed you asking a lot about what Dust is.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

True, she is still confused about some of this stuff through 5 volumes so far

Stephen Mumford

This is for the Mods, as know Mosco isn't watching the comments any more here due to the threat of potential spoilers: as others have mentioned here, watching the World of Remnant shorts would be advised. I don't recall the specific timeframes, but I know the WoR shorts were given out between other episodes, so they would be good to watch in the same order they were originally released. They provide some very helpful lore and backstory for stuff (like dust, the kingdoms, the towers, etc.) that are going to be noteworthy in upcoming episodes. And we all know how much Mosco LOVES lore!

LikeCat

*cough* *cough* Aura *cough*

James Long

For everyone mentioning World of Remnant in the comments, they have spoiler thumbnails on Youtube.

pneuma163

I wonder if there's a disconnect between folks who want Mosco (and Elijah for that matter) to watch the World of Remnant shorts (including me) and folks who are new to RWBY and unaware of their importance. I fully understand that "having time in the day" is another factor, but the disconnect that comes to mind is that shows just don't do that kind of thing nowadays, or if they do anything similar it's very obviously side material. World of Remnant isn't side material, though. Not really. In terms of understanding the show, its characters, and its world, I would rank RWBY itself as a 10/10 and World of Remnant a 9/10. Other actually side material (chibi, ice queendom, justice league crossovers, fairy tales, and other forms of media like comics) are nowhere near the level of importance of World of Remnant. "But it has spoilers!" There's an order to watch them based on release dates, but that's like what I was addressing above since it anticipates that you were watching it as both series (RWBY and World of Remnant) were coming out. It's definitely still relevant to watch later (as viewers of Elijah know). Unfortunately World of Remnant's thumbnails also are a still image of a spoiler for a later volume. Mosco has already seen that spoiler, though, because it showed up on youtube after she watched the Yellow Trailer with Elijah. I think it's reasonable to say that she lacks the context to make it much of a spoiler, though. (And it's not a spoiler for Elijah.) Please do watch World of Remnant! It can even be a side thing that you watch with Elijah and don't react to whatsoever. We just want you to better understand this show that you (both) so clearly adore! Alright, shutting up now.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Downloads might not be necessary anymore. Starting July 8, RWBY will be available on Apple TV for 30+ countries, presumably including Scotland.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

They can be watched in places other than Youtube, and they're fairly important for the show's lore.

James Long

Just saying, gotta be specific. My main concern is more about spoilers rather than extra lore.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

There are some very very simple ways to get around those spoilers, especially now that RWBY is going to be on Apple TV. And Mosco has already seen the thumbnail for one of them and didn't make the connection because the "spoiler" is so vague that it's not clear unless you've actually seen what it's referring to.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

I believe the exact reaction was "is he hitting people with a couple of green dicks?"

Mare

I second this so much!

Eric Smith

Huh, just checked the thumbnails, and... why is the Atlas one like that?!

Mare

The names here in this series are based on Color. as there is a "Color Rule" in Remnant. Monty, the creator of RWBY, had explained the color rules as the following: - Be a color - Sound like a color - Mean a color - Makes people think of a color I can't elaborate anymore regarding WHY as the reason for the Color names are a spoiler itself Neptune - represents the color that is pale blue color with a hint of green Mercury - represents the color, Silver Sun - represents the color, Yellow (However this is a bit of a misdirection if you're familiar with the Chinese language as his name "Sun" is technically pronounced "Suen" (孫) and technically means "Descendent/Grandson." His given name (孫) also is a pun on "macaque" which is "Monkey." His allusion is from the same name of Wukong Sun in "Journey to the West." [And to refresh your memory on the others or if you didn't catch it yet] Ruby - Red ("Ruby" being a variant of Red which makes her allusion "Little Red Riding Hood" Weiss - White (Her name "Weiss Schnee" is literally German for "White Snow" as her allusion is "Snow White.") Blake - Black (Technically her first name means the color "Black" but it can also mean "White" which is what her outfit colors represent. It represents her duality of being both Human and Faunus which makes her allusion "Beauty and the Beast.") Yang - Yellow (Her name in Chinese Simplified Hanzi is (阳) which technically means "Sun" so she's represents Yellow/Gold as her allusion is "Goldilocks" from "Goldilocks and the Three Bears.") Jaune - Yellow - his allusion Joan of Arc (Burnie Burn's owner of Rooster Teeth provided the explanation for the color of "Jaundice" - when your skin or the whites of your eyes turn yellow) Nora - She represents the "Nora Barlow columbine", a PINK flower. And she represents Thor Ren - His surname "Ren," is the Japanese kanji for "lotus" (蓮) and his emblem is the lotus flower. However the Hanzi version of his name (蓮) means "Hunter" and Ren's Color is "Hunter Green" with Pink from the "Lotus". Ren represents the allusion "Mulan"

Stephen Mumford

Yep; I'm sure her Mods can get/make her copies to view that do not include the spoiler-laden thumbnail.

pneuma163

huh... - not that someone typically sees these thumbnails if they're watching it as a playlist (as they should) with youtube's autoplay, but a bunch of them use promo art instead of screenshots. Last I had checked (and why I wrote singular "a spoiler") I remembered the thumbnails being all the same one, but maybe that changed or maybe I misremembered that.

Benjamin Sones

"I need to see her reaction to that moment..." Yeah. Yeah, you do. :D

bloodyshadow1

oh you sweet summer child, you actually think people waited until season 2 to ship

Meganclare7

So news on a season 10 was announced the other days as people probably know, that mixed with the fact Lars of the stars was announced as well means our mosco has an untapped ability lol

Mare

lol seriously. Shipping happened when the Trailers were first released and we didn’t even have their names yet. Which is how those creative names came into fruition LOL

Mare

I might actually drop that World of Remnant: Aura link on Elijah's next RWBY post. Or maybe should I do it now? Thing is, I don't even know if the Mod(s) actually relay any messages. Which is a shame if they don't. Maybe if we simplify that "Aura" in the RWBY-verse is basically like the Chinese "Chi" which is also a protective force.

Becca ^-^

Mosco you shut up! Cinders got nothing! Elijah loves you (I know you know I’m just saying aggressively kind to you!) ^-^ 💜

Becca ^-^

No no no no, it’s okay. Neptune is fine. And it’s not spoilery to say that! I promise! He’s just a lame “cool” guy

Becca ^-^

You’ll learn the writers and creators of the show think about a lot ^-^

Becca ^-^

Wait noooooooo you didn’t get to see the intro!!! Every new volume gets its own amazing intro!!! Mosco you need to make sure you see them and hear them 😯😯😯

ELS_Art

All of the clothes and outfits in the show were made with Cosplayers in mind. A variety of outfit styles with easy cosplayability.

Matthew Outlaw

It is a spoiler though, even saying that something won't happen is absolutely a spoiler

Vince

“WHAT is going on!?” Abject silliness! And like one of my favorite fights in the show lol this was absolutely ridiculous and I loved it. It is the ultimate level of ‘yes, and’ing each others chaos.

Samuel Wilson

You type intimidatingy fast, your typing makes me kinda scared 😂

BartonBelladonna

honestly, I find it really really funny that both her and Elijah got worried about Neptune being a spy because his name is similar to Mercury's, being a name of a god from mythology XD

Silverbell_TTV

Fun fact, the comic Mercury is reading as they come out of Tukson's store, X-Ray and Vav, is a reference to another Rooster Teeth show. Fact #2! That joke Yang makes about starting semesters off with a "Yang"? Her voice actress, Barbara Dunkelman was known among the crew for telling jokes like that all the time. xD Fun fact #3! Neptune is voiced by Kerry Shawcross, who is also one of the lead writers, directors and showrunners. Luckily for Weiss it was Swordfish Saturday at the cafeteria. That exchange between Emerald and Mercury with "I think he was some sort of cat actually." "What, like a Puma?" was a fun little inside reference to Red vs Blue.

Wilhelm Hedin

I also thought there was a time jump. Continuity error?

Anzac-A1

26:10 Mosco, her exact response was "Yes, Mistress".
