Corvids, like Violet, cannot taste spice; although Violet clearly can. A fun way to leave treats out for crows while making sure squirrels don't eat them is to cover them in a spicy powder.

Funny thing, in reality, birds can't taste spice because they don't have they don't have the tastebuds necessary to perceive capsaicin, the active chemical in hot peppers. That's why peppers are hot in the first place, they need birds to distribute their seeds, so they make sure mammals won't eat them. Obviously, humans didn't get the message.
