Look up Talespin and also Wuzzles. As someone who grew up watching these shows you not knowing them is a little frustrating for me. 😅

This is one of the problems I have with this season. There are so many episodes focused on references that people who know nothing about them are just lost.

Alex Hopchurch

Yes, i suppose you could say those characters were from a "Spin" off...lol

Short primer, Talespin was a 90's animated show. Disney took the animal characters from Jungle Book and placed them in a 1920s-styled universe with lots of older model planes. Baloo was the original main character with Kit here as a then-young teen sidekick; his whole bit was cloud-surfing which is what Dewey does in this episode. Baloo and Kit's whole deal was running deliveries for their plane's original owner, Rebecca, and occasional she and her preschool-age daughter, Molly, would join in on the mayhem. This whole episode is effectively a 20-something-year timeskip for those characters, with Kit now taking over for Baloo's character in the show, and Molly for Rebecca's, though Rebecca's character was more 'sensible 90s business woman' vs Molly's daredevil schtick.

Kitt, Molly, and more sister Don Karnaage are all from a classic Disney show called Tailspin, which reimagined some Jungle Book (and a few other Disney animal characters) and flying ace world. Cape Sussette, the place the Ducks wanted to move to in the pilot, is the main setting of the show. I always kind of hoped the Tailspin Sher Kahn would show up as a villain for Scrooge as he was also billionaire tycoon.

My headcannon says Lena save the hands guy.

Honestly, I feel like that's part of the charm. It puts these characters and shows that newer audiences might not know about in the spotlight, encouraging them to look them up, and discover these Disney Afternoon classics that the series is a love letter towards. At least, that's how I first got into TaleSpin and Darkwing Duck.

Yoshinatorsaurus

Don't forget, Don Karnage was their main adversary in the show (next to Shere Khan) and was a little less theatrical, and a much more dangerous threat.

Rumor has it the show was originally meant for Launchpad, but that idea fell through and he ended up on Darkwing Duck instead.

Yeah they went hard on the Disney afternoon cameos for whatever reason. And…granted, the audience this show was popular with was definitely going to get all those references, but it means it won’t age super well if younger folks watch it later. At the same time, old ducktales, goof troop, quack pack, darkwing duck, rescue rangers and tailspin are all on Disney plus, so at least they are accessible if people want to do some research.

David Johnson

A lot of a show called "Tales of the Gold Monkey" inspired it.

David Johnson

Don Karnage is originally from that show.

Something I *just* realized looking through the Wiki.

Porpoise Power

Kitt's cloud kicking thing is an air foil... So there was a joke when Kitt quipped "Foiled again! Don Carnage"(or whatever it was).

Yoshinatorsaurus

You remember how in the Shadow War episode Donald and the triplets were going to move to Cape Suzette? Well, that's where the TaleSpin show everyone's mentioning primarily takes place. It all comes full circle. Also, your realization that Kit was mockingly calling Don "Dan" instead of "dad" the whole time was hilarious. 😂 And yes, that was a running gag in TaleSpin.

Yoshinatorsaurus

Don Karnage is a dhole, a type of wild canine native to India, and the main antagonists of the infamous Red Dog chapter of Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book. As TaleSpin is an anthropomorphic spin-off of Disney's Jungle Book, Karnage, the show's main villain, was made a dhole as an homage to said chapter.
