Isn’t 4 an unlucky number in some cultures? If so this is kind of a funny mix up haha.

Dre

OH SHE KNOWS HIS NAME NOW! Welcome to the Oscar protection squad!!! We will defend our cute little farm boy. 😤

Magikltrevr

The kitchen cabinets in their family home are so high up. What do they do to reach them?

Curtis Murphy

Honestly, given how separate each story line is at the minute, it wasn't the worst place to make this mistake. Nothing major was spoiled or missed.

David Johnson

Going by what I see online - which you can't risk because you might see spoilers - Yang arrived at Beacon at 17. So she's *probably* 18 now, or at least very close to it.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Yes, Raven is The head of a tribe of bandits that are a bunch of murderers and thieves and that's exactly what she is. She left her daughter and husband to do so. She is trash

Luminaxtea

Correct! Japanese and Chinese consider the number 4 to be bad luck because it sounds like their words for death. This is why you might see 4 pop up a lot in J-horror. Crows also have a bad rap for being bad omens and bringers of misfortune according to some myths and superstitions.

Suplee215

another reason I think the professors got all polite around Yang is they're her teacher. Its always fun to see teachers go from relaxing to "I am a professional and role model" or vice versa.

CrowOfAFeather

Aw, that's mighty unfortunate. At least it wasn't anything too serious, but perhaps double check which chapters you watched last time before you watch new ones? It'd suck if it happened again and you basically got spoiled for something that was set up previously ;^^ Just don't worry about it too much this time! You actually saw Oobleck and Port helping people evacuate into the city, right before Ruby rejoined her friends and saw...well, Yang. Raven brought up family with "A girl can't catch up with her family?" when Qrow asked her what she wanted, lol And no, there's no White Fang connection to Raven or her tribe. and yes! Shion is the village Ruby and co. found ruined, with one villager left before he passed away. And he mentioned "Bandits." Also clapping for the editor!

BGTitan

Episode 4: Ah, and here we finally officially meet Raven for the first time. Worst Mom, how you doing? Raven is honestly one of my favorite characters, man. For now, though, we finally get Salem’s name officially dropped in show instead of just in the credits, and another mention of a ‘relic’ of some sort that Salem is apparently searching for. Intriguing. I get what they were going for with Tai, but it’s always rubbed me the wrong way. The way he describes what Yang’s going through as “moping” like she didn’t just go through the gigantic traumatic event that affected not only her but the whole world. And he’s one to talk, considering he shut down after they lost Summer and left a six-year-old alone with her toddler sister enough that she could leave the house to almost get eaten by Grimm. And then at the end, the only reason she puts on the arm is because she thinks she's being a burden to her dad and stopping him from looking for her sister (and I'll give Tai this, this isn't what he meant by his comment and he probably didn't think Yang would hear). Idk. Tai has always been one of those characters that bothers me. And it’s just another personal grievance I have with this volume, again it’s fine if others don’t see it that way.

Suplee215

I think "moping" instead of "grieving" is the same type of personality or humor that the "braincell" joke had. not as direct a joke but it seems like Tai and Yang both downplay serious topics. the 2 words mean the same thing but have different connotations.

Elizabeth McLaughlin

Yeah, Tai's statement about moping really rubbed me the wrong way too. Especially as Yang say's back in Volume 2 that when Summer died he just shut down, and it's implied that it was for a while and Yang practically raised Ruby. So it really comes across to me as him being hypocritical here in his criticism of Yang. I have . . . *opinions* on Tai's relationship with both his daughters lol.

Connor Hines

It was a jab at Tai for marrying raven (and Qrow depending on which fan theories you believe)

Phoenix_mercury

My only "pro" of it is that he knew that Yang didn't/wouldn't want to be handled with "kid gloves" so to speak, treating her like she's weak/broken ect was the last thing she wanted so his comment was literally a "I'm not gonna pull punches and treat you softly because you don't want that" me and my mother and my best friend did similar with me when I was diagnosed with one of my disabilities, the first of many that got doctors actually looking into things they'd brushed off, I literally got "guess that's it for running now, well unless ya wanna collapse lol" from my best friend on the way home the day of and "ya got a pair of useless hips/spine too eh?" From my mother when I was on video call with her when I got home anyone else even suggests a "joke" ect and my best friend is on immediate high alert. However I feel most of your criticism of his "raising" of the girls I would likely agree with given my(other) distain for him as a father

Mordred pendragon

not sure what watch order you're following for when to watch the World of Remnant episodes, but the episodes for each of the four kingdoms, The Schnee Dust Company and The Great War were released just before volume 4 and give some extra clarification, like your confusion about Mantle and Atlas in the last set

Wil DeYoung

So while I can't attest to how one feels over the loss of the limb, I believe the implication with Taiyang calling it moping is that it's been at least four months at this point. She's had her space to grieve and he's trying to push her out of that rut and back onto her feet because he knows that she's probably done or close to done with dealing with her loss.

Jonathan Morgan

Qrow's line about "bringing up family" was in response to Raven saying "can't a girl catch up with family"

Jonathan Morgan

Shion was the destroyed village from Chapter 2. The one that was attacked by bandits, then Grimm

Ryan

It's funny that you reacted to three chapters at once (by accident) when everyone over on Elijah's channel is trying to get her to react to three chapters at once (on purpose). Anex is going to need combat pay for both of your reactions to RWBY. Oh, it sounds like you had plenty of "extra curricular" activities during high school ;) It's constantly fascinating that RWBY can take its time to slow down and get to know it's characters when the episodes are shorter than usual. Such efficient writing and scenic composition. One lantern: *snuffs out* Mosco: *thirty seconds of over analysis* Patreons: "that's why we're here." ---- I lost most of the use of my dominant arm for about two weeks when I shattered my clavicle. I can't imagine how hard it would be to completely lose it. But I was in my late 30s when that happened - I would not have handled it as well if I had that accident as a teenager. But I was cleared to start biking again within six weeks - Yang has been down for months, and has a kickass prosthetic. Each finger has a different "feature". I already mentioned the laser pointer (index finger) last episode - the thumb is a lighter.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Huh, interesting anecdote about Scotland, I can definitely see how you'd relate to Tai here. Also, interestingly enough, "yang xiaolong" is Chinese for "little sun dragon". Taiyang Xiao-Long means "Supreme Sun Dragon".

Cinder's Apologist

love that you spent so much time analyzing the lantern going out. can't explain why that matters for now, but glad you noticed it :3 also fun fact for ya: I've heard from one intelligent tumblr mutual that it's quite plausible the Branwens have a LOT of Celtic lore woven into their character design/allusions. as a small hint of where to start looking, Qrow's weapon is called Harbinger and Raven's weapon is Omen. so yeah, more Scotland canon confirmation! I can't recall any further details but best not to bring them up as I might risk spoiling things XD so the kids were 17 at Beacon (except Ruby who was 15), and the time skip for volume 4 is several months. therefore, we can assume that Weiss, Blake, and Yang are 18 during this particular arc and Ruby is 16. also yeah, Taiyang is an interesting dad. he's certainly not a terrible dad, he does have his own loss that is still haunting him, but he really does care about his girls. Yang has matured a bit for sure because of this loss... she can't afford to be a "thrill seeker" and play it fast and loose when fighting and adventuring anymore, not like she acted at Beacon. ngl I love how eager you are to come up with theories and then how quickly some of them get debunked a mere 10 seconds later into the episode lmao. but as someone who has been spending a lot of time combing through RWBY to analyze all the little things while waiting for new volumes, that is super valid and fun to see. keep it up!

Nightowl

One fitting element about Raven’s name, which the creators might have been familiar with, is that in German the term “Rabenmutter”, literally “raven mother”, describes a mother who is neglecting her children.

Angelus Lupus

The level of detail Mosco picks up, and analyses in the scenery, camera framing, and overall environmental storytelling makes me confident there's going to be a LOT of cool stuff to discuss and nerd out over when The Elves of Amaranth comes out!

Mare

The thing is, Tai doesn't exactly know what she lost. While he's aware of the arm, Yang statement had deeper levels. Which is funny because Tai also lamented what he had lost on his own during that scene. Both of them lost someone dearly, it's just that Tai doesn't know it's someone connected to Yang and just assumes it's just her arm.

Mare

"A piece of me is never coming back." Well...Yang's definitely got the edge on being abandoned. Taiyang knows that feeling all too well too. It's funny though...most people think Yang is just talking about her arm...instead of someone. Her dad thinks it's just her arm while he thinks about his own personal losses in that scene. What you're now watching and experiencing with the Xiao Longs is their infamous "Xiao Long method of Compartmentalizing and Masking Emotions." Yang can't do it anymore as her water damn kind of busted open after the Fall of Beacon. Ruby still uses the Xiao Long method. Just gonna share what was in the "World of RWBY Companion" guide book: (PG 68 of the book) "Yang's simmering anger stems from her feelings of abandonment, AND she is consequently extremely protective of her younger sister. Shawcross: "Yang lost her mom like Ruby, but then Yang had to fill that same role." Under Taiyang's section of the book, it describes his tendencies to compartmentalize and keep things to himself Taiyang (PG 92) Burnie Burns: "He doesn't spend a lot of time talking about his emotions, but he's been through a lot. I think about men who went to war and experienced horrible things, but when they came back to support their families, they never spoke a word about it. They took it to their grave." rave."

Andrew Hart

I thought the same thing, one more chapter though, and oof. Without the scene of Oscar in this chapter she would have been both spoiled and confused with the start of chapter 7 lol

Lavender Onyxheart

But what if...Yang is grieving the loss of her arm AND moping because Blake left :3

LucidDreamWolf88

It’s so funny that Mosco laughed at the dad’s jab about yang losing brain cells along with her arm But Elijah got sooo mad at first till she realized it was a joke ad yang laughed at it lol

Ryan

She lost *both* her right hands!

Kitsune Kokoro

I feel like the guys being be a bit more formal when Yang walked in was less about her being a girl, and more that the three of them were approximately peers but Yang was their student. Something of a "trying to set a better example for the younger generation" sort of thing.

Vex Valor

I was excited to see your reaction to Tai and Yang's dark humor. I am not Scottish, but I do have dark humor like that. A lot of my friends do as well and then I forget that is not everyone's humor. It really is like that at times with shocked people in the background that you did such a harsh joke at times. lol

Arashi

Yeah, that's a slight issue with this and next volume (though to a lesser extent), with everyone scattered, chapters aren't clearly linear between the girls. It's glossed over twice, but not exactly a spoiler (mostly because it has no real effect overall) but Blake's story is 'first', Ruby's is 'longest' due to her traveling on foot but more or less ends with this volume. Weiss is next with Yang being the last one of the team to begin acting. Oscar is also in that, roughly behind Yang. However until everyone links back up, chapters are jumping around a lot. Still, props to Anex for dealing with a fuck up by the boss. :)

MtVesuvius

Oh yeah, Mosco. The piece of land that looks kinda like a dragon is canonically Scotland.

Lt. Waffles

Fun Fact: Tai's voice actor actually lives in Scotland now. He's the guy that founded Rooster Teeth.

summer

such a peak reaction as always

Tigerhawk

I do have one critique, and it’s sort of a gripe I have with reactors in general. But when two characters are having a conversation, watch the entire scene instead of pausing and trying to analyze every couple of lines. If you want to go back after the exchange is over sure great. But when Qrow and Raven is talking about the damage at Shion and “you have someone powerful on your side” PAUSE! Two lines later, oh we’re talking about the Spring Maiden. Still loving the reactions but just a small gripe.

Rod

You need to go watch Elijah’s reaction to Yang and her dad.

Rod

Don’t forget the vibrate function

Ryan

That's the middle finger ;)

Taigan

Someone else probably posted this already but the Wizard of Oz’s real name is *Oscar* Diggs. (Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkle Emmannuel Ambroise Diggs, to be exact.)

Suplee215

Again on the moping thing because I was thinking about it, I think its very telling how he says it. Not in a condescending way (outside of word choice). The tone is very much take your time, im here for you.

Diesel Marcus

That's a mouthful and a half! XD

Taigan

You can always go by the initials: OZPINHEAD

Wilhelm Hedin

Scotland is confirmed but so is Bruce Willis. Joan asked Weiss out to a Bruce Willis movie in one of the early episodes. She said no, but still, it exists.

Wilhelm Hedin

Still love Ozpin/his voice. He's a cute pie.

Vince

Taiyang ‘Whole Team’ Xiao Long

Sarah Stephens

Thats ok i didnt realise you skipped 4 until you got to 7/8

Sarah Stephens

Funny thing about you asking if he's Scottish is that his voice actor moved to Scotland years ago. Hes also voiced by one of the 4 founders of rooster teeth

CRuhl_Para_TPT911

I think Juan said “Spruce Willis” actually. Have to see it in subtitles again.

CRuhl_Para_TPT911

Of course we do not know how many weeks/months this has been going with Yang. Tai has previously taken the “give space and wait” stance. Now it’s switched to “hard BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front) and take it as you will”. “The Tribe” Qrow and Raven refer to is a bandit group. And Shion village is the one the gang came across in Ch 2 with the inhabitants slaughtered. As for the mask, since the Grimm are the monsters of this world I’m sure many a group looking to inspire fear uses that visage.

Curtis Knapp

The Scot's: The only people Masochistic enough to Invent the game of Golf, and Sadistic enough to Export it to the rest of the world.

Vegvisir92

its a shame that orange thing decided to make so much of Golf

RaisedEyebrow

I love the day-and-night difference between your and Elijah's reaction to Tai's "lost braincells" line. She was ready to throw hands before Yang started laughing!

Someday Sera

Looking at Raven, I wonder if Velvet Crowe is based on her. Her therion form looks VERY similar. (protagonist of tales of berseria) they have somewhat similar personalities too. That game would have come out around 3 years later, so I could see rwby being an influence on it's design. She's also just...HUGE, which is super cool, I think mosco is right about it being because ravens are much bigger than crows.
