I just checked the wiki. Volume 5 has 14 chapters! That means doing these shorts by themselves was a good call. It means going forward Mosco can (hopefully) do two chapters every upload as she goes through volume 5.

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

I do hope you'll go back at some point and watch the Volume 4 World of Remnant shorts. Some very useful information there

Vince

Watching you and Elijah fall in love with this show that fundamentally changed my DNA since 2013 has been so…healing? Soothing? Whatever it is, it’s been incredible. I owe you both my life.

Taigan

I can sympathize with Mosco’s sibling confusion. I’m the youngest of four siblings, and none of us have two parents in common.

Sting Eucliffe

Just so you know in the upcoming season we find out Zwei is the Spring Maiden, he comes and helps Ruby and the gang out and finally once and for all defeat mustache guy.

Curtis Murphy

I hope you watch the Volume 4 World of Remnant shorts at some point. They have some good information about the world probably more so than the other ones too imo.

Ann_Temki

Fun fact: you can tell that Weiss’ is a good amount before her trailer became she has no scar and her ponytail isn’t lopsided yet- Also you picked up on it but Weiss’ songs are VERY interconnected with a big mirror theme (as a callback to her Snow White origin)

Spadeas

Argh I can't watch Weiss's short and hearing the song that play during it, without having teary eyes... Without too much spoiler, it's a song about loosing yourself and not knowing who you are anymore, so of course as a genderqueer person myself, i can't help to find some sentence pretty reliable in it... That is the only song of RWBY that I can't sing entierly even if I know the lyric almost by heart. Speaking of song, for Blake's short, the song is actually about Ilia. Oh and about Ilia, if I didn't talked about how Blake and Kali's hears are a genious idea that the crew had for showing even more emotions, Ilia's color change are on the same level. As for Yang's short, just want to point out how different the sisterhood between Yang and Ruby and Weiss and Winter are, Yang saying that she will always have Ruby's back while Winter say she won't always be here for Weiss, very different approach, but with the little we've seen about the two family, it's understandable.

CrowOfAFeather

Super excited for these! But where are the WoR ones? :O Anywho, yes, Weiss' short was a flashback; the biggest giveaway is when they have it zoom in on Weiss' face, showing the lack of scar, with other clues such as her ponytail being centred and her wearing her old outfit. So this is before the White trailer. I remember Elijah not noticing either and thinking this took place right before she left lol But you got it! Loving the parallels they did with Weiss and Yang's shorts; Winter claiming that she won't always be there to save Weiss, while Yang swears that she'll always have Ruby's back. Sisters yay!

CrowOfAFeather

I believe she's following Elijah's schedule, so chapters 1 and 2 will be separate.

Joe

I've always wondered what would have happened if Weiss hadn't called out to Winter?

Trivia & Goofs for V5 Weiss Short * This short marks the debut of Winter Schnee's new Maya model and her new eye color. * The majority of the short takes place before the White Trailer. This is indicated by the absence of Weiss' scar and the fact that her ponytail is centered. * In an episode of RWBY Rewind, effects artist Jeff Yohn detailed that following Kerry's request of having the Grimm dissolving looking like ice, the end result was so well-received that all the following Grimm deaths in the show employed the effect. Yohn added that the effects in the long take where Weiss kills six Beowolves took 18 hours total to complete. * The ending of the short was re-told in the episode "Red, White, Black, Yellow from RWBY: Ice Queendom. At 0:34, Weiss is not holding Myrtenaster (Her Sword) even though she had just shown it in the previous shot Trivia & Goofs for V5 Blake Short * The flashback in the short takes place before the Black Trailer, as indicated by Blake's Beacon Arc outfit and her relationship with Ilia. At 2:16 and 3:42 Gambol Shroud (Blake’s Weapon) seems to have gone missing. At 02:21 when Ilia's associate cuts the rope and the wagon starts moving the wheels don't spin. From 3:10 onwards, Ilia's associate is missing his revolver for no apparent reason. At 3:47 the katana/gun part of Gambol Shroud is missing despite having been there before. At 4:17 the White Fang mask in Ilia's hand seems to have gone missing. Trivia & Goofs for V5 Yang Short * A large part of the short takes place sometime before Volume 1. This is indicated by Yang saying she's going to Beacon Academy soon and both Ruby and Yang wearing their Beacon Arc outfits. * During their training, Yang recreates the pose of the original RWBY promotional poster. * Yang encountering an Ursa coming out of the woods while searching for Ruby parallels her Beacon initiation. * The thought bubble of Ruby's weapon, Crescent Rose (Ruby's Weapon), is the same chibi model used for RWBY Chibi. At 1:29 Yang is very close to the Ursa, then both of them end up on the far opposites of the field.

Dre

Ohhhh okay. That makes sense.

EmberPanther

Volume 5 is one of my favorites, for many-a-reason, but the biggest one is that this is the Volume where CRWBY was able to spend their budget and time for animation on specifically character body language and other non-verbal communication. Also, agreed, Weiss is baby, protec the baby. I love these shorts so much, they do such a good job showing one of my favorite parts of the show, which is complex character connections and contrast between even with “similar” dynamics, like how both Winter and Yang trained their little sisters, but they clearly have very different backgrounds and that translates into their teaching!

Sam

I love these shorts, though I do have to ask, were you planning to do the last batch of World of Remnants?

Geass

I hope you watch the rest of the World of Remnant videos soon. They were all released before Volume 5 aired.

Azure R.

Oh my gods, same. When Elijah first started reacting to RWBY I was so hyped. And whenever Elijah would talk about trying to convince Mosco to watch the show it always made me smile and then it finally happened and I was over the moon!

BGTitan

I love that these shorts were also just a good excuse to get their V1-3 models into the Maya engine, and give us some little flashbacks to before they went to Beacon. Weiss Short: Path to Isolation (Mirror Mirror pt 0.5) is such a good song. Also, of the three I think this has my favorite fight choreography. It's very dance like. That one wide shot with her bouncing from Summon to Summon is masterful. Crwby were just flexing at this point. This seems to take place before even her initial color trailer where she fought the suit of armor (Arma Gigas), seeing as she doesn't even have her scar yet and she's still in her V1 outfit. Then there's just how she acts during the fight. She's stopping to admire her weapon, she's showing off a lot more than we've ever seen her do. Also, first time seeing Winter in the new engine. Blake Short: I've seen a lot of people comparing Ilia's story to that of a kid of two different ethnicities being raised as one or the other because they pass for one more than the other. I can't speak to this personally (I'm white as snow) but I enjoyed reading people's comments about this and how Ilia's story hit a chord with them back when this aired. Action wise this short isn't spectacular but this one really was just focused on giving us Ilia lore, and setting up the potential conflict for Blake. I love Ilia's voice. Cherami does such a good job, and gives her this nice raspy quality. It's great. And since you brought up how Blake’s trailers tend to revolve around other people I’ll share this fun fact. Monty said the Black Trailer with Adam was special in that it didn’t truly become about Blake until she made that choice to leave at the end. And I think that’s because until that moment, Blake was under Adam’s thumb, she was stuck in this horrible situation with someone who consumed so much of her life. It’s not so much the same idea with Ilia here but Blake’s Short centering around Ilia feels like a callback to the idea set in Blake’s OG trailer. Yang Short: Showing off one of Yang's most fatal flaws, her willingness to throw herself in front of danger to protect her loved ones even if she gets hurt in the process. Taking the hits so others don't have to. Oh, my sweet girl. Her semblance is made for that, sure, but...even that has it's limits. Ignite is also just a banger of a song. A great Yang anthem. Alright, and with those lovely little slices of backstory out of the way, we're on to V5 proper. I'm very excited. So many moments I can't wait for you to see!

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Please stop saying Weiss is becoming one of your favorite characters. She is mine and I don't want to lose her. Every living creature has aura in this world. We saw Zwie use it... and how, at the end of v2. Yes,I believe Ilea's parents died in that explosion Knowing all the songs is actually kinda important

CorgiSnapz

Note on Weiss from the Short -- she also is still putting her hair up back in the centre of her head instead off to the side as she does in her trailer and vol 1-3. Perhaps changing the look was yet another show of defiance to the Path of Isolation she has been forced onto.

Jonathan Morgan

Every living creature has the *potential* for Aura. It still has to be activated either through stress or by someone who already has theirs. Zwei has an activated Aura because he's the dog of a Huntsmen family who activated his.

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

But...but...Mosco DID watch them in WBY order (or at least presented them that way in the video. Got Weiss first, then Blake, then Yang. That's even the order they premiered in, back in the day...

BGTitan

Yeah I tend to copy my comments over from Elijah’s reactions and then tweak as necessary for Mosco and forgot to erase that part. Completely my bad, but I fixed it. Lol

Curtis Murphy

If you haven't already, you should listen to the songs from the show. They are fantastic and can help give more insight into characters

Weiss: This character short is super enlightening for a rewatch of the Beacon trilogy, especially Weiss’ behavior in volume 1. She had the best training of our main 4, but no real world experience. Living in Atlas, she was never attacked by real Grimm until the Geist in the armor (which scarred her for life), until then she exclusively dealt with enemies she could call off if she needed to. This is why everyone else sprang into action without hesitation whereas Weiss immediately started overthinking when she got surrounded by Grimm, then ran when the fight went south, then got defensive when Ruby pointed out that they were low level and it should have been effortless. She was right of course, once Weiss pulled herself together she was more than capable, she just lacked the real world experience to put her training and talent to good use. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, RWBY does FANTASTIC with subtext. Blake: Blake admiring Ilia for not hiding is so interesting to me. This is a flashback, she isn’t hiding her ears yet, but it’s obvious that the thought is ALREADY on her mind which is just. So sad. Blake and Ilia are opposites; Blake grew up with a family that were proud to be Faunus and who started up a whole movement for Faunus rights, but after a falling out with her parents, she ran away from them at a young age. Ilia grew up with parents who encouraged her to suppress and hide her Faunus traits for her own safety and status, and then lost them at a young age. They both ended up turning to the White Fang, but in the end, Blake found her way back out. It’s just so interesting to me. RWBY has a lot of super interesting little dynamics and mirrors like that. Yang: This scene seems super wholesome on the surface, and it is, but it’s also super bittersweet. There are a lot of little details that hint that Ruby and Yang had a pretty screwed up childhood actually (Yang saying Tai ‘shut down,’ Qrow being a known drunk) and if you’ll notice, Yang and Ruby still seem to share a room at the end of vol3, Yang was simply staying in a guest room to recover. So they’re obviously close af. Imagine how terrifying this would be for both of them, being separated for 2 school years. Like yeah obviously Yang could visit but still, that’s a lot of time Ruby would spend alone in a world where negative emotions attract man eating monsters, and the whole time she would be worrying about Yang not coming back the same way their mom didn’t. This scene seems cute but dang it has some dang undertones if you stop and think about it, it makes you glad things played out the way they did

Jittercritter

14:12 It’s never stated in the show but I always felt like Faunus do have a lot more durability/survivability than humans seem to. A WoR might imply this but I could be remembering wrong, always been a headcanon of mine though. Since they don’t make big settlements like humans do it makes sense

Ryan

I loved volume four and these shorts because it took the concept of the "day after" episode - where the plot slows down and lingers on the main character after a traumatic event - and stretched it out. A lesser show would have dealt with this all in one or two episodes, but not RWBY. And these shorts! Normally we get flashbacks that give us clarity on a character in the penultimate episode before the season finale. But having them here, and having them rhyme with the four color trailers, makes it feel like an entr'acte, where volumes one through four were the acts of an unconventional symphony that saved the adagio for last - and now volumes five through nine are the second symphony. Ah, yes, volume nine, where we unlock Oscar's semblance - the ability to see through time - and get a beautiful three part "what could have been" episode about Pyrrha and Jaune that ends with their twins from the alternate timeline somehow ending up in ours.

Cinder's Apologist

yep, these shorts are such a treat, as well as significant for character development heading into volume 5... Weiss short: look closer and you'll see two small details - her ponytail is straight back, not off-center like it was and still is; and she has no scar over her eye. so that tells you it's well before she fought the Arma Gigas (which was her test to secure her father's permission to leave for Beacon). Blake short: yeah, there's a lot going on. I hadn't really thought about her trailers featuring a focus on someone else as much as Blake, but it does make sense for reasons I can't say just yet. Yang short: honestly valid to be worried about Yang taking hits given what you know will happen. also very interesting to note the contrasting dynamic between Winter and Yang in that older sister role, something that informs a lot about how Weiss and Ruby grew up but also the long-term arcs of those elder sisters. so glad you're hyped for v5! but I must implore you to finish watching the WoR series because it really does provide world-building lore that you might find helpful going forward.

CheetsAC7

Every time I rewatch the Weiss short, I do get that reminder of how much shes grown in the show. Her character development is my personal favorite.

CRuhl_Para_TPT911

You can tell it is before her “final trial” duel with the knight construct since she has not been scarred yet. A shame we did not have the animation to this level in the Battle of Beacon as it would have been a better representation of her ability take out the opposition instead of the “sweeping stills”. Per Vol. 1 and WoR: Aura, every living thing has Aura. Hunters (I’ll use that as opposed to having to differentiate genders) just have a) a high level; and b) training to use it. But it is still not outside the realm to think others cannot exert their own amount of Aura use. But also,…the animators likely did not want to have to do a whole panicked crowd scene.

Globe Blotter

is this the saturday reaction? or is there another one? Sorry just joined!!

It's clarified in the RWBY manga that Weiss wears her ponytail off center to irk her father; she has it straight behind her head in this short and no scar on her face either. The RWBY manga also spells out explicitly that defeating the Armor Gigas from the White Trailer was Jacques final test before he would allow her to attend Beacon instead of Atlas. He didn't think she could do it; She proved him wrong.

John J Ronald

Winter: "I won't always be there to save you." Yang: "I've always got your back, Sis."

John J Ronald

The song that plays during the Weiss character short is about Weiss slowly losing her mother to alcoholism, among other themes.
