Rod

Oh, aren’t we just a ray of sunshine. It’s not your first chapter of RWBY.

Liam Gradwell

RWBY doesn’t forget and certainly won’t let us forget. 😭❤️🤍🖤💛

cipher

"If this is about pyrrha I swear to fuck" Was Elijah able to keep the "I'm innocent and don't know face?" Also I have seen this episode like 6 times. How the fuck did I not see that sign till now? The shows not going to let you forget because Jaune can't forget. EDIT: This reaction just gets better. Elijah is a little brat with the pumpkin pete's. WOW

Rod

Her semblance is “Preflexes”

SportySpice

Cinder was able to absorb the Fall Maiden’s powers via that Grimm bug that lives within her. That what Ruby burned through at Beacon with her eyes. And obviously Cinder had her Grimm arm at Haven when Ruby’s eyes started to react. EDIT: Qrow confirms Summer had silver eyes. “You’re special, the same way your mom was special.”

Justin Payne

No WAY Elijah offered Pumpkin Pete's during that scene 😂😂😂

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

I mean, they gave you volume 5 to move on, pretty much... Also, Ruby was referring to the battle at Haven, where Cinder DID have the Grimm arm. So there was definitely something she wasn't seeing there. Also also, Qrow confirmed back in Vol. 3 that Summer Rose had silver eyes

Brandon Dodge

We did get official confirmation by Qrow in Volume 3 Chapter 12 that Summer Rose also had Silver Eyes and also saw a picture of her in his photo of Team STRQ. And he also reiterated that being a Silver Eyed Warrior puts a target on her back in Volume 4 Chapter 8. Also in Volume 4 Chapter 1 Hazel mentioned that they dealt with their kind before. Salem is at the very least very aware of the Silver Eyed Warriors.

BGTitan

Ep 8: That instrumental of Red Like Roses during the Silver Eye talk has to be one of my favorite bits of score in the show. There’s some This Will Be the Day (V1 intro) in there too, but the RLR bit really resonates with me. Maria also just has the best lines in this episode. “Now, now, let’s not give up hope yet… Maybe she’s dead.” “Oh, Cordo, they say time changes people. But I see you’ve still got that stick right up your-” We don’t deserve this woman. Tock (the lady from last episode) did work for Salem. That's the implication. And Haven is the school from last volume, so yes Cinder had her Grimm arm. Ruby just doesn't know about that cuz Cinder had it covered. Fun fact: Cordovin is voiced by the same woman who voices Kikimora in Owl House, Mela Lee. Ep 9: Only in RWBY can your feelings be hurt by a single autumn leaf. PYRRHA!!! Speaking of Pyrrha, the “mysterious woman” (most likely Pyrrha’s mom) was voiced by Jen Brown, the same VA that voiced Pyrrha. I do find it interesting that Mercury’s father had a semblance that could take away other semblances (or maybe just lock them away?) and that he did that to his own son so he wouldn’t rely on it. Honestly though, considering the bits that we do know about Marcus Black, it’s not that surprising. Also, Merc literally spoke last season. And oh, Emerald. Emerald, Em, my girl. Wake up, sweetheart. Merc may have said it like an ass but Cinder does not care about you. She does not deserve your loyalty. Please.

Phoenix_mercury

26:45 false, cinder had the arm, she used it in the flashback in V3 C6 fall to absorb half amber's power and it's also why cinder crumpled when ruby's eyes was triggered in the battle of haven

Spadeas

And the "you got to be kidding me" of Volume 6 is from Qrow. I really need to made a list of which people said it on each volume since it's appear everytime.

Ann_Temki

Fun fact: you can actually hear the melody of “Forever Fall” as far back as when Jaune and Pyrrha meetup in the forest

Suplee215

Love your takes on Qrow. Very understanding of his situation beyond what most reactors I have seen do. One additional aspect here is Qrow isnt used to responsibility. A weight lifted from his shoulder in season 5 when Ozpin came in and took leadership ofnthe group. And now hes left and Qrow is once again responsible for a bunch of kids. Saffron already questioned the legality of him doing this and that is withoit knowing the full story. Qrow is now the adult in the room and he fully understands why thats a bad idea

Magikltrevr

We don't actually know what relation the woman at the memorial has toward Pyrrha. Could be mother, aunt, older sister, anything. But she is also voiced by the same person as Pyrrha, Jen Brown.

Needoriginalname

You see I knew they would bring back Pyrrha somehow, just as a statue now less.

CrowOfAFeather

18:30 No, we were told in V3 finale by Qrow that Summer had Silver Eyes too. 20:07 Except we know Salem is the only one actively hunting down Silver-Eyed people. Tock was one of her henchmen who hunted Maria after all. "The only reason MY MASTER wants you dead is because of your eyes." They later confirmed this in the Amity Arena mobile game that her master was Salem. 26:38 Cinder had her Grimm arm back then. She was struggling to control it all V4 and kept it hidden during V5 until she attacked Vernal. Then there's the detail a lot of people miss in V3; the flashback of Cinder taking half of Amber's Fall Maiden powers. She's using a glove that opens up a "portal" in the palm, where a Grimm bug appeared out of. That's how she got the powers, i.e. not naturally. So there's the Grimm in Cinder which is what Ruby's eyes reacts too, but Ruby doesn't know currently. 40:27 There were survivors of people from all across Remnant, students, and obviously Pyrrha had a family. If they didn't hear from her they'd assumed the worst and there'd be an investigation, and it'd be confirmed eventually. Edit: she was a celebrity, a well-known face too. People would find out pretty quickly. A pleasant reaction despite the Pyrrha stuff and apparent anger it resulted in. Can't wait for next week!

PheonixCantra

beat me too it. so many keep forgetting how she stole the Maiden powers.

Sweg Money

Something I have always felt is so fascinating about this series of episodes in particular is that like, the personhood of Salem makes this so much different. Like they were all happy to fight an unwinnable fight against the Grimm, but when it became personal it felt like it *should* be winnable. Salem as an unstoppable force of nature has been kept from exterminating the world for an incredibly long time so "logically" this is no different from what they thought was going on, just now they have more details. However, this is a show about emotions and not logic so because there's now an enemy leader who can't be conventionally beaten it feels more hopeless than a struggle against nature.

Jyoster

Yeah, CRWBY will never let us live down the pain they've inflicted upon us. The best way we've found to cope with the pain is to share it with others. Misery loves company as they say. But yeah, we're approaching the finale of the volume, so prepare yourself!

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Cinder had Grimm in her both times Ruby laserballed her

TheyWereMarried

We did get 2 whole volumes to mourn Pyrrha and move on as well as part of Volume 6 before they brought this up. 13th Febuary 2016 - 29th December 2018 was 2 years 10 months apart.

May

This isn’t a spoiler (technically still just a theory that’s all based on stuff you’ve seen already) as it’s not ever directly communicated and is really just something you’d have to deduce yourself or have someone tell you, but the presumed reason Ruby’s eyes reacted to Cinder during Beacon is supposedly because of the Grimm parasite we saw her use to extract the maiden powers from Amber. It makes complete sense given the nature of that Grimm is clearly abnormal and can cling to people and sorta fuse with them. I believe the markings on Cinders eyes are also very similar to the markings that were on Ambers face due to the Grimm bug. The only other theory I’ve seen people believe is that silver eyes react to maidens, which I would say is pretty easily debunked as Raven wasn’t seemingly effected by the silver eyes in vol 5, whereas Cinder was. Additionally, I’d expect it to also react to Oscar as well, as ultimately Magic is what makes the maidens which came from Oz who still has Magic himself. Tie that with the fact it would imply that the god of light naturally harms people with magic (which used to be everyone) when transforming and yeah there’s a bit of an issue I think. Really any other theories just don’t hold up. I feel like I along with others just believe it’s something that’s poorly communicated to the viewer and honestly might not ever be something they’ll directly address or explain. Now what isn’t really as clear is how she has a Grimm arm. I originally thought the bug just fused with her and created it. But I think the more popular theory is that the Grimm bug caused her to loose an arm/injured it beyond repair and Salem replaced it herself by giving her a Grimm arm which now makes her constantly vulnerable to Ruby’s eyes. Course Ruby still has no idea about her arm nor does she know about the Grimm bug.

May

Technically incorrect. At haven she has the Grimm arm, but for Amber she used a Grimm parasite. A tool given to her by Salem to extract the Maiden powers but not in anyway a part of her body. But you have the right idea. It’s that parasite she carried on her person that presumably is why she now has a missing eye and arm.

supersoaker

On this night, Team JNPR was reunited one last time

CB Jones

I get that it was likely the emotions talking a bit at the memorial but I feel like saying that the show wasn't letting them move on is really the opposite of what that scene is. They've been stuck grieving this whole time, running from one mission to another and never taking the time to process losing Pyrrha. It's why Jaune reacts so explosively to the truth about Oz, his grief has been festering with no outlet and the realization that they'd been misled forced it to the surface. This moment is about them being pushed to confront their grief with all the cards on the table so that they finally CAN move on.

Phoenix_mercury

The parasite is clearly attached to her in some way otherwise when it siphoned the power it wouldn't have gone directly to cinder ergo it can be inferred that the bug has(in some way, we don't technically know exactly how it works) been connected to her aura i.e is part of her and as such has caused the arm(potentially, again we don't have specifics) to become how it has

Migli

i already knew this and still reading this hurt

Phoenix_mercury

I think it's because at the end of V3 she gets the rest of the powers "naturally"(they go to her Vs her siphoning them like the first time) and people forget how she originally got the first bit

Ryan

Leaf: *appears* Elijah: *probably giggles* Mosco: *slow turn* ... ...THERE WAS A SIGN!? The fact that your mic is set up so we can't hear Elijah makes it look like you're yelling at Hamish. Stop yelling at Hamish! --- Don't worry. Nothing traumatic happens for the rest of the volume, and the next few volumes. Pay no attention to the fact that Elijah broke down crying after a reaction. Twice. Volume eight takes place in near real time and is a crazy bachelorette party for Winter. But you can't know that; you're still in volume six!

Curtis Murphy

Cinder has had a bit of Grimm inside her since she tried taking Amber's Maiden powers in the Volume 3 flashback. It's what gives her the ability to steal the magic

Flufux

I'm frankly shocked that neither you nor Elijah caught on that Caroline Cordovin is voiced by Mela Lee, AKA Kikimora from the Owl House.

John Hannon

I just need to say, you two are adorable as flock and it brings me endless joy when you two interact.

Cinder's Apologist

very well said. and that sentiment is something that comes up later down the road... but yes, these kids did not visibly give themselves time to grieve what they'd lost. too busy trying to move forward and save the world without really dealing with what happened along the way.

Ann_Temki

I’m glad you picked up on both the Pyrrha Leaf and the airship above her statue, they’re very nice bits of cinematography

Cinder's Apologist

gotta love Maria and her crazy old lady antics! but seriously, yeah they've got a lot to take in here. as pointed out elsewhere, Jaune, Nora and Ren really didn't get a chance to sit with the loss of Pyrrha until they found that memorial. so it is significant that they took a moment to stop, let it sink in, and indeed move on from the loss of their teammate - by resolving to fight and to honor her. ALSO if it hasn't been brought up before... one cool factoid is that when you get shots of JNR, sometimes you can see a visible space being left among them, like there's a space that Pyrrha would have filled in. and on a more sincere note: I fully get that it sucks to be reminded of Pyrrha's death, that the show keeps bringing it up. however, it's not just about reminding the main cast of what they lost; it's about what Pyrrha embodied and spurring them to keep going, for her and for everyone else. because Pyrrha was truly a huntress, she had the spirit of one. good catch on the musical motifs when Ruby and Maria had their little chat! I really hope both you and Elijah take time to listen to the soundtracks in the future because the music adds so much depth and heart to the show. the immediate answer is that Cinder had her Grimm arm hidden, so Ruby didn't see it. but personally, I'm not convinced it's just the presence of Grimm that triggers Ruby's eyes when it comes to Cinder... I believe there's a lot more going on that she hasn't realized yet. I feel that about Mercury. never been a big fan of his, always find him kinda annoying, but you do feel bad for him given his shitty backstory. and in case it isn't clear, here's an explainer on his probable Semblance that got stolen: his logo is a winged shoe, he wears tracksuits, and his name is Mercury like the Roman god with the winged feet. plus, he has prosthetic legs. therefore, he likely had a Semblance that allowed him to run super fast, and his father stole it in part by cutting off his legs. it's possible he stole it by some other means, but if he was that cruel then I could imagine Mercury just straight up lost his legs at a young age. as for Emerald, definitely a big fan. I hope you like what's in store for her later on.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Yes, Pyrra showed Juane that airship and gave him the idea on how to get to Atlas and that's why he thanked her. Great pickup on your part. It took me about 10 watches for me to realize why he thanked her.

LucidDreamWolf88

Lmfao I’m sangry! And when Elijah brought you the pumpkin Pete’s 😂

BermudaShortz

Pyrra haunting the narrative again

Mare

So for the lady with red hair by Pyrrha's statue, the RWBY V6 Blu-ray commentary by CRWBY was interesting in that regard. Miles, Kerry and crew pointed out that they'd never reveal who that lady is but they did say "USE YOUR BRAINS!!" I mean it seems like common sense at this point. And this is pointing at most viewers who were baffled by this when it first aired. 21:39 - This is not the Chekhov's gun related stuff however, sometimes butterflies are also a symbol for rebirth or growth. Here in Ruby and Maria's scene, Ruby is LEARNING so it's her way of evolving. Those butterflies are their to enhance the scene rather than drive the story forward. The butterflies in the RWBY-verse are just mostly aesthetics though. They sometimes use the anime way of depicting their surroundings. But western visual storytelling does the same thing to establish what kind of environment they're in but not so much in micro detail as Japanese animation does it (things like Miyazaki/Studio GHIBLI films are an example of close angle shots of trivial things like coffee mugs or writing utensils...etc. It's for the sake of the viewer to be immersed in their world even further. 34:57 - ....Well...yeah..Team SALEM are trying to get the relics (for Salem) so wherever Oz's Scooby Gang goes, it's already assumed it's relic related. That's one consistent thing in RWBY. The relics. Other stuff I wanted to mention has already been discussed by others so yeah, end of V3, we learn about Summer having silver eyes when Qrow first spoke of Legendary Silver-Eyed Warriors. There's some other things you caught that's spot on but I won't point them out specifically for spoilers sake.

Arashi

So, on the off chance that Elijah didn't tell you... Pyrrha's mom was voiced by Pyrrha's VA too. Just to... you know really hammer the loss in a bit more. The song is Forever Fall... Pyrrha's postmortem love song to Juane. ... yay. ;_; As far as Mercury and his dad... well since he was dead before we even met him, we're unlikely to learn unless/until there's some background media put out in the future.

DigitalPirateCAN

I absolutely love Maria, the brutal honesty is refreshing

Jason S

26:35 I'm going to correct you at this point. Ruby mentioned her fight with Cinder at Haven, not Beacon. The second time she used her silver eyes against Cinder. Cinder did have her Grimm arm at that point. It was just hidden to Ruby.

Lavender Onyxheart

if you recall back in vol 3 when they showed the flashback of Cinder attacking Amber and taking part of the Fall Maiden powers, she used a special glove to do so that had a small grimm beetle inside it, that was absorbed into her body when she got that first half; THAT is why the power affected Cinder so much, maiden powers are not affected by silver eyes, this was shown in vol 5 at the Battle of Haven with only Cinder being weakened by the Silver Eyes and not Raven

Jittercritter

I agree to an extent, however the fact that Salem is sentient and capable of creating plans makes it a bit different. Before the Grimm were thought to be a dangerous but disorganized force of endless but *senseless* destruction. The fact that Salem is capable of creating and carrying out actual plans makes her a lot more imposing as an unbeatable foe than the Grimm were previously thought to be.

Vex Valor

Personally I love the Pyrrha statue scene because her death is not forgotten or swept under the rug. She was a member of JNPR and she is still with them all in spirit. I would be way more mad if they didn't bring her up and pay their respects to her because it would have felt like her death held no weight in the story.

Kitsune Kokoro

That drunken hookup at Winter's party was a heck of a twist; I'd never thought about that pairing before, but in retrospect it makes perfect sense. It's a shame it broke up one of Elijah's favorite ships, it's no wonder she was in tears seeing that.

Hotaru Tomoe

She kinda tends to over analyze things to the point of missing or forgetting actual details.

Wootcat

I'll probably get blasted for this, so I will preface by saying I ABSOLUTELY love Elijah's RWBY reactions. Mosco's too, of course! But I am extremely disappointed in her potentially tainting and spoiling the statue reveal by providing the box of tissues. Letting someone know 'something' is going to happen is a spoiler in and of itself. Mosco was prepped to expect something to happen, so she was looking for it. She even knew it had to happen in chapter 9, since nothing tissue-worthy happened in 8. Would she have been more sad than 'sangry' without the clue? She almost certainly would not have paused and ranted at Elijah as much, giving time to diffuse the emotions between pauses. Would her reaction have been different? We'll never know. I still absolutely love both of their RWBY reactions. I just wish these spoilers would stop. And if others get angry at me for this opinion, I truly apologize.

CB Jones

I'd also say for butterflies, in a 3d animation set up they're very simple to model, rig and animate (at least in comparison to every other animal/ insect) as it's really just body and 2 wings, maybe a bit of movement in the legs if you're feeling adventurous. CRWBY have mentioned wanting to add animals because it rounds out and adds life to the world, but most are so intensive to produce to a visually convincing level that they couldn't justify it. Butterflies circumvent that quite nicely so they don't need to be essential to the plot to justify putting them in.

morthasa

"I'm not sad, I'm angry! It's easier to deal with anger! Yeah, I'm Scottish." I have now stuck in my head the idea of a Scottish therapist who teaches their clients to work through their problems by getting angry. But in a constructive, Scottish way.

SauceyRed

Yeah I agree. I don't complain about it because at the end of the day if Mosco's fine with it, then that's it, and it's not a big deal overall (and it doesn't bother me *that* much). But I do kinda wish we get more "authentic" (for lack of a better word) reactions to emotional moments, especially those that come out sort of out of nowhere. Only time I didn't mind at all was the Fall of Beacon due to Mosco's mental state at the time due to IRL circumstances. I don't *think* the reaction would've been too different in this chapter (or previous ones), but as you said, we can't truly know. And they were still good.

SauceyRed

That's amazing lmao

Chris P3

It’s easy to forget about the Grimm beetle. I know I did, and was left wondering how Ruby managed to take out both Cinder’s eye and arm for a while.

Fred Smith

The headturn when she saw the leaf was such perfect comedic timing that I prefer this, ngl.

Wilhelm Hedin

WHy are they always throwing their phones around?! Are they unbreakable? Do they all have lots of spares? Hrmf.

Sweg Money

I agree but I also feel like there is an element of the The Earth is Flat Because it Looks Flat emotional logical fallacy in their response. It feels like this is new information but it’s been there the whole time. There is not a time in recorded history where the Grimm have not been influenced by Salem so the protagonists really don’t know what it would be like if the Grimm were truly uncoordinated. Of course, it would be silly to expect them to think that way after the revelation and especially when they’re grieving and especially when Oz has been implying he does have a plan of some sort.

Rachel Mae

The maple leaf isn't real. It can't hurt you The maple leaf: 🍁

SportySpice

Yeah, I was trying not to scream and point when she spent full minutes discussing if the lighting meant Emerald might be thinking of switching sides, then radio silent when Emerald explicitly questions if they should be doing what they are doing.

Phoenix_mercury

Tbf we don't know what scrolls are made of, maybe it's something super durable or dust reinforced ect

Phoenix_mercury

Im the one gives some decent clues on Merc's relationship with him

Phoenix_mercury

The ship is also likely Tyrian and watts(we know they're going to atlas), the thank you was likely just a general thx not just a specific thx

Dragonrune

Phoenix- I don't think so. Argus is East of Atlas. Salem's domain is West of Atlas. If Tyrian and Watts were/are going to Atlas, they would not fly over Argus.

Dragonrune

Elijah: Your still in Volume six! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Arashi

"Okay, since the Brits are being inconsiderate pricks and are not invading us, today we're going to play this hyper-realistic game of the 13th century when they did. Remember, this is to help."

Stars CM

Jaune found closure before Mosco did.

KellyBunny

Something to remember is that you are watching these volumes without a break. We had to wait a year between them each. Us first time watchers had WAAAYYYYY more time than you did

Liam Skoda

Omg the cereal box lol.

Todd Lucas

I'm 50 (ish)....and I watched all these when they originally released with my students (was teaching at one time), and a lot of my kids were like Elijah and Mosco.... Every time Phyrra was brought back up no matter what...it was always "WHY DO YOU KEEP TORMENTING US WITH THAT?!!?" And...not gonna lie...it still gets me as well.

39

Lmao the scrolls got aura too

lightanddarklove

I’m probably not going to watch many of the edited versions of episodes again once they come out on YouTube but this one I’ll have to make time for because of the back and forth between Mosco and Elijah about the forever fall scene. It was very funny

Vince

Your very first kiss was your first kiss goodbye.

RaisedEyebrow

So... I assume you've forgiven Elijah for not warning you about the Apathy? Or was that a procate conversation we have no business in?

Hollyhock

You sound like an AWESOME teacher

Rixec2

Most shows forget characters they kill after five minutes. RWBY ensures we never forget. XD

Shaky Tail Studios

A shame you missed Tyrian's lines here, they were really good: "Poor boy, all you've ever known is pain and violence and now you're too afraid to leave it" Say what you will about Tyrian but he is perceptive.

Shaky Tail Studios

It is very sad how used to Qrow tuning up shit faced on their doorstep the two are.

Curtis Knapp

Sometimes a Butterfly is just a Butterfly!
