I wouldnt consider Lucien and Molly the same person but it dives into the ship of Theius philosophical questions. Plus possible spoilers but the question arises just from amesensia regardless of possible other factors. Who is one's self? Is it their body or their mind or their personality or their soul or their experiences? Molly has the same body. The same physical mind. The other 2 are very specific and abstract and the experiences we know he doesnt have them all at least.

I stole it from Taliesin Jaffe who described it as that way in one of the characger creation stuff or behind the scenes stuff. He also described it as exploring the nature vs nurture debate. As they got the same nature due to the same body but different nurture or life experiences.

"Death with dignity" is a right I fully agree with. Of course safe guards are needed but that can be figured out. The scene with Essek and his mother was extremely hard to watch even with that stance because of how visceral the act is. The religious aspects also made it extremely uncomfortable and its why I fully understand what Essek did at the end. They tried to manipulate him to convert to the religion and are framing his lack of wisdom as a lack of religious faith. I was heavily disappointed the show will show Essek changing for that reason. I have seen religious people try to use a loved ones' death as a recruiting tool and it is disgusting. I am kinda happy Essek went "yea no you just made me worse".

Really love this storyline. I both disagree with Essek as I do think he needs to accept that its his mother's choice and all but also its a shit move on her part to use it to try to bring him into the faith. Into returning the beacon? Sure. Even without the condition she is under, immortality just feels like a curse to a me.

Worth noting, they would have executed Essek's mother for her illness regardless of her wishes. Sure she was willing, but they also probably killed hundreds of people who didn't want to go for the same thing.

I love this episode so much, it does such a good job of showing why each member of the Mighty Nein needs the group, by showing us how they react when they're on their own. They've known each other for so little time and they're already each others support system.

An interesting part of the pairings is how much the literal table plays a role. They sit in the same seats each time and some of the dynamics is because Marisha and Travis and Sam and Laura (when Ashley wasnt there) just sat right next to each other.

The other thing I find interesting, is that of all the relationships, or even simply potential relationships are concerned.....the only one that seems implicitly "straight", is Fjord and Jester. And even THAT isn't 100% set in stone....we know Jester's mom took appointments with both men and women, but we don't know if Jester goes both ways as well.

If you're interested, re: the music from the intro, it's a synth remix of a piece used in the campaign, but NOT from the campaign's own intro! In the livestreams, it played before the episodes started, during the art slideshow in the intermission, and after the episodes ended. I always loved it, and after so long watching the campaign live, it's really stuck with me since. You're able to give the original a listen without any spoiler risks - no lyrics, no spoilery visuals, nothing like that. It's called "Welcome to Wildemount," and I'd highly recommend listening through at least once!

Especially in the context of the whole reincarnation thing. He doesn't have the benefit of any fuck-ups in previous lives to draw on. So in terms of how long a drow can live in a single life? He's barely an adult. In terms of the total potential life he could have? He's still a baby. So he's starting off REAL strong.

Love the reaction! In regards to Wisdom for Essek, I feel like "common sense" is not the correct term, more so it's the ability to read people or read the environment. I've seen some folks describe it as "street smarts."

I'm a veterinarian so I feel like I have a very similar view you do in regards to being able to choose to be "put to sleep," because it's such a common thing we do for our pets. Euthanasia literally means "good death" in Greek, and I feel like it can often be our final gift to our pets to let them pass with dignity and without suffering, and so it feels weird to me for it to not be an option for people (with the proper precautions in place).

A+ matching outfits. No notes. ... Well that opening was fucking gruesome. I had expected you to nope all the way out of the room after the executioner (deliberately) botched the beheading and they didn't cut away. Elijah would have had to lure you out from under the couch with Bees' Schnees fanart to get you to finish the recording. Some sharp eyed viewers think they saw Owl House plushies in the background of The Invulnerable Vagrant. Eda and Eberwolf, behind Caleb on screen right. I don't know how it is in Drow culture, but in Trill culture (Star Trek), joined Trills are forbidden from reconnecting with past lovers. Which, naturally, means there's an episode where that happens. And it gave us one of the hottest (only?) on screen Sapphic kisses in the 90s. But with the Trill, each host is a "new" life; I don't think we know what the rules are for the Drow. Writer A: "What should we cut to after Essek sacrifices his mother?" Writer B: "Sapphic make-out sesh in the alley?" Writer A: "Fucking brilliant!" Beau must have rolled a one on her wisdom check because she could have said, "well, why don't you give me a bath..." The "pair up two characters and see how they bounce off each other" stories are some of the best episodes. Legends of Tomorrow did it a lot and it works so well. Especially in the later seasons as the mix of the crew gets weirder.

One of my favorite platonic relationship between a male and female character in the MN has to be Brjeaus (Beau and Fjord) - two that come close are Nott and Caleb (but they have a specific mother-son relationship), the Tieflings (Jester and Molly) - partially because of a very wholesome „powerdinamic" they find themselfs in, that no joke comes up in smalltalks later.... When they are purely honest with each other.

This brings up an interesting moral dilemma. We have no information on if the condition can spread inside the beacon (just mentioning this to cut off using this what if as a justification). But I am not sure that "execution" isnt the right way to go here. What type of life and future life is it to have an uncontrolled memory bleed? As far as I am aware, reincarnation doesnt fix the issue. I don't think its wrong to take this as a sign that even members of the luxon have a limited time and a sign that times up. I do think a better method can be done for how to handle someone in this condition though. Just spit balling, I think a hospice type situation far away from any beacons (the reason the execution requires a journey is to avoid the soul getting back into a beacon) so those who wish cam live out their final life but also be cared for. Tyrphos does have a lot of overlap with dementia though and leople with dementia can be a danger to both themselves and others. If someone has a flash back to a war and starts fighting in it during the present day it cam be a problem for example and I dont think its a big leap to think its those reasons the condition leads to execution.

Of everything that happened in this episode, I want to express my appreciation for the bathhouse scene. Not just the lore drop and budding friendship between Fjord and Beau. But that the Puritanical roots of The States has taught our culture to equate "naked" to "sex". That this wasn't awkward and the two were quite comfortable around eachother was... refreshing?

I Don't think I've ever seen Mosco THIS invested in a hetero relationship. And I agree, I love the chemistry and adorable slow burn. Their VAs being an actual couple probably helps. Also, as soon as I saw that back alley scene, I knew she'd go nuts, and it was better than I'd hoped.

The old "what's the difference between a cult or religion" is a old one. There are some standards there that wouldnt make most religions a cult. Depends on exactly how you define both religion and cult though, both terms are extremely hard to define in a consistent way.

It's worth noting that Deirta would've been executed whether she was willing or not. Even still, I could never support putting a sapient being to sleep, let alone having a celebration for it. Mercy killing is one thing, but medically assisted suicide is completely unethical, and feels selfish to those who love you.

I agree with the “Letting someone chose if they want their life to end if they are in extreme pain or suffering a terminal illness” I do not agree with making it into a ritual in which you volunteer a family member to execute you with them having no say in the matter. As someone who watched the campaign this is the moment that truely made me feel sorry for Essek. He is a young soul that got in over his head going against an honestly morally grey religious dynasty. The empire may be evil buu the dynasty is not the “Good” to the Empire’s “Bad” they are also guilty of hypocrisy and corruption.

In Canada, we have a Medical Assistance in Death option for individuals with terminal conditions facing a high degree of suffering. I believe it is an important dignity to give people, the ability to choose to pass in peace. However it should be said that the program is rife with controversy, particularly in regards to the fact that it may soon be also available for people who suffer solely from mental illness (currently it is for terminal physical illness or a combination of the two). There are concerns that this may further weaken the available support for suicidal individuals, but I'm neither a doctor or a policymaker so I don't know how much of that concern is valid.

Along with having lower wisdom, you have to remember that he’s only about 120 in dark elf years which means he’s only about early 20s maturity wise. Then you add on the extra cultural immaturity of him being on his first life and you realize how incredibly naïve Essex is. His hyper intelligence only complicates his lack of wisdom. Nevertheless, saving your best friend, then having that action be the catalyst that forces you to ritualistically kill your mother, after everything he’s done to try to save her… Poor boy is just starting to crash out.
