It is time 😎

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

Also, it's worth noting at this point that everything in the episode "Stealing From the Elderly" right up through the end of "A New Approach" has all happened in ONE DAY. No wonder the kids are exhausted.

AEON_42

Please watch Volume 6 intro

Ann_Temki

AND THUS BEST GIRL RETURNS

DizzyDreamz

this is what I've been waiting for. ALSO I didn't even think realize my profile picture was a spoiler so hopefully not being active avoided it lmao my discord pic is the same so now I can join the discord 😂

Elias Cristerna

Ah yes the first episode with Qrow's new VA. It's good to know when they hired Jason Liebrecht, they hired someone with prior experience playing a recovering alcoholic bird-man as he was my boy Mordecai the Hunter from the Borderlands franchise (specifically from Borderlands 2 onwards).

morthasa

[Mod] This is spoilery since it’s an implication please remove it

[Mod] Asking as a moderator for Mosco

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

We first saw Ruby split and move around an object in her Character Short before volume 4.

Phoenix_mercury

Yeah people need to be made aware of the timeline for this volume 👀

Nurydian

Question, while Wee Lass be reacting to the first RWBY/DC crossover which by the canon happens some time during these first few episodes.

TheLesbianTrout

Elijah has mentioned in her video that they are going to try and watch the specials together. To avoid some spoilers it would have to be after Mosco watches Vol. 9

BGTitan

Ep 1: They also showed off an unfinished version of the fight scene for this episode and it was still so cool! Only got better when the volume officially premiered, of course, but that shot where we just follow Ruby as she speeds forward and uses her scythe to change direction and oh my god the choreography has come so far since V4. Not Monty style, but they’ve definitely found their own groove by this point. This is also the first time we get to hear Qrow's new VA. I won't say anything about all that drama but I do think Jason Liebrecht does a fantastic job. The only real difference is that his voice sounds clearer, which I actually like. Pietro!!! Sweet man!!! His little pink bow that matches Penny!!! Our very own Gephetto (sp?). The Ace Ops.... Like Aesops Fables! Ep 2: WINTER!!!! EVERYONE SHUT UP MY QUEEN IS HERE!!!!! Ironwood: I wanna protect the kingdom. Also Ironwood: Didn't have the fucking code updated in Mantle so that it's not easy to hack into! Listen, I'm not even an IT person but even I know that if you update your stuff, every piece of connected equipment needs to be updated or you leave a backdoor into system wide open! UGH!! Especially to someone like Watts who knows the code!!! Raven called him a 'disgraced Atlesian scientist' back in V5.

Celly

1) Since you even watched the last post-credit scene in this reaction, you should be told that this is the first Volume without a post-credit. This and Volume 9. 2( The Volume 7 intro not only would have spoiled Penny, but it spoils even more. Yep wait for quite a while before watching that in this volume. 3) You have sort of 'met' Pietro. When Penny died in Volume 3, the camera switched to behind Pietro gripping onto his chair, presumably in Atlas, while watching the fight between Penny and Pyrhha. You saw his bald head from behind.

Albedo12

When the writers came up with Ace Ops / Aesop's they must have shit themselves with delight at how good that is.

MtVesuvius

The intro does *not* spoil Penny. The intro plays after she appears in chapter 1.

Suplee215

Your brain trying to figure out who is Pietro's daughter was so amusing

Ann_Temki

I’m glad you mentioned Blake’s “oh boy here we go” sigh because it’s one of my favourite little voice acting bits

Nurydian

Will not While, hey I get all the 'W' question starters mixed up sometimes

Robert Hunter

Mosco, welcome to the start of rather intense volumes. Prepare yourself for a ride you'll never forget!

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

It's worth noting, though, that Vol. 7 was probably the first time the intro to the upcoming volume of RWBY was NOT shown at RTX — specifically because Penny is in it

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

It really tells you what Ironwood considers "the kingdom", doesn't it?

Ann_Temki

I can’t wait for you to get to the part in v8 when Cinder uses her Grimm arm to control Penny into killing Yang and then blowing up Atlas which causes them to end up in a wonderland on the moon

Ryan

Wrong. She's allergic to peanuts. The queen of death will be brought down by some fucking legumes.

Ryan

Chapter 1: I love the non-verbal exposition as we get introduced to Mantel. Show, don't tell, at its finest. And Mosco's sharp eyes caught all of it. Hah! Pietro has a whale model on his bookshelves. Didn't notice that before... Pietro: "My daughter's told me so much about you." Mosco: "Daughter?" (woman doing math meme) Penny: "Salutations!" Mosco: "OH MY GOD SHE'S BACK!" Chapter 2: Meanwhile, we get verbal exposition from Patchy Sideburns. Sometimes you just need a good info dump. And then a power point presentation from Jimmy Fullbeard. So... you know how Mosco always says "never explain the plan. If you explain the plan it won't work." They just explained the plan. In great detail. But I'm sure it will work. This time. Is this the first time Ruby has lied in the whole series? I think it is... Jimmy: (hugs Qrow) Mosco: (waves the pride flag) Blake: "Wrong tree..." ---- Spoilers for season nine? YOU CAN'T KNOW YET! YOU'RE ONLY IN VOLUME SIX!

39

I loooove that you actually GET what went down between Ironwood and the group. This volume is one of my absolute favorites and I think you'll really enjoy it based on this reaction <3

Taigan

Watching Mosco try to figure out who The Daughter was was delicious! I was giggling the whole time. Then her reaction to Penny’s return. ❤️ Mosco’s predictions of what’s to come were an interesting mix of highly accurate and completely off.

Zirkumflex

Best girl returns and we get introduced to Atlas and Mantle and how both sides see the divide in the kingdom. As for spoilers for Volume 9, real or imagined: Vore!

CrowOfAFeather

I think you can watch the V6 intro now. There was no need to wait until the end of the volume, but it's definitely safe now. Same with V7, you can watch it after chapter 3-4. Thing is that Ruby is also concerned about Ironwood spiralling since he's already not well mentally, and they have suffered one betrayal from Lionheart who was also part of Ozpin's inner circle like Ironwood, Glynda, Qrow, and the Headmaster of Shade Academy in Vacuo. They don't want to just blindly trust him like they did with Lionheart. Funny how you immediately hate the Ace Ops and find them annoying, yet Neo is totally fine lol They have nice designs tho, sure. The fact that the council didn't bother to update the security codes for Mantle is so damn telling how little they care about the people. They care for the people literally in the City of Atlas, but not the rest of the kingdom, but are still happy to keep them in line and work in the mines etc.

Gihellcy

OUR FAVORITE ANDROID POOKIE IS BACK !! \o/ Gosh I fcking love volume 7, I think you'll have a blast watching it ! ~~

SQX Barto

"She is back!" Elijah - meme face :D She talks about Penny - meme face on me too :D "It's just like in Beacon again." - khm... :D

Cali Jester

Shocked Mosco didn't catch the animation change and Qrow's new VA.

CB Jones

Ruby has a few concerns about Ironwood but a big one is likely what was demonstrated by the Ace Ops. There were Grimm running through the streets of Mantle, there were more grimm elsewhere in the city that Penny had just flown off to fight. And while monsters run through the streets presenting a real and serious danger to civilian lives Ironwood's most elite huntsmen were sent to arrest the people who were actually fighting the grimm. Hell, Qrow identified himself as a licenced Huntsman, putting his fighting against the grimm as very much within his job, and was ignored and locked up. Those are some pretty warped priorities. In any case this is a fantastic volume and one with so many little or obscured details that reward multiple watch-throughs. Enjoy!

Phoenix_mercury

Also her immediate dislike of elm just like early Nora🤣

Dayash

Did she? I thought she forgot to do it on the vol 6 finale :(

bwp108

As if the return of Penny wasn't enough of a treat, we get the introduction of a new main character. Forest (with one r that's very important) is here to transform RWBY into FRWBY. Welcome to the show, the GOAT is here.

Jittercritter

“I always wanted bunk beds as a kid” And it’s not even just the trivial stuff, but what it represents too. If kids have bunk beds it means they share a room. The fact that Weiss wanted bunk beds means she actively wanted to be closer to her siblings as a kid. With the hindsight of how cold her family is, especially how estranged her relationship with her little brother is, that seemingly trivial desire hits WAY harder. Not to mention the fact that she was placed in a team with two sisters who happen to be extremely close, which would have just rubbed salt on the wound.

Isadora

Of course the winter maiden is no spring chicken, she's a winter chicken! Aha...

Jyoster

Welcome to Atlas, Mosco. It's a bit cold, both the weather and its people, but there's some warm places to stay at with some nice company. Much like Penny said, it does feel like Beacon with how whimsy these episodes have been, part of that former Vale charm back in the first 3 volumes. Let's hope it's not a complete carbon copy of Beacon...

Jittercritter

I absolutely love how observant you were in these episodes!! I think yours might end up being my favorite reactions to the Atlas arc, which is exciting because it’s my favorite arc of the show

May

Love that you couldn’t figure out Penny was the daughter. It only makes the reaction that much better lol. Can’t say I understand the immediate dislike of the Ace ops during their introduction though. They did steal a ship ya know. I mean, we know they’re the protagonists of the series, but how’s the Ace ops supposed to know that? A stolen ship is kinda important to take note of, after all Neo and Cinder are also going to Atlas in a stolen ship as we saw. So naturally, yeah they should probably detain them and take them to Ironwood. If they aren’t a threat they’ll find out and they can be released. It’s just basic safety precautions. They weren’t violent or rude about it either, so ya know better than the American police already.

Sarah Stephens

I have never taken the time to read that sign in atlas academy. Guess i just figured they were probably nothing but fun to see they put actual work into them

NatMcK7

[Mod] Expectation spoilers are still spoilers please delete this

Cinder's Apologist

never read it either (kinda want to now) but it's always nice to recognize the level of detail the animators put into seemingly inconsequential things like that. clearly they gotta have some fun - as well as work in tiny clues to things happening later on

Suplee215

Rewatching the daughter scene. Yes, faunus can have kids with humans (as shown in one of the world of remant episodes). Faunus plus human produce a faunus it seems.

Arashi

Hi Penny! Nice to see your older now. Oh, and I suppose hi to the Ace Ops too. Or.. you know... Aesop's. Probably some Fables about them. :p For the Volume Opening, you can probably watch it after chapter five, six if you really want to be cautious. Penny is the only 'big' character reveal, most everyone else you (should) already know was in the Kingdom of Atlas. Nice name drop of Robyn Hill and her Happy Huntresses. Do you think they might be merry? Oh, would they have men? Would those Men be Merry with Robyn? Do you suppose Robyn has a Hood with her outfit? So many questions... that I know the answer to already but still! Yeah, Ruby choosing to hide things didn't sit too well with the FNDM, even now I'm on the side that open and clear communication from the start is better. Particularly since there's a pretty big, immortal, hole in James' plan that RWBY and ORNJ know about. The truth is painful, but truth after letting lies fester... worse. I more or less get why they hid things, but I still just feel it was done to be 'drama for the sake of drama' in storyboarding. No, no. Qrow gets a pride flag elsewhere. Still interesting that you don't like 'leader boy' and do like 'Hare'. "It'll be Just Like Beacon Again!"

Cinder's Apologist

welcome to Atlas! this was the first volume that I watched live as it was released, so it holds a special place in my heart as a RWBY fan. the Piltover and Zaun thing really is the best way to quickly summarize the dynamic in this kingdom for anyone who is remotely familiar with Arcane. it's not an exact parallel but it's close enough. I will add that as an American, Atlas is also a nod to American society... CRWBY has confirmed as much at one point. so... take that as you will. I know you've developed a healthy amount of skepticism for new characters and not trusting in them right away, which is understandable... and fitting for what is to come. but as for Ruby not telling Ironwood the truth, let me leave a gentle reminder: remember Lionheart? the headmaster at Haven? the kids made the trek to Haven to try and stop the bad guys, and since they trusted Ozpin, they figured they could also trust the other headmasters. NOPE! they learn the hard way that Lionheart has been an informant for Salem for a very, very long time; and they nearly get their asses handed to them after walking straight into an ambush. not to mention the whole "Ozpin did not tell us a LOT OF THINGS" in the last volume, so the kids are not super keen to just open up to anyone now. as Ironwood said, he doesn't give off super trustworthy vibes right now, so can't fault the kids for being hesitant! I find it so funny that you didn't figure out Pietro was Penny's father - Pietro Polendina, by the way. if I recall correctly, Elijah figured that out almost as soon as she heard "My daughter has told me so much about you" - the pink bowtie tipped her off, I believe. also Team Coco LMAOOOOO. but in fairness, Coco has that swagger, and at least her team name doesn't sound exactly like her own name. *cough TEAM SSSN cough* OH. it's also very telling how you are not a Bumbleby fan like Elijah is, because she was all over every little Blake & Yang moment in these two episodes XD I know Freezerburn is your main fix (which is valid! it's a good ship!) glad to hear you are into the politics angle because yes, this volume especially will be more political than the ones before. personally, I found that to be fascinating and intriguing as well as super fitting for the kind of problems the kids are about to face in Atlas - and in Mantle.

Ryan

"Thaw the chicken."

Phoenix_mercury

yeah with all *her* skeptisism over characters i was a tad surprised about her being surprised the group didnt tellIW everything after 1. everything with leo 2. the reception they received and 3. then seeing how IW is coping(or not) with what he currently has

Phoenix_mercury

imo it makes sense not to immedietly tell IW *everything* after 1. everything with leo 2. the reception they received and 3. then seeing how IW is coping(or not) with what he currently has let alone more

Phoenix_mercury

also the WOR about faunus goes over it lol

Suplee215

Thanks forgot what they were called

Phoenix_mercury

the only hiccup is not varifying when Qrow says hes a huntsman(doubt itd be hard 2 check) but otherwise yeah

Cinder's Apologist

agreed, it is a tad surprising. let's see how it unfolds

LaviPastelQueen

Woo hoo welcome too vol 7 so excited!! Definitely one of my fav vols

Vince

1:01:00 HIS GOVERNMENT NAME IS 👏 TAIYANG WHOLE TEAM XIAO LONG 👏

J.C Productions

i beg you to leave the full uncut period of thought after Pietro says "my daughter's told me so much about you", and to have a timer edited in for how long it was going on for

May

Also istg she better take back everything she said about Clover 😭

May

I mean it doesn’t spoil Penny, and uh what else does it spoil? I thought vol 7 intro was like the least spoilery intro (even though I personally don’t consider any intros as spoilers)

May

I mean Lionheart is pretty different as they didn’t know him at all (aside from Qrow), whereas they’re already more familiar with Ironwood. Not to mention his two trusted colleagues are Winter and Penny which are also people they already know and trust. Anyway I don’t think it’s that she doesn’t understand why she’s not telling him, it’s the whether that’s the right choice that’s she’s skeptical of. Because ultimately it’s immoral no matter how you look at it. Unlike Lionheart, Ironwood actually has a clear plan right now. He’s risking a lot to fight Salem. Anyone that’s risking so much, including their life, deserves to know exactly what they’re fighting. It’s similar to having a soldier go to war without telling them who they’re fighting or why. This is definitely intentionally supposed to show some hypocrisy on Ruby’s part, since they are doing exactly what they are mad at Ozpin for. Which should help them understand Ozpin perspective and eventually forgive him. Ultimately how Ironwood may react to such information doesn’t really change the morality of it. Keeping the truth from him could end up being the right or wrong choice depending on how things go, but hiding the truth will always be the immoral decision even if they end up being right in distrusting him. That’s what’s interesting about this volume. It heavily centers on morality and how the best choice might not be the morally right one, but at the same time sometimes doing the morally right thing is better than doing immoral things even if it does give you a better end result. She’s skeptical of Ironwood, but also skeptical of the decision to keep the truth at the same time as doing that can easily backfire because if he learns the truth it would give him a reason to distrust team rwby and lead to conflict.

May

Well they have Penny to deal with the Grimm in mantle. They did steal a ship. That’s so hugely important. Neo and Cinder are coming in a stolen ship, so yes, sending the Ace ops to check out and detain people that seemingly stole a ship is going to be a huge priority. Stoping Salems people from getting into Atlas is WAY more crucial than stopping a few Grimm that they have others to deal with. Qrow saying he’s a huntsman is completely meaningless even if they see his license. Being a huntsman doesn’t mean they can’t be bad guys. It doesn’t mean they can break the law. Just like police shouldn’t be able to commit crimes without punishment, neither can huntsman. You can’t kill somebody, then save someone else and have it even out so you don’t get arrested lol. So I mean yeah, they can’t just come in a stolen ship, kill some Grimm that Penny would’ve dealt with anyway, and have the former action be completely ignored.

James Pagel

Ok to be fair they only capture qrow when he pulled his weapon out

Mare

Consider something that happens in episode 3. But then again maybe she has seen some designs floating around. Not that it's that much of a big deal but the way that some reactors spoil themselves accidentally by looking up info (like the way Elijah and Moscow both spoiled themselves by learning what Summer's weapon was LOL). Either way, she's good watching it after ep 3

CB Jones

So my main point was that Ironwood is prioritising the enforcement of laws in Mantle over the lives and safety of it's people, Pietro is surprised that the Ace-Ops are even present in Mantle so we can assume they don't bother to protect it. And as much as I love Penny and as strong as she is the minutes that she took to arrive on scene could well have been fatal for the people of Mantle if Ruby & co hadn't intervened. One girl is not sufficient protection for a city, let alone one with holes in its walls, no matter how powerful or determined she may be. But anyway let's breakdown the Ace Ops arrest! "We heard a report of an unauthorised ship making an unauthoried landing followed by unauthorised weapons use by unlicenced huntsment." While, yes, RWBY stole the ship initially Cordovin actually did authorise them to take it before they left, though this is a quibble, and the landing was unauthorised. But it's worth pointing out that the Ace Ops don't seem to have any evidence this had anything to do with RWBY, the only footage we're shown them having is the shot of Blake fighting, they're just guessing given the proximity. They're violently arresting people for being NEAR the scene of the crime. Which matters because it means the last 2 charges are the only ones they have any evidence of and they're both false. Qrow is a fully licensed huntsman and presumably also has a teaching license. The rest have student licenses and we know from Beacon that students are explicitly allowed to carry weapons and fight grimm, especially when supervised by a teacher. And the idea of fighting to protect yourselves or others from grimm, who will 100% kill you if they can, being "unautorised weapons use" is either a make-believe charge or an extremely dark precedent that Altas would rather the people of Mantle die quietly than protect themselves. So why the arrest? Team RWBY are taken straight to Ironwood who is not surprised to see them and has footage of them fighting on his scroll already. Given that these are all people he's directly interacted with them it's clear that, while he may have dispatched them for the unautorised ship, by the time of the arrest he, and almost certainly Clover, knew exactly who they were. Considering this the arrest reads more like a power play, putting them in a more vulnerable position so his later kindness feels more impactful. Taking the relic so he can acertain whether or not it's useful before deciding whether or not to keep it. It's speculative but hardly out of character for a man so desperate to control everything. And we saw back in Vol2 that Ironwood isn't above being underhanded if it means he gets his way. And this is a side thing but Neo and Cinder stealing a ship isn't really relevant to Ironwood's actions given that they are not caught entering the kingdom (it's not even really clear if they arrived before or after RWBY). Tyrian and Watts seem to have also arrived unnoticed, so Ironwood is acting only on suspicion, not any sort of prior event.

Vex Valor

I don't think you reacted to the volume 6 intro at any point. Not reacting to volume 7's intro right away I agree with since it has some major spoilers.

RaisedEyebrow

Fun fact: The Ace Ops are a play on Aesop's Fables.

Zora Brightwood

I think we need to add Mosco to that group of child of Apollo like Danny Motta bc omg what she said is 🤯

TheRavenWanderer

When the doc mentioned his daughter, my initial very short-lived theory was that he was referring to Ciel Soleil. That girl in blue that Penny was with back in the tournament. She seemed smart, knows a lot of things, and definitely works for Atlas more than just as a student. It's a shame she never got any more screen time after that even when the show is set in Atlas already.

LikeCat

Yes... Given your name/ this comment in particular have watched ANY of Arnold (Murderofbirds)'s reactions?

EmberPanther

I absolutely love that you and Elijah have both mentioned Mattable’s RWBY reactions! Also, is anyone really surprised about Mosco not liking the head Ace Op? 🤣

TheRavenWanderer

I have actually. It's been a long time however but it was quite a ride. He's right up there with Puns of Damage in terms of RWBY reactions though it's a shame Puns never got to react to Vol 9.

Konrad Dunbar

you're finally at my favorite volume for numerous reasons!! :D thank you for suggesting morgan's reactions! I'm having a great time! Ruby's been doing the split at least since the volume 4 trailer BUT it's pretty subconscious so far. your reaction to that reveal was FANTASTIC and well worth the wait lol a lot of people really like Robyn and Winter together as a will-they-won't-they couple or even funnier exes lol, and it's calle Snowbyrd! during the wait between six and seven, the FNDM at the time exploded with what if art and fics of RWBYJNR's time in mantle!

Geass

I suspect that Salem thought that Oz would be gone longer than he was. Leo seemed surprised he had already reincarnated.

TheyWereMarried

Of course she wouldn't notice the Bumbleby moments 😆

SauceyRed

Man, reading this has me wishing that I had kept up with the fandom back when I was watching the show as it was airing, would love to see all the what-if art. I suppose I could try to go on Twitter and search for #rwby and filter by dates.

Rixec2

Your reactions this volume are bound to be interesting. ^_^

A G

This is the season that I notice more Bee’s Schnees thrown into the mix frame wise 😅 (I do love several ships, but that has been my fav since I saw it)

Shaky Tail Studios

Worth noting the Ace-Ops had zero fucking clue RWBY & co were tied to the stolen airship because if they did they'd have arrested Maria too. Also I find it very interesting how Penny is so jovial but Ruby is clearly trying to grapple with a LOT of emotions and has zero time to do so.

Shaky Tail Studios

Ironwood: I need my military protecting my people. Mantle: We are not really being protected my dude. Ironwood: Semantics.

Shaky Tail Studios

The fact James's words (Without the tone) are actually very cold but his tone is warm is why Oscar reacted the way he did. It is a really clever detail.

Shaky Tail Studios

Watts: As usual the code wasn't updated in Mantle. Keep that in mind, for all Ironwood's high minded words the reality on the ground is much less pleasant.

Vegvisir92

Christ....the ops hate was a bit much here.....

marnacles

I love how mosco didn’t guess Penny at ALL

John J Ronald

Notice when the head guy mentioned "unlicensed huntsmen", Maria does a 180 and starts to walk away from the whole scene.

John J Ronald

So I saw RWBY before watching Arcane, but I've always likened Atlas to a high tech version of Wilhelmine Germany, itself highly technologically advanced for its day, but swaggering and arrogant. Political parties are allowed, there is civilian government, but the government is autocratic and militarist. The division between Atlas & Mantle is like the relative positions of St. Louis (MO) and East St. Louis (IL)....or Manhattan (Atlas) and the other poorer boroughs of New York City like Brooklyn and the Bronx (Mantle). Rough analogies, not perfect, but give you a general idea. Or the relative positions of England and Scotland in the UK in terms of power & influence and prosperity....the dust mines all located in Mantle (Scotland), etc.

Willoak

funny youre moaning about sound haha, when youre several decibels higher than the what you’re reacting too :') its like youre screaming and the characters whispering. veyr hard to listen to espcially on this set up when you at your partners place. however i will power through :) as still enjoy your reactions and over thinking :')

Willoak

this is why ive been on ozpins side with keep secrets and half truths, ruby in this episode copying his lies shows why ozpin kept a lot of things close to his chest. because even those you trust may cause more problems and it can be very hard to know how people would react to the full truth.
