That scene with Anne and Sprig is so bittersweet. It’s so well written because it shows how two people can feel different feelings of loss and grief and missing someone they love and they still be there for each other. 💚

Joey Quixote

"Little Frogtown" "Forget it, Hop Pop." They warned off the detective. "It's Little Frogtown." -Fucking LOVE the mug. -The title is a play on both the neighborhood in New York known as Little Italy, and the 1973 detective film "Chinatown". -Hop Pop sees something that looks like blood and immediately tastes it. Gross. -Anne full-on threatened to eat a child. Don't get between a girl and her videogames. "Hopping Mall" This... 🥺🥹 This truly is... (*inconsolable sobbing*) The Funny Frog Show... 😭😭😭 -Loved the fact that, unbidden, you opened the reaction with a Mom story. -Just offscreen is Hop Topic's sister store for the plus-sized amphibian; Toad-id. ... like... like Torrid?...not my best work. -The emotional sucker punch at the end... Anne missing her mom got me misty. Sprig telling Anne his mom died before he knew her, took the wind out of my sails. Anne being big sister and crying with her little frog brother, I broke. The scene gets me every time. -I appreciate that we took time to establish that our protagonist misses her home and family. Too many shows where the kid gets whisked away to a magical world, they might mention this fear early on, but it's immediately dismissed. Even Luz from The Owl House was more concerned about her mother being upset with her than actually missing her home. Anne misses home. She misses her mom. Bold adventurer or not, she's a homesick kid at the end of the day. -Frog ages in this show are... nebulous. Sprig is 10, which puts him at 5 at the youngest when his mother passed. Most kids start developing memories at 3-4 years of age. Maybe Sprig was a late bloomer.

The sprig scene of him talking about his mum always makes me cry

Hopping Mall is one of my favorite episodes in season 2 and the whole show for that matter! I love all the explorations of the roles mothers play in the lives of the characters. That ending scene always gets me and the feels! And then they play a more emotional version of the outro, ah my heart!!

Elias Cristerna

32:07 I'm pretty sure that the animatiors were just being cute and made Anne and Sprig pull off a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate style counterattack and KO.

Charlie Odinoco

wait... I had forgotten It's this episode isn't it, the one where everyone cries at the end

Michael W

Definitely. Owl House:Pokémon:::Amphibia:Nintendo

Marcy Wu

I knew I was going to cry today when I realized Hopping Mall was next. Both the scene at the end and Priscilla talking about her mom get me every time. Little Frogtown is definitely a good episode but Hopping Mall is incredible. Edit: Just looked at what episodes are next and those ones are pretty good too. Season 2 was personally my favorite season and the favorite of a lot of others.

BGTitan

Yeah, Hopping Mall really lured us into a false sense of security and then hit us with the one two KO knockout at the end! That scene still makes me cry!

Geass

I didn't realize Neopets was so involved. I've never looked into them.

Michael W

Yep it’s that one.

Ashley Haas

Love ‘Hopping Mall’ such a sweet tear jerker of an episode. But man when I saw Pricilla the killer the first time watching loudly shouted “hot”.

Henkotron

Ooof not me getting spoilered for RWBY in an Amphibia Reaction :,(

armadillo_arts

mosco picked the perfect time to start an episode with such a sweet mom story lmao hopping mall is sometimes referred to as the “perfect” amphibia episode. not the best, but the most effective mix of everything the show has to offer in one. you’ve got the one off adventure, the humor, the connection between the characters, the display of anne’s growth and emotional depth, and the Total Gut Punch. it’s so well done

Rixec2

Yep. Still makes me cry. And regarding your question on age, Sprig is 10 and Polly is 5. So, if we go by the assumption they lost their mom right after Polly was born, Sprig would have been around 5 or 6 himself. He started developing, but it is still a really young age and memories can go fast.

Michael W

Little Frogtown Distracted driving is dangerous HP! I know the pain of losing a favorite sandwich place. RIP Captain Nemo’s Steak Subs. Are they going Noir? THEY ARE GOING NOIR WOO HOO! Anne you are in the right but this isn’t a fight a human and two frogs are going to win in a city run by Newts. I’m a farmer….pharmaceutical executive. Decent escape Anne scaring the piss out of that kid with a FAFO moment. “Have you ever killed a man Hop Pop?” We have a definite answer now. Sal with some good wisdom. “I think Hop Pop’s broken.” “Help me o Frog!” Hopping Mall. 2 Coppers? HP I can’t get a soda for that. You have to be careful what you tell Polly. “I’ll have to get an item for Ivy. Since we are an item!” Our boy is smitten When I saw the look a Sprig’s face when Anne mentioned her mom I should have known something was up. Quit swinging the staff buddy. Anime references are all over this show. Priscilla tha Killa and her daughter Pearl. Yes there’s a gap. I thought Anne might use a dirty trick when she found out about the injured tail. Glad she didn’t. What kind of psych ops did Polly use to get that bucket and snail? Actually I don’t want to know. We’ve seen a Mario Kart reference and now a Smash Bros. Nintendo for the win The scene between Anne and Priscilla 🥲❤️♥️ Of course HP used the card, and yes TMI. That last scene, what a hard right turn. Anne embracing Sprig to let him know that yes you can miss your mom even if you don’t remember her was heartbreaking. ❤️‍🩹 It cemented Anne as my favorite character. Of everyone in this show she would be the person I would most want as a friend and confidant.

Phoenix_mercury

In a way Luz being worried about her mom being upset with her Vs missing her showed her pov of how she worried her mom was gonna react to learning everything which for a teen took priority over missing that person, like my current examples is literally my indoor cat is missing but I'm more worried for his safety than just I miss him, when I moved into my grandparents and he was with my parents for a few week I knew he was safe so my main thing was "I miss my boy" but currently I'm scared for his safety so that's my priority atm

Joey Quixote

I suppose the other big difference is Luz *chose" The Boiling Isles. Anne did not come to Amphibia by choice. Luz was concerned what her mother would think but (in S1) could go back whenever she pleased. Anne never had that option.

RaisedEyebrow

Just a fun little FYI, the black bars coming from above and below were out in so that movies shown on a wide theater screen could fully fit onto a smaller square art TV at home. It's called "letterboxing," since it looks like you're watching a movie through a mail slot. And it's now become its own cinematic device. My favorite use in recent indy animation was in Lackadaisy, during the action sequence. More specificaly, when the letterbox went AWAY when Mordecai chose not to take his shot, subtly relieving the tension from the scene! And Priscilla is easily one of my favorite characters! Every detail in this episode makes me want to know MORE!

Vex Valor

Polly is 5 (don't think it's ever stated in the show) and Sprig is 10 (was stated in season 1). The frog life stages extend for years unlike actual frogs since their life expectancy has been stretched out to match a human's. I have been excited for you to get to this episode because of this sudden drop on what happened to Sprig's parents is never brought up or acknowledged in the show up until now and it's so sweet how Sprig helps Anne find the perfect gift for her mom while thinking about how he can barely remember his mom.

Michael W

I remember Hop Pop calling himself a crisp 68 so it looks like their lifespans are similar to humans.

Enchanted_Echo

Hopping Mall is personally my favorite episode of Amphibia, with the fun story, fin frog puns/humor and just like with Owl House with "Reaching Out" both of them did an absolute job of hitting me in the feels and I very much enjoy the serious episodes. I can especially relate with in real life events recently and though some areas where foreshadowed in the episode with the butterflies and the ending for the last few minutes really meant a lot and have me a bigger appreciation for Spranne against the world. 💙

therewashuman

Polly is actually older than sprig from time travel you will see

TNR_Dragon

13:20 thats a smash bros reference

Wee Lass Reacts

RWBY is a really old show and I've been reacting to it for over a year now! So if you really want to watch the show I suggest you DO because it's sorta assumed that other media I am watching on my channel will be discussed in other reactions. Especially ones i've reacted to for so long. Thankfully it isn't a big spoiler, the whole of RWBY starts the trailer with her at her mothers grave. So if you want to avoid more spoilers I would get onto watching it ASAP.

Henkotron

I have already started watching it. I got to Volume 7 or 8. I also watched your reactions until the beginning of Volume 4 I think. It is such a good show. Maybe I take this as motivation to continue as I have been on a hiatus of continuing for a while

Pikagirl

I knew we were getting this scene at the end, but it still made me cry

JakeArtist13

The ending scene was the first scene in this show that actually made me cry, and really made me realize how much I actually love this show

Sydney Horton

It's believed that Polly was an egg when their parents died. I got nothing else to say. Just gonna cry cause last year I lost my great aunt, and she was my grandmother's twin sister. She died from a stroke and had a week or two of living in a different timeline before she passed. I only got a taste of that pain when your loved one can't remember. You speaking on how we take our elders for granted while they're still sound of mind just gave me a breakdown. Noone chooses when they go, but it made me feel so selfish when the week before the stroke I begged her to stay. Her sister couldn't, and I thought maybe when she went she would tell Gram about me starting my adult life. I tried to keep her here. I keep hating myself for it. I don't know what to do. Is it parasocial that I kinda look to Moscoe and the crew sometimes?

Chance

I just want 20 hey so I sor oh sor how did I don but other other i've been working myself since, and i've been working myself pretty hard. And everything p s looking for p s looking for but before there I you're one of my favor and somebody I cons i don but all three of you through i it taught me that there and I and I really love and app stay i start i can't wait to and and if i'm

Chance

RetroBeastto

32:11-32:32 is a smash bros reference

Corvo Joka

I think Anne forgot, that the average Newt has no idea that Anne is still a kid. She's as tall as the average adult Newt.😅😹 And then there's Sprig casually spawning a Getsuga Tenshou and throwing out those guys.😹 Ah man, no matter how often I watch this episode, I always tear up...

Julie

As someone from Denmark... Holly guacamole, that kid that cut in line made me furious. That would NEVER fly here, let alone twice

Yoshinatorsaurus

"Can you miss someone you've never even met?" God, that still hits every single time. This is definitely one of the most emotional episodes. As someone who lost their mom years ago, hearing Anne talk about how much she misses hers is even more of a gutpunch. And there's only more to come.

Michael W

Started as a card game though. I’ve always viewed it that way.
