Justin Riley

Fun fact, this book was originally titled "Reading Rainbow."

Luís Pacheco

Hey there Eggheads and bookworms!

Rudbeckia Gray

I'm so sorry about your gran, that's really hard to hear i hope you guys can get through this hard time in your life💜 if you ever need you can always take a break to deal with life, we'll be here when you get back you deserve a break too.

Tim Sammuals

Sorry to hear about you gran. I wish her and you who family all the best

SoaringJe

I was stuck without internet in the Philippines (USAmerican here) and I was so bored; I read the Twilight books because my sister had bought them. Edit: Oh I read Legends & Lattes! It is v comfy. Isn't there a sequel/prequel? i forget Edit 2: Oh there is a sequel! Edit 3: I mainly read fanfic, or even translated Chinese web novels because free—top rec currently would be the CaitVi Hockey AU 'Run at the Cup'—but for published book recs, I remember enjoying the YA book 'The One Who Eats Monsters' by Casey Matthews, and because I'm a law nerd, 'Barring Complications' by Blythe Rippon. all my recs are gay ladies 😅

Willow 404

Technically a Twidash episode

Saga

The crazy pony had a screw for a cutie mark. Because she has a screw loose. Oh, forgot a book rec! The Nevernight trilogy. Dark, but absolutely brilliant. <3

The Nerdy Tiger

"Energy, energy, energy!" Has returned this week

Taigan

Had fun with this one but REALLY looking forward to next week! 💗

MattTOB

32:17 Always nice to see you, Screwy. For some reason, I remember hearing about certain airings/dubs replacing her barking with her repeating something like "What a lovely evening" over and over. But after a cursory search, I can't find any evidence of that actually happening. Maybe it was a joke someone else had made about how Hasbro tended to censor these things (as with Derpy in The Last Round-up), and I was misremembering it as real? I dunno. Also, about book recommendations, I gotta ask: have you ever read Warriors? The series about the cats?

Taigan

Anything written by Terry Pratchett is gold.

Seraphem

So Ahuizuthol is based on a creature from Mesoamerican folklore. It's a kind of monkey/jaguar hybrid that lives in water holes to ambush prey by dragging it under the water to drown them.

Charlie Odinoco

Once again, I like that since the Mane 6 are adults, all of them except for Dash are beyond middle school petty crap, if they like to read then they like to read, and are completely unashamed of it. Also this episode is about bronies.

Sydney Horton

Very sorry for your Gran. So sorry.

Willow 404

We find out in a later episode that Daring Do is actually in-unverse historical fiction and that Rainbow Dash is her great granddaughter

Robert Morgan

So sorry to hear about your gran. Lost my dad two years ago to cancer, so I get it. My thoughts are with you and yours.

Connor B

One the most nostalgic episodes for me tbh

RaisedEyebrow

The phrase "Read it and weep" is actually most heavily associated with Poker, the phrase usually said by someone revealing (what they believe to be) a winning hand. Ahuizotl is an actual creature from Aztec mythology. Though I'm sure broad strokes are employed. Funnily enough, this "Reading Is Cool" episode aired right around when people started to recognize the older audience MLP was attracting. Which means it was created BEFORE then. And yet, an aesop about enjoying something you feel is stereotypically antithetical is shockingly appropriate for this fandom!

Iago24

Once again one of the more memorable episodes in the series. This is not the last time we'll get to hear from Daring Do... I used to read loads of books, but a full time job and YouTube have together damaged my attention span and I don't read nearly as much as I would like, any more. I got into reading when my first grade teacher read us the Lord of the Rings in its entirety over a two year period. Since then my taste moved towards more weird and convoluted books, like the Illuminatus-trilogy, The Southern Reach-trilogy or The Quantum Thief-trilogy, which probably explains why reduced attention span hurt my reading hobby so much. Also, looking back on it, the LotR seems to have caused me to hyperfocus on trilogies...

Jared Bichler

It's the Reading Rainbow episode!

iCommentToPlay

Keep your spirits and find those moments of joy! Wishing you all the best with the trying times ahead!

Jared Bichler

Sorry about your gran, I wish her and you the best.

Tim Sammuals

Also I recommend Chronicles of Aeonia: The Shadowed Prophecy. I saw Morgan with it in one of their reactions It looked good so I got it for myself. It was really good

Jennifer Dawes

I'm so sorry about your gran. I know there's nothing any of us can say to make it better, but just know that your whole community is behind and here for you. For book recs... My 'Harry Potter' growing up was/is The Young Wizards series. Legitimately the only similarity is 'young people with magic', not only did the first book of the YW series come out before HP's, but the author (Diane Duane) isn't a right cunt, and it has a completely different magic system and purpose. Magic in the YW series is meant to make the world a better place, it's built into the very Oath that wizards take to BECOME wizards (and no one is born a wizard here, someone can be offered the opportunity but it's up to them to accept it). It's a science based magic system, and wizardry is NOT human-centric, or even earth-centric. On Earth alone the three 'main' species that produce wizards are humans, cats, and cetaceans (whales and dolphins), but it's mentioned that a lot of other species also produce wizards, just not as often (examples given are dogs, birds of prey, great apes). And that isn't getting into alien wizards. Finally, I'll leave the first version of the Wizard's Oath we get in the series. The wording changes from species to species, and even person to person, depending on what resonates with the individual most... But the feeling is always the same: ‘In Life’s name, and for Life’s sake, I say that I will use the Art for nothing but the service of that Life. I will guard growth and ease pain. I will fight to preserve what grows and lives well in its own way; and I will change no object or creature unless its growth and life, or that of the system of which it is part, are threatened. To these ends, in the practice of my Art, I will put aside fear for courage, and death for life, when it is right to do so—till Universe’s end.’

Jennifer Dawes

Forgot to add, if you decide to check it out, I recommend the New Millennium editions, sold as e-books directly from the author. Because each book kept whatever science and tech was current at the time of writing, and the first book came out in the early 80s while the author is working on book 11 now, and only a few years have passed in the books, there were some... Jarring tech and science jumps from book to book. Also, the author regretted her depiction of an autistic wizard and the handling of it in one book (to be fair, the author is a former psychiatric nurse and was working with outdated information), and after listening to fans and doing more research on her own, she decided to go through the first 9 books and not only update all the tech and science, but set a concrete timeline AND heavily rewrite the book with the autistic wizard after listening to fans and realizing she done goofed. I will say, also, two characters (older mentors for the protagonists) are based heavily on dear friends of hers, and after both passed she did confirm that the two were in a queer relationship, and she had been entrusted with the secret of that (the times and the careers both were in made it so divulging that secret would have very negatively affected them) and she only felt safe letting fans know about it after both friends had sadly passed away.

Rainbow's realisation that she liked reading was the same exact feeling for me questioning liking this show!! I love this show! I love MLP!! I'M A BRONY?????? (surprise pikachu face) Also your face with Screwloose was priceless!

BeastialMoon

Mosco's bewildered reaction at 32:15 was SO funny

BeastialMoon

Oh dang David Clement-Davies is such a good author!! I got started by reading his future books, Sight and Fell, and just loved that world. It was during that time where I was still really into Lord of the Rings so learning a fake language was still fun 🤣🤣

Omegon

In case you haven't already read them, the Discworld Novels by Terry Pratchett are incredible.

Caroline Adams

This episode is pretty good and a great one with rainbowdash this episode is where she first discovered she had a love for Daring Doo :)

Verdant Crown

I borrowed Bookshops & Bonedust recently since I really enjoyed the first book 😊

Robert Morgan

He Who Fights With Monsters is an amazing series! I've read whats out currently and have started on the audiobooks.

iCommentToPlay

Funnily enough, it was you who recommended Legends and Lattes to me as well as another illustrator artist I follow who loved reading it in coffee shops to fit the vibe! It was so cosy and a hooking read!

Jared Bichler

If I were a teacher, I'd have open-book reports. Any book will do as long as it's fifty pages or longer. Sadly, community College told me I lacked the organizational skills.

Ash F.

So sorry about your grandma Mosco. Someone in my extended family recently passed from cancer as well so I definitely understand life being crazy. Please take care of yourself! We all love your reactions but we also understand if you need to take some time. Sending lots of love ❤️

Ash F.

Also, I really appreciate people who can really disagree with (or even outright dislike) an actor/author/musician but still appreciate and enjoy the art that they put into the world (like Harry Potter) so thank you for saying that!

MajorMagna

Ah imagine though, if that had been kept... I wonder if they could've got Levar Burton to voice the Doctor in the hospital.

MajorMagna

Ahuizotl is actually a real-world mythological creature from the Aztec culture.

Jared Bichler

"We love a hat that's also a weapon." Never underestimate the power of a good accessory.

DKscribe88

I want to say I'm sorry to hear about what's happening with your family. I also have some recommendations for good reads. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance by J.M. Lee, a 4 book series might be up your alley. It's high fantasy with romance, peril, quests and a lot of cool creatures in it. If you're into scary, you might try another 4 book high fantasy series that has creatures referred to as the Fae since I think it might be about creatures from Celtic folklore, or at least heavily influenced by it. The first book is Thief's Covenant by Ari Marmell. I'm basing these recommendations on the fact you're creating The Elves of Amaranth. They both may or may not contain queer relationships in them.

•☽Tessaraꨄ︎Scorpia☾•

Sorry to hear about your gran, ❤️ sending you strength. As for book recs, all of my books i would recommend are romantasy xD so they might get awkward, but! i can totally put them out there if you want lol.

DKscribe88

Also, I love Firebringer and the somewhat sequel The Sight. Great recommendations. Everyone, go ahead and read them. Listen to Mosco! And love Watership Down, my favorites are Fiver and Pipkin and Blackberry. I was so upset when they didn't have Pipkin in the Netflix remake.

ShadowLightMew

Yay you finally got to meet Daring Do, her books actually got released in real life :)

Deco the Artist

If you haven't yet, definitely pick up "The Last Unicorn" by Peter S. Beagle! Such amazing writing in it, so many quotable pages!

JHB

The next time DD appears she's up against the Crikeydiles. I'll let you guess what THAT's all about.

SweetCandle

The answer to your question is that she's a psychiatric patient.

Magikltrevr

My book recommendation: you may like the Kushiel's Legacy book series by Jacqueline Carey. I found it while randomly browsing a book store years ago and loved the series. The first book is called Kushiel's Dart.

Gabriella Bryant

My friend let me borrow her copy of Legends and Lattes. I'm really enjoying it right now.

Helen Dingo

Two great books I would recommend: Dreadnaught and Sovereign by April Daniels. They're both part of a series that is planned to be 3 or 4 books, but the author hit writers block after finishing Sovereign, and has been dealing with a lot because she is a trans woman living in the USA. The story is about a teenage closeted trans girl who unintentionally inherits the powers of the greatest superhero in the world when he dies in front of her in the first chapter of the first book, Dreadnaught. It's REALLY good. (Trigger warning, the main character, Danny, experiences a lot of transphobia throughout both books, and the second book has an extended torture scene where a supervillain tries to remove her powers with a magic spell. But if you can get through that, both books are amazing reads)

Gabriella Bryant

I would totally recommend Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira. It is my favorite book of all time and I don't think anything else will ever come close. I have lots of favorite books but this one is mumber one always. It isn't just about the letters it is about the main character and her life. There is even some saphic in there. Plot Overview • The Assignment: A high school English teacher asks students to write a letter to a dead person. • The Choice: Laurel chooses Kurt Cobain because her older sister, May, died young and loved him. • The Notebook: Laurel fills a notebook with letters to other late icons, including Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse, and Heath Ledger.

RavenFairy

Tarry Goodkine sword of truth books I love them

burnout boss

Fun fact daring do and the book series are all based off of Indiana jones

Citrine

Ahuizotl (the big bad of ten Daring Do book) lifted from a creature from Aztec mythology with the same name. The creature is dog-like and has a hand at the end of the tail. Just for fun fact!

Tristan N Milner

Watching an MLP episode about fiction in a Manga shirt. Oh, the foreshadowing. You're going to love those episodes.

Tarot-Sovereign

When it comes to reading; I was hooked by the Discworld books by Sir Terry Pratchett. Which I HIGHLY recommend to everyone.

Faroth

One thing nobody mentions is that RD started reading outloud... The poor guy in the next bed could use that entertainment but she stopped, poor guy couldnt even move 😭😫

Faroth

Funfact: mlp has some of the biggest longer fanfics there are, including the, if im remembering correctly, longest: Fallout equestria, so the "reading is cool" episode only make stuff go wilder on this Fallout: Equestria by Kkat is massive (reaching at over 620,000 words), it actually make it so another person make a spin-off called "Fallout: Equestria - Project Horizons" by Somber, which is one of the longest single-author works of fiction in human history at a staggering 1.7 million words—far longer than the entire Harry Potter series combined.

TheNetherwurm

Just as you were reaching over to get your book I was thinking "I bet Mosco would really love Legends & Lattes, I should recommend it to her." and then that's exactly what you reveal lol! Also I just now learned that there is more than just the two books in the series and can't wait to get to my closest bookstore again to find them!

Dayash

gneuinely one of my all time favorite rainbow dash episodes !!!

Anzac-A1

7:59 Separate the art from the artist.

CobaltStarCat

School destroying someone's love for reading is sooo fucking true, although with mine it's more associated with me basically hiding in the school library from bullies. So now I kind of associate books with that time in my life. Although I do still read fanfics so at least I do read a bit...

frameschick

Mosco, praying for you and your family! I hope you all find comfort in this time and that your grandmother isn't in pain. </3 Also, regarding the phrase "read it and weep:" have you watched the movie A Bug's Life? There's a little scene in there that explains the phrase.

Chance

I will hardly ever miss you I promise you on that reading is for everybody and actually some of my most favorite memories are reading with my older sister and there's just so many happy memories I have around that the books that we've read are Stillwater diary of the vamp machine there's a physical book called Fix You that one was pretty good to chill and Mockingbird and I actually got the full set of the Twilight soccer for my but now we're reading and listening to an audiobook of a book series called the prey it's a very interesting it is a very interesting book series it's hot vampires and werewolves and it's not vampires and werewolves and all sorts of stuff I'm not sure what else I'm only on chapter I did 27 and it's a six-part but series and I'm really really excited to continue and I'm working on my own high fantasy and graphic novel called the princess of the night and was actually doing your girlfriend that gave me I mean you guys gave me some inspiration but I I actually started I actually started that 2 years ago when my grandma was really sick and starting to kind of go downhill and I'm sorry to hear about your brand I'm sorry to hear about your grandma as well that sucks hopefully she's doing better my grandpa he actually had Joshua had corn or no bladder cancer in 2021 but is good test done now and again ever since months but so do I a couple years ago so I've been meaning to get so I've been meaning to get into

Chance

You still have some blood test done every now and again but so do I am I am a type I have diabetes so I have to go in twice some I have I have to go in every I have to go in every 6 months and at that truck so once in the spring and once in the winter but I don't mind and I hope you and your family are enjoying your vacation oh and also I know this is like 2 days after you posted this but October 10th is actually the anniversary of when My of when My Little Pony just a fun little fact I thought you would I thought you'd like to know and I also oh and there was also a book that I would have actually two but said I would highly recommend so there's two novels that I that I have and that I've read well mostly red one is called the cabin and the other one is called the girl from the sea the girl from the sea is a staffing novel so I just I figured you'd like I figured you like that one and it's really interesting it's really interesting it's one of my favorite it's one of the favorite books one of my favorite books that I own also have a accumulation of some MLP books as books as well so they're like but serious and stuff that you can get

Glitchmaster1872

Considering your description of Watership Down, I feel like you'd enjoy the Warriors series by Erin Hunter. I'd say it's similar but with wild cats as the main characters instead of rabbits. "Into the Wild" is the first in the series and the recommended starting point. If you don't like it then thats fine, the more recent books get kinda crazy but the first arc I genuinely love.

Otaku Twenty-Four Seven

at 19:19 the general concensus is that Daring Do sarcastically sighs and says "No way!" or "Okay!" in the animation and there was going to be another sequence of trap dodging that she just set off (as she was looking down at what she stepped on to trigger it), but it probably got cut for time so they just used an extended sigh to try and make better sense but didnt pay to reanimate out the line read.

RedeemerofDark

I haven't read it in a while but I remember really enjoying reading Dan Brown's Digital Fortress. It's about a couple of FBI agents trying to figure out a mystery of why the FBI/CIA is getting hacked and how to stop it!

Everi3laze

My favorite series is keeper of the lost citese which is a good serise for fans of harry potter who want a new series, its about a girl called Sophie who has been reading the minds since she was 5, she has no control over the power eventually she is found by others like her who have powers like her and she learns to control them tho this world is falling apart form the inside. I love theses books so much ive been reading this series for 7 years now, there are a lot of books in the serise so if you nedd a long ready here is a series. The audio books are good too, all on audible

Everi3laze

Also sorry to hear about your grandma, i also my grandma recently, i it is tough and it will hurt but, it dose grt easier tho you never stop missing them

Jacob Voronkov

They couldn't go with that title because they couldn't get the rights to use the name from the classic TV series. That surprises me since they were later able to use Dragon Quest.

Anvildude

Twilight LITERALLY RUNS A LIBRARY.

Isabella Englant

I’m so very sorry to hear about your gran my heart goes out to you and your gran keeping you in my thoughts and prayers 💕

TrinnytheBunny

I’m sorry to hear about your grandmother, my dad passed away from cancer last year, I can understand how it is on the family

Tallulahbell

I loved The Sight and Fell as a teenager, I liked fire bringer as well but loves were a bit of a special interest at the time so the wolf books really drew me in

Kyasemi

I remember when I first got into reading: my teacher from elementary had a daughter who read Warriors by Erin Hunter and knowing my love for animals, she thought it'd be perfect for me to start enjoying to read. And boy was she RIGHT! I couldn't put the first book down and started reading the series all throughout the night. Then I started reading the books of the series that should not be named and also reading the Percy Jackson series which is far more superior. Then later down the line during high school I started reading Wings of Fire.
