So fun fact: this was the first episode that I was exposed to in the series and it’s what got me into watching it along with my sister. It also helps that it has a song so memorable and iconic that if you asked any Mlp fan, 9 times out of 10 this song would be in their top ten favorites. So much so that it produced quite a few remixes (we don’t talk about THAT one though iykyk lol). It does hold a special place in my heart for being the episode that got me in the show even if it’s not among my top ten favorites 😅

There was a fan theory based on Pinkie's hoof trick, that she descends from Sleipnir, Loki's eight-legged horse son. Which would be pretty appropriate, all things considered. And the Smile song became memetic over a very infamous fan animation. Now, to be fair, Pinkie's does act like a horror film antagonist for much of the episode...

Best Pinkie song in the series! Or at least the most iconic. She does need to work on backing off when someone asks her to. Poor Cranky goes through it because of her. Had she left well enough alone, Cranky and Matilda would likely meet randomly in town, and the memory book wouldn't have been a casualty.

And we finally arrived to the episode that gave us one of the most if not THE most iconic song of the series! The Smile Song! Still love it to this day! As for the plot of the episode, it's not one of my favorites personally. I mean I like Cranky and can relate to him a lot with wanting to be alone and stuff. I just feel like the plot is a little unoriginal cause I've seen similar plots in other shows with a grouchy old person and the reason is they lost touch with someone they love and they reunite in the end. I mean it's cute and all. I don't mean to say it's bad by any means. Just sort of a been there done that type thing. Also Pinkie was being a bit much and I say that with love cause I do love her.

I remember back in the day someone had a crazy theory about Pinkie that kinda explained things but not really. Saying that Pinkie was an incarnation of Slepnir, the six legged horse child to the God of Mischief Loki. Because how in this episode she briefly had six legs and said "okie dokie Loki" a lot back during the Birthday episode and was generally a prankster. I don't actually belive it. But these were the kinds of theories people were coming up with back in the day.

The Smile song is the closest thing the Brony community has to an anthem, because bar the toxic ones (unfortunately a part of every community) they just want to have fun and make people happy. Your shirt has Lyra Heartstrings on it, one of the more noticable background ponies. In the very first episode during the Summer Sun Celebration you can see her in the crowd jumping excitedly with a huge, manic smile on her face. Fans initially dubbed her Lyra thanks to her cutie mark, while Hasbro initially named her Heartstrings (on cards that they had out at the time) so both sides just kinda shrugged and went 'Lyra Heartstrings it is. She sometimes sits weird in the background, more like a human than a pony, so fans characterized her as being a bit of a conspiracy theorist who believes humans exist (think people obsessed with the Loch Ness Monster or Bigfoot). Her best friend and roommate is BonBon, the cream pony with purple and pink hair. BonBon's original name from Hasbro was Sweetie Drops, but even they ended up using the fan name for her (quite a few characters who never have their name said when they're first introduced got named by fans, and the writers and Hasbro just kinda ran with it). Lyra and BonBon are probably the most notable background ponies after Derpy herself.

I like the message of this episode, but Pinkie never does learn the lesson. I wish there was a little more 'show' instead of 'tell', but it worked. Cranky is definitely NOT an incredibly important character whose many contacts around Equestria will be vitally important to the future safety of all ponykind. No, not at all. Why would you ever think such a thing? Secret Agent Double-O Doodle has never existed. Never!
