Buffalo tornado! Right down the street from me, woot!!

Al Goehring

Thanks to RWN crew for the ongoing shows and coverage. When you’re as credulous and clueless as me (self-deprogramming from generic Democrat voter is harder than you’d think especially with no advanced education) it helps enormously. Grazie bella gente

William

This seems like a propaganda move that has a dangerous risk of encirclement; at the least, a risk of losing your current best fighters and important equipment that you were desperate to have

William

“Let’s go to Kursk! Nothing bad has ever happened to invading forces there”

Jacob Kreier

Brave of John to break the no-predictions doctrine to comment on something as fraught and imminent as Iran-Israel escalation

GC

31:48--great concise summary of Vance's transactional relationships at law school, John. The whole Chua/Rubenfeld nexus there is very very gross

Austin Mettler

No commentary on the Israeli pro-rape mobs?

Mark's thinking of the Dahiya doctrine I think

Then there were the Poles who sided with the Haitian rebels against the French - who were employing the Poles at the time.

Tornadoes need to hit Aspen during the conference

Yairo Martis

Yes, you're right. I was thinking of the "Samson Option", which is Israel's nuclear last stand.

PW

To be fair, a lot of the British rioters were driven by the Police, at the direction of Labor, refusing to prosecute grooming gangs of immigrants (in return for them voting in blocks for Labor) that were targeting British girls. Google Rochdale.

Michael S. Judge

Mark, I believe you're thinking of The Samson Option. "If we can't win, pull down the pillars, destroy the Middle East."

Smallbusinessman

I think he was referring to the Dahiyeh doctrine.

I was in the ME when Soleimani was killed. It was a pretty chaotic scene. The military was caught off guard, then went 0-200 in 6 seconds. It was way more tense than it is, now. I think the military was a little burnt out by the orange guys you scratch my back, weird foreign policy. His iraq and Afghan drawdown strategy was like heres five bases, pick three to eliminate in a month. Might have been done alphabetically. Who knows? I'm still shocked everyone forgets the Qatar blockade, the Kurdistan retreat that enraged the socom folks, the awful, stupid deals that ended up rejuvenating the ranks of isis, etc., and Soleimani. Post Soleimani it was crazy. It really only defused after Iran accidentally shot down the civilian airliner and the rest of the world jumped in. Everyone seems to forget about that. But, i think the blockade and the Turkey/Qatari alliance, with Qatars semi okay relationship with Iran probably played a role, too. I still think, too, that Turkey leaked the khashoggi tapes because of the blockade. They airlifted food to qatar at the time. I also have the suspicion that the tape leaks stopped because trump offered a favor to Turkey and that ended up being the Kurdistan retreat. I always thought that because he kept saying he'd saved mbs's ass, but never clarified. Thanks for the show.

etienne

okay how long ago was this again? do they need to do pogroms about it today?

AG

In your discussion of JD Vance I see myself in him in that I too am not very smart. Also white with a beard.

Mark Ames

Thanks, all good and important reminders, so many “events” in the present tense it’s easy to forget some of these.

“Charles Johnson shat on the floor” was a fun moment in mid-2010s twitter

Freddy K.

You've completely lost the plot.

PW

It's an on-going issue in many communities outside London. Rochdale is only one example. The people in those communities feel like there are two sets of laws; one for non-peerage white brits and another for SE Asian immigrants and they are fed up with being treated like 2nd class in their own country. Chalking it up to "Merry Olde British Islamophobia" is surprisingly tone-deaf and ill informed.

etienne

this whole story is really annoying to me, I'm sure it's horrifying and gross and it's also become the one wedge issue that's going to make the UK slam the door completely shut on multiculturalism and international human rights. this seems too cynical

CR

They’re going to lose those forces anyway. At least this way they take some Russians with them instead of just getting shelled to shit in the mud.

PW

It is depressing. And cynical and reactionary. And I place the blame squarely on the UK gov which is as detached from the common people as any western gov today. For an insightful look into what caused this recent outbreak of rioting check out this British Historian on yt who made a very good video about what's going on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvA9odna5dw

Unfair to Samson

Nomad22

Just a random impression/question from someone living in the US who only has the internet for information: Is there any way the US can avoid getting involved in a wider war, potentially with Iran, in the middle east? I just ask because it seems like the less Iran/Hezbollah responds to Israeli attacks, for whatever reason, the more that emboldens Israel to escalate. Further, it seems like Israel needs to draw the US into a war in order to take out Hezbollah and the Iranian government, which seems like their wider strategic goal. Will domestic pressures prevent Iran/Hezbollah from responding even if Israel continues attacking them?

MoldyTolge

They stuck around too! They were exempt from the purge of the Europeans and some of them settled down. There’s still families with Polish last names in some parts of Haiti. And I’ve heard but can’t confirm that the Black Madonna of Częstochowa kinda got adopted into some part of local Voudon practices.

drewb

Something very funny about an ugly ginger man who shat on the floor extolling the innate virtues of the white race

drewb

Fuck off you racist prick

drewb

Hi, this prick is parroting right wing talking points. Please treat them as such. They also don't spell Labour correctly, so I'm not sure they're even British.

drewb

Lovely video where all the comments are praising folk for "standing up to immigrants" you've got there, you vile nazi shitstain

Christopher Price

yeah, there's no way a Brit would misspell labour.

Smutticus

Mark, you implied that the Signal messages between Vance and Johnson published by the Washington Post were the result of a leak in the Signal application. I doubt that is true. Most likely the Signal messages were simply leaked by Johnson or someone who had access to his device. I appreciate you pointing out that Signal received early funding from CIA linked OTF. But as far a I know Signal remains the only chat application independently reviewed by cryptographers for security. A money trail doesn't prove an application is insecure and insinuating it does is sloppy journalism.

CR

The point has never been that Signal and Tor have backdoors for the IC, but they don’t have to because they know the precise architecture of those programs and very likely do know or are alerted to zero days before anyone else

CR

The U.S. is gambling on the same wager that it has bet and won on since Korea: no one wants to go to war, not with the U.S. or anyone. The last time we played this card and lost was in 1950. The next time will also be when China stops tolerating our bullshit.

Smutticus

Prove it. Here's the code. https://github.com/signalapp I can't prove a negative, but until I see evidence of your assertion I will discount it. Also, this isn't about whether Signal is secure or not. My comment was that mark insinuated that Signal was insecure and that's how these messages were leaked. He has no evidence of that. Just like you have no evidence that Signal is insecure. I'm not say it is secure, or that it's not backdoored or whatever. I'm saying I want evidence.

Tom Warner

part of the problem here is that I think just about anyone who isn't a Big Nerd About Computer Security (so, y'know, most everyone) doesn't really have the capacity to distinguish between: - "insecure because the guy you're talking to might leak screenshots from the chat to the media" - "insecure because your device might be compromised and sending screenshots to Fort Meade" - "insecure because the actual protocol is backdoored" as painful as at sometimes is to suppress my pedantry, I've also learned that most people don't care about these sorts of differences anyway

Mark Ames

I didn't imply that the Signal messages were hacked, I said Johnson, a known informant, leaked them to the WaPo. What I did say is that Vance was stupid for assuming even Signal encrypted texts would never get leaked because there are always humans involved in these "encrypted" systems, whatever the maths. Heard similar technical arguments about Tor's alleged imperviousness, and then it turned out there were open backdoors, because humans run these things and certain human organizations pay for the technologies. Read Yasha's book Surveillance Valley is all I can say.

SB

IIRC Hersh's description of SO (in his book) included destruction of Western European Capitols.

One thing I don't understand is why White Riot and not Anarchy in the U.K.
