In this week’s bonus episode, co-hosts Jakub and Nastya speak with their colleague, the head of investigations at the Kyiv Independent, Anna Myroniuk.

They discuss how reporting on corruption in Ukraine has changed since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion almost a year ago, and whether the media should continue to hold those in power accountable or if reporting on corruption distracts from the war.

I think reporting on corruption is part of the fight for a free and democratic Ukraine. It shows freedom of the press, transparency, and honest government.

Nathaniel Espino

Surely the corruption itself is an even greater distraction for the officials who are supposed to be pursuing the war effort? Keep publishing.

It's absolutely essential to ensure those in power are held to account, possibly more so now than ever before. Media plays a big role in this. Make sure no one gets away with betraying your country and her people, who are working hard to defend their country.

Yes, more of this. And we must support the auditors who have been sent as we provide military aid…and also develop an auditing system and force in Ukraine with Ukrainians fulfilling this role—they want it and are more than capable. The skillsets are perfect for Ukrainians and will integrate them into the EU.

My decision to support The Kyiv Independent was largely due to your determination to fight corruption. Please do all you can to expose it.
