Dear Kyiv Independent community members,
Thank you for your continued support!
We'd also like to give a warm welcome to our 295 new members this week. We wouldn't be here without you.
Here are some highlights from the Kyiv Independent over the last week:
We reached our goal of 10,000 members at the end of January. Thank you for your support – this is a huge milestone in terms of our financial sustainability, and it's an incredible result for a media outlet in Eastern Europe. We're so proud to be reader-funded and so grateful for the support we've received.
We are moving offices! For a few months we've been on the hunt for a new office that better suits our needs. We found one, and we're currently in the process of relocating. Pictured above is head of communications Anastasiia Holovnenko sitting in the old office with the remaining furniture on Wednesday, Feb. 1.
This week, two developments on the front lines included Russia's contested capture of Blahodatne, a village north of Bakhmut, and Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov's statement that Russia has mobilized 500,000 troops for a massive offensive push to capture Donbas by March.
On Feb 1., Ukrainian law enforcement searched the houses of several former and incumbent top officials, as well as a U.S.-sanctioned oligarch. These searches are part of the largest anti-corruption raid since the beginning of Russia's war a year ago.
We wrote about the 7.9 million Ukrainians who have fled their country since the start of the full-scale invasion last February and the fact that many might not return to Ukraine.
Ukraine's National Opera continues performances despite losing members to the war and closing for three months during the beginning of Russia's all-out war. Watch the video about the National Opera here.
Thank you for standing by our side as we bring independent, locally-sourced news about Ukraine to the world.
