I will dig deep into why I don't like this submachine gun wannabe, the Copperhead.  OK it's just a semi auto pistol but you know what I mean.

Sig apparently wanted "maximum concealability with few snag points" and had input from the "professional community"  in its design. Uh, OK but these guys must have been idiots.  Because what resulted is a heavy braced pistol that offers zero advantage over an AR9 pistol or other quality braced pistol option.  There's lots wrong with the Copperhead.

Sure the Copperhead looks pretty cool and features a closed rotating bolt design but it's also over 5 lbs.  Its looks alone will attract buyers and be prepared for them to defend their $1500 purchase in comments.  It seems like another abstract, unvetted idea that seemed real cool on paper but grossly violates versatility, value, ergonomic, and SAWC principles.

Credit is given to other MPX models like the "K" that might be better. But in the end several much better options in the same caliber are shown.

Matthew Sinn

I was wondering what you're opinion of the Copperhead would be when I saw it announced. Very much the ugly duckling...

Ryan Reese

Awesome! Can't wait for this one... I went ahead and bought that FDE M&P9 2.0 and now I'm cruising for a muzzleloader. Your old Great Plains video got me hooked. I'd love a Springfield or Enfield to match my 1851 Navy Revolver but all a Civil War clone Muzzleloaders are pretty expensive. I'm leaning towards a Kentucky Rifle. Any recommendations?

Jared Long

Haven't even watched it yet but I knew what your opinion was going to be. I've never been on the PCC bandwagon, and this thing is just dumb.

David Elkins

I’ve always thought the copperheads were all just gimmicky. Oddly enough the mcx virtus 5.56 in 16” is at the top of my wish list and would have already been bought if actually in stock anywhere.

David Elkins

If I was gonna buy a pcc I’d get the CMMG banshee 300 in 9mm

Matthew Sinn

A Banshee MK10 10mm is on my list if/when I ever have money not already allocated to another gun. Seems like the top of the line PCC on the market today. That being said, it's still just "on the list". I do already have a 10mm MechTech which I love, so I'm not really pining for the type.

Aaron Martin

These past couple of videos on PCCs have been super helpful. I've been drooling over them convincing my self it'd be better than a pistol but I'm not so inclined any more.

C0RLoCK

Wow... this looks... fugly and wrong, like someone gutted in AR receiver and stuck a Glock inside or something LOL. I would take the Ruger PC charger over this any day.

John Krywy

Funny... I was talking to a coworker the other day who was so excited to get one of these. Can’t wait to see him at the range. We just had our Glock 19s arrive at our port, so should be getting them once training starts back up after COVID... but I’m eyeing a 9mm CMMG Banshee with Glock lower. Likely a 300 lower (CQB RipBrace) and the 200 upper (8.5” barrel). The 5” barrel might look cool, but rather the extra velocity and less chance of blowing a finger off.

John Krywy

Oh, and for the Glock 34 setup... check out the TLR-7A. I ran the TLR-7 on my Glock 30S... and the light would turn on when I moved around with the holster. The A model has rear facing controls, and fit in the holsters I already had. That is my new go-to compact weapon light... replacing the TLR-3 before it.

Deadmonkey

Is that PFIdude in the beard? Are we still friends with him?

Todd Strelka

I enjoyed the intro. Rail sessions are fun. But hey, the color is nice. Thanks for being independent and honest on these reviews. It keeps us coming back. Plus high entertainment value. I bet that kid at Wyatt's range can shoot better than me.

Aaron

WTF is this thing? Looks ridiculous. Then I watched the review. What a 💩. Or perhaps I’m just in a pissy mood. I think I’ll go watch that video of you hacking at wood.

Pedro

For 1,600$$ I need a respiratory tech and a BiPAP machine.

Pedro

It looks so awesome it fits right into any zombie movie, maybe that’s the whole marketing idea lol.

Jonathan-James

This just made my day Nutn. I have so much to be thankful for but on a personal level today really was substandard. Somthing about the brutal yet bitterless review was just pure medicine for the soul. I very much enjoyed the rail session. Side note, that stabilizer looks like spaceship landing gear.

Ol Retired Fed

For that kind of money, I have 2 or 3 other guns I would rather buy. A long slide glock with a long mag beats this thing.

Jonathan-James

Agreed, I shot some dudes short barreled ar, think an 8in barrel, and I grabbed the forward end of the guard without thinking about it and would have shreaded my fingers if i hadnt been wearing gloves. I am an experienced shooter but I still make mistakes.

Jonathan-James

Pedro you told me you were good on that stuff.

DuginIN

Never had an interest or paid any attention to the Copperhead but I love learning about firearms. Appreciate the informative and honest GRV. I am paying attention to AR10s. Been on the fence for awhile now on what to buy. Being patient. I see SIG has the 716i TREAD. Maybe a winner?

RowdyRon

She looks beautiful, but her boobs are fake, and she has no personality (and she can't cook).

Kenny Bridges

You had me at “feature length rail session” keep up the good work!

Another dumb civilian

Couldn’t agree more about the copperhead. Being that I own an 8in Mpx this whole review would have been way different. Yes it’s expensive, but so is the mcx and you didn’t complain about that. Going that short on the barrel makes zero sense. The magazines are amazing to load, the longer you go on the barrel the softer it shoots and when it’s suppressed is where it really shines. But once again the copperhead big thumbs down. Have the legit 8in model and it’s a totally different gun.

Pedro

I was until I hear what this thing sells for. Like someone sucker punched my lungs out,1,600$ for a heavy pistol I need to catch my breath.

William Rice

Nut'n, remember the expression, "faster and funnier"?

Racing Psychosis

And just when I thought I wouldn't see any more stupid things today, you drop that 5+ lbs paperweight on us.

sean

Other reviewers: "This gun is great, you just need to buy a $400 aftermarket barrel and replace the brace and then you need to....". Nutnfancy: "This gun pretty much sucks..." Awesome review, keep up the great work.

The Nutnfancy Project

Exactly. Long slide Glock is the winner in the PCC or Braced Pistol Option (BPO)...hey a new TNP acronym!

The Nutnfancy Project

"Have the legit 8in model and it’s a totally different gun." Yep, I wish I would have reviewed that model instead or the K. They make much more sense.

The Nutnfancy Project

Thank you for noticing Sean! You'll always get the straight skinny here. Oh btw more rail sessions are inbound, you might find them entertaining.

SigCrash

Recover Tactical® 20/20 Stabilizer Kit for Glock

William Rice

LOL! I was an 1115F for 9 years. I did the same thing!

Matthew Sinn

Bring on the Rants, Raw Desert Testing, and Philosophy. You're the best Nutn.

Scott Charles kane

Im glad i stuck with my choice to buy the ptr9kt mp5K clone

Lon N

My personal vote is for a little bigger & substantially more thump. 10 mm & 10 inch barrel would be interesting...as are rifle calibers. As always enjoyed Nutn-infotainment. Mech Warrior supporting cast?

Lon N

Add in comment: Looked at ATN's new clip on thermal? Worthy?.

Faustus

Not sure who that little kid was shooting it, but the LOP looked about perfect for him. I think we may have found the target market: 8 yo's with trust funds.

Trystan Raven

Is there a reason why you’d want a civilian version of a sub gun instead of just getting like a pdw style ar? I’m just curious because I think the AR has more potential than a civi subgun even in that config.

Brad Fegan

Looks funny to me. Keep eyeing the CMMG Banshee in 10mm.

Mr. Ed

In the megaphone 📣 HOW ABOUT THAT BRACED G34 AND ITS 5.3" BARREL UP AGAINST THE COPPERHEAD'S 3.5" LOL NO WONDER THE WIFE HATES IT

RowdyRon

Even though it failed (and it's not my cup of tea), I'm glad you checked it out. Sometimes hearing what you don't like gets me to thinking more about the same features or faults on other firearms. The exercise is valuable and entertaining. Thanks Nutn.

Mike R

The whole reason anyone would really be buying the Copperhead is to put on a suppressor and keep it a super short gun. You're telling me they didn't give you a threaded barrel WTF?! Makes no sense other then that's something else you have to buy and now you're looking at almost 2k for something that should have came with the gun and been $800 MSRP.

Hold Fast Joe

I agree, it's good to hear the negative! Enjoyed it

David Eslamizar

I have two endo tactical adapters. I bought a Gen 2.5 police trade in from AimSurplus and a Gen 5 Glock 17 blue label price. I run the Gen 2.5 with the brace and it side folds. I run the Gen 5 as a braceless pistol. That way I can carry one style of mag and one caliber. For my submachine gun needs, I decided to go with a POF MP5. It has a SHF brace, B&T light/handguard, and a MRO green dot on a Midwest rail. With the MP5 I have first and second type of cool covered lol. Nice way so spend $2400 lol.

Nancy Merrell-Robertson

If I had unlimited money I would still consider getting this. Why? Because it's just my size and would look second cool hanging on my gun room wall.

The Nutnfancy Project

Yes worthy. That's a system that's versatile and not just tied to one gun. Might get one for testing.

Michael Morris

Brutal truth / honesty... why I am still here.

Lon N

The "good weight" vs "bad weight" balance, looks like a lot of pouch stowable extra 'firepower' for 24 oz. & 8 hours thermal per charge. USB rechargeable external battery packs are common, probably could fit 2of them in a single AR pouch.

Tacticaldoodle

I'm convinced this was made to finish some dude's space marine costume at SIG. It's heavy, it's got a strap to fire with your arm straight out one handed, and it looks like a primaris bolter. It's heavy as shit and the mags are expensive, as well as the proprietary part nonsense throughout. If you think it's super cool then rock on, I'd got with an Evo Scorp for my fun PDW needs.

Frankie Gray

Thanks for the review, was considering one, now definitely not. Sorry I haven't send patches your way yet! With COVID we've been doing some crazy alerts. Will send as soon as i'm home.

Tacticaldoodle

Like pretty much anything on the market, any function is really only a secondary excuse or supposed cause to invoke the rule of cool. Cool sells. Looks are supremely important in the market.

Tacticaldoodle

Eh, in this variant you can't totally assume it to be true. Sig will undoubtedly unleash tens of variants every year to corner every last inch of the market. I can't keep all them separate, but there will def. be some with suppressor ready barrels and likely a longer rail that's got enough room undernead for a can. That would be cooler, but damn son this thing is heavy even as short as it is.

The Nutnfancy Project

AR is superior in every way. As shown in the video, the AR15 BPO is an xlnt choice.

The Nutnfancy Project

" You're telling me they didn't give you a threaded barrel WTF?! " Yes that is correct. It is a non starter and will be discontinued by Sig after this review.

C0RLoCK

I think I would rather buy 6 Hi-Point carbines...

C0RLoCK

Or if it was given to me I would sell it to finally get a Marlin Camp 9 I really wish they would bring that back, maybe design a 10 mm version

IndianaBen

Several guys talking about CMMG Banshees... not sure what you’re getting at. The 10mm is 5.5lbs also and the 9mm isn’t a lightweight either. I’ve handled them and trust me they feel heavy as hell. Pass.

Nathan Simms aka Darkpriest

I fired 6 magazines through one about 8 weeks ago. I wasn't that impressed especially for the price. If you want a PCC go with the PSA AR9. If you want something with a 3 inch barrel get a sub compact 9mm like a Glock 43. Not sure why this thing even exists especially at the price point.

Matthew Sinn

5.5 lbs is a full pound lighter than my MechTech naked, and the 10mm can actually take advantage of the extra barrel length. Is the Banshee perfect? No. Could a better option be created? Of course. Is it the best 10mm PCC available now? I think so.

Brian Jones

I use my CMMG Banshee as a truck gun so for my POU weight is not an issue. This fits for my system needs in the specific situation it was purchased for.

Sheepdog

14:00 You touch on the rotating bolt perhaps being engineered for a more powerful cartridge like a 10mm. I would totally be more interested in a PCC if it was made available in 10mm. Particularly one that ran Glock 20 / 40 magazines. I would seriously consider a Sub 2K that took those magazines.

Justin Carwile

Thanks for keeping it real! From the get go I wondered what on earth Sig was trying to do with this product and thought to myself "no way this is a commercial success". Props to them for trying new offerings though, even if the formula isn't a winner.

Anthony Schaad

I don’t get the pcc popularity going around. I definitely understand the 2nd cool factor but for me I need the 1st cool factor and it’s does the tool I might defend my life with be the best option. If I want a carbine I want max effectiveness! I’ll stick with my 556/223 or 762

Ryan Benn

I thought this firearm looked pretty cool. It seemed like nutn was overreacting until he mentioned the price and started talking about the features. That weight, that barrel, that price... you've got to be kidding me. Totally turned off.

Ryan Benn

PCCs don't make much sense for people who live out in the desert like nutn, but for those of us that live in the urban jungle, especially someone who lives in an apartment, range and over penetration can be a serious problem. Also in a crowded environment a shorter firearm can have some major advantages.

Anthony Schaad

I get that . I’m just sayn I don’t live in a dessert, plenty of close quarters and with the training that I’ve had I still would rather a 16 inch AR. I’ve had a 10.5 inch AR n after training and running simulations , going through hallways, around corners etc I just would rather have the former. I definitely understand the over penetration aspect of rifle ammo , but I go back to basic firearms instruction of know where my shot goes after the target. But hey to each his own , if pccs float ur boat it’s all good, there very popular where I live!!

Shadeslinger

Nutn, you had to show that Endotactical brace again didn't you? I've been on the fence about getting a brace for a Glock just to try out. I went out on a limb and pulled the trigger on a new brace from a company called Recovertactical. Similar style folding the brace that fits most double stack glocks (as I do not own a 3rd gen). Hopefully it doesn't suck lol

HappyFrancisMacomber

Get the mpx is you must. I’ve shot it and liked it. I run the CAA MCK and Endo tactical on glock pistols... so great and you have access to so many mods and aftermarket parts for the glocks.

A.J. Algiers

I’d love to see a CAA review for a Glock 17.

Hugh Amlett

3.5 inch barrel? I could not understand why this gun was so hyped, thanks for being real about it.

Hugh Amlett

Also the price of MPX mags is insane, and AFAIK the gun comes with 1 mag. Totally unacceptable for that price.

The Nutnfancy Project

How can guys afford to shoot the 10mm though (unless they reload but I don't most would)?

The Nutnfancy Project

Sig's a great company but just whiffed on the Copperhead. Even if priced at $700 I wouldn't touch it.

Aermotor

I'm so happy you posted this! So much hype all over IG etc on these things and I've bene SO CONFUSED BY THEM! Thank you as always Nutn. Supporting since 2009 from behind enemy line sin CA. My parents live in Highland and I'm moving to UT soon. Thanks for everything.

Aaron Ferralles

Thanks for keeping it real Nutn. College students like myself can’t afford a 1600 dollar PCC. Watching your reviews, I get directed towards GTW guns I can afford like the SU-16. Awesome job.

Matthew Sinn

I stocked up a bunch of Armscor and Sig 10mm when I got my yearly bonus a couple of years in a row knowing it's part of the hobby I want to be able to enjoy. I don't shoot it often these days - usually just those infrequent range trips with others for fun. I think I still have close to a thousand rounds squirreled away. If I intended to make 10mm part of my regular systems reloading would be part of that equation for sure.

Tacticaldoodle

I think there's a small group of dude buying for competition, some because they live in a crowded building, but the vast, vast majority just think they're cool and every last one of us wants an MP5 on some basic level. Cheap to feed and you can wail on steel targets closer in with less recoil, and you can play super delta operator with a sub gun. I think we all make some function excuse to sell the idea to the wife, but in the end most are just rad looking. Like the gray scorpion for $900. That thing rules.

Tacticaldoodle

The endo's so damn cheap at $35 I can hardly take it. Oddly enough you can find ripoffs of it on the chinese sites too. Never thought I'dd see that, you only save like, 8 bucks.

Anthony Schaad

Yep totally understand that TD , I honestly think they do look cool , cmmg banshee, the stribog , FX9 . I might get one some day, lord knows the owner at the gun shop me and my bro serve as range officers is tryin to get me to buy a banshee lol , I just haven’t caught the hype yet haha.

Erik Haw

I have the mpx and others have raved about the copperhead, but thankfully, it was mostly as what TD describes. Fun plinker, super cool as a MP5 substitute, but realistically it is heavy, and has limited scope and am really happy with Nutn’s last suggestion for a long slide glock. Maybe I should have got 3 of those vs one mpx. Doh!

Nathan P Hubsch

At that price you're better off with a Vector.

C0RLoCK

I just watched a video on youtube where a guy took the $35 Endo Glock brace adapter that only fits Gen 1-3, and sanded it down in 15 minutes to fit a Gen 4. Just thought I would share.
