Coming in lots of models, the Savage A22 series is lightweight and seems versatile.  .17 HMR, .22LR, and .22 Mag variations are offered and I got the last one for T&R.

It has a bunch of good things going for it:  low price, lightweight, xlnt accuracy, xlnt trigger and more.  Of course I'll have to note some downsides too and I'll give Savage a tip on how they could sell more!

Another free video to TNPP nation!

Always a savage fan, can’t wait to watch this one. Nutn sent ya a message. .22 rock by the way and I was a .22 hater at one point.

Connor Murphy

Xlint video as always. I love rimfires, I don't know why a lot of people don't like them.

Kenny Bridges

I’m stoked about your rimfire videos man! I love me some 22s! If you can get your hands on one, look at the Winchester wildcat. It’s hot off the press I think and looks interesting. I question it’s durability though as it’s completely polymer i believe. Would be interesting to see your take on it.

Todd Strelka

I enjoy a good 22 rifle review. It's fun to compare to my Ruger 10/22 Takedown and Kel-Tec SU-22. The table decorations are nice, BTW.

Jake Harvey

Never stop reviewing .22s! Apart from being fun, they are quiet, cheap to shoot and highly lethal with well placed shots. I'd be willing to bet a .22 in the eyeball has equal if not better stopping power than a 9mm to the torso.

Lon N

Fresh meat maker for sure. 22 WMR is worthy of the role. Good to see Savage isn't suffering from CMR30 syndrome.

Tygre

.22 Mag is one of my all-time favorite cartridges, all the way back to an old Winchester 9422M.

RowdyRon

Cool look at .22mag. Never really considered this cartridge. The only .22lr that excites me is the 10/22 takedown with the Magpul stock. Wasn't the problem you were having with that Savage trigger years ago, the fact that it was accidentally activating? Thanks Nutn.

Patrick Brichta

Now the question is, how long before a Ruger decides to really rip off the design and make a 22 Magnum in a reintroduced 10/22 style stock

Vincent

I don’t see it. I’m not sure there is really a space between .22LR and 556 for a BOK Rifle.

David Gaines

BOK is one of my favorite POU discussion points. Do you know what watch you were wearing at 1:15 in the video?

A Random Walk

Same here...at least for my needs.

Kenny VanCleave

I am a big 22 rifle fan. I have all the favorites, plus I've been picking up some 22 trainers from WWI and WWII. Their just so much fun and dirt cheap to shoot. Throw on a can and there aren't too many places to can't shoot it.

Kinoons

I’m trying to understand why .22 mag rifles keep getting made but a 5.7x28 doesn’t. Better round in every way, price is damn near the same, and the capability of the rifle goes up huge. Run the shorter barrel, threaded, and in 5.7 and you’re totally in business for a BOK gun.

DarkPassenger

I have a S&W M&P 15-22, Ruger 10/22 (both modded), and a Henry AR-7. In the role of BOK I think the Henry AR-7 would be a top choice.

BT24

22's dont get the respect they deserve. Everyone should have one.

I got a Savage a17 in 17 mach 2 for squirrel hunting. It never shot straight enough to kill a squirrel, seriously I think I got 1 squirrel with it. I did manage to get a hare with it but my headshot went wide and turned into a body shot and ruined half the meat; I am always willing to own up to operator error and it’s a distinct possibility but that is the only gun I have ever aimed for the head and hit the body. It jammed a lot too. Several hundred rounds later it jammed a little less and still couldn’t get a squirrel in the head at 50 yds. Maybe it was just me. I tried everything I could think of to make the gun shoot straight and it never did. I have had good luck with other savages and consider them to have great value with their guns. Might have been a variety of factors including me and that there is only 3 rounds still in production for the Mach 2. I switched to an anschutz, same caliber, and have had nothing but successful hunts and accurate target shooting if I can hold up my end of the deal. Love the review. Love your work. I hate to be that guy but Savage made the first gun with a rotary magazine so it was Ruger who stole the idea from savage.

Nathan Simms aka Darkpriest

I love 22 as a caliber. My favorite gun is a S&W M&P 15-22. Cheap to shoot, accurate, fun to shoot.

The Nutnfancy Project

"Wasn't the problem you were having with that Savage trigger years ago, the fact that it was accidentally activating?" Yes. Savage used to have a side load lock out on the AccuTrigger circa 2010. I railed on it and they got rid of it. The ATs now work great.

The Nutnfancy Project

Yes that was SMAEL Mudmaster clone with an orange strap. I have a Casio GG1000 that looks the same too. I love that orange color!

The Nutnfancy Project

Amen to that. I love the .22s, so fun. I ended up buying a Taurus TX22 btw, hopefully reliable out of the box!

The Nutnfancy Project

5.7 is a legit BOK cartridge, perhaps the best so far. I have that discussion several times in the reviews. Look at my Ruger 57 review, it's there. But it does weight substantially more (the ammo) so that is indeed a big downside.

The Nutnfancy Project

AR-7 is a good choice BUT I don't think it has higher cap mags for it that work. Pro Mag 25 rd mags as shown in the BOK series here work great on the Papoose.

The Nutnfancy Project

Good comment and I wish I'd had that info for the tabeltop, I would have included it. You are correct in noting that Savage had early rotary magazines, like the Model 99. I was thinking more in line with the polymer .22 removable variations that came out with the 1964 10/22

Kinoons

When compared to 22lr you’re right the 5.7x28 is much heavier, but so is everything. I didn’t think that 5.7 is that much heavier than 22mag, but perhaps I’m misremembering.

Hold Fast Joe

Neat review! Thanks! Too bad no paper, I love looking at accuracy testing! Far as msr15 I bought one after watching your review. The price was 500 new for the recon model so I took a chance. It's been reliable and no issues on my copy with accuracy. Couldn't be happier with it. I've put 2 cases, maybe 3 by now though it. Really enjoy it and the old mark 2 fvsr!

The Nutnfancy Project

Ruger did make a .22 Mag 10/22! 1998 to 2006. They are prized now by collectors. If I remember right they discont. it because they said it had some safety problems. It would sell again if they brought it back with the cool 10/22 variations we know now (take down, lightweight stocks, reliable).

Hold Fast Joe

Oh btw love that slide rule flight computer! I kept staring at it though out the review haha I'm a nerd lol

Phake A'Count

Bolt action .22!! Yay! ...I've got two CZs: one for 50 yards with tangent sights, one for 100 yards with a scope.

Phake A'Count

Oh, wait, it's an auto. ..I've got a 10/22.

Patrick Brichta

Agreed, that would be awesome. Keep the rim fire reviews coming, they're great! Thanks for the hard work!

David Gaines

Good information! Thanks for that comment!

Tacticaldoodle

Every home in america should finish the purchase paperwork by issuing every member over 12 a 10/22 to commemorate the occasion.

Carl Bailey

and maybe a SAA 22 revolver

Racing Psychosis

Ah....Nutn that was a Pontiac Firebird. I'll skip 22 Mag. Still loving my Marlin 39A and 10/22.

DarkPassenger

Okay Doc Holiday, how many protracted gunfights do you have with a .22lr? LOL. Just poking funny Col. Fancy. Seriously I agree with valuing magazine capacity but I have three mags on/in the gun and the bonus is the light weight and compactness. Wish there was a viable sling option other than a noosed para-cord - sort of Beverly Hillbillies belt style right? A Jettro Sling!

Cainnech

Hey Nutn any chance we will be seeing a Soldier boy vid any time soon. Would love to see Emerson from ur last gear check video have a go at it. We already know hes fully prepared, it would be nice to see him have the chance to test out his system.

Outrider950

With the Papoose in mind....I wonder if the HG from the 10/22 T/D pistol will fit the 10/22 T/D rifle. That might shed a few oz..

Aaron

Love those 22’s. My girls go through what seems like 100’s of rounds each time we hit the range. Not sure I could use that E6B any longer. It’s been awhile. Man, I miss flying. Thanks for another great video!

Adam Boyd

Nutnfancy: "I don't like killing things." Immediately kills a bug. Lol!😅

Anthony Schaad

Hey Nutn great vid and luv the project! I’m actually in the market for a 10/22 or maybe sumn like this savage . I have a Marlin model 60 with a boy scout medallion in the stock, beautiful gun but definitely more recreational/hunting. Just Want sumn I can load faster ... magazine vs tube fed. But anyway vids like these let me see others experiences with certain firearms I just don’t have so very much appreciated!

Mike S

Nutn, do you think you will do a review on the AR-7 at some point? I know they're not your favorite but it would be interesting to hear your opinion on it.

Mike S

Not sure why people are not interested in 22LR. rifles They're fun as hell to shoot and cost effective too. When the panic buying hit 2 months ago, the only ammo I could find at a price that wasn't inflated was 22LR.

Greg Chapman

Thanks for the review, and all the time and energy it takes to put out high quality content.

Ted C

Do more .22 reviews for the simple fact everyone should own one

David R Benkendorf

Winchester Wildcat is interesting. Just under 4 lbs, some neat features. Last shot hold-open, takes 10-22 mags. Not threaded, made in Turkey.

Nancy Merrell-Robertson

I enjoy the . 22 rifle videos enormously. So would you recommend . 22 MAGNUM for bugout rifles, at least sometimes?

David Goodridge

I’ve been wanting a Ruger American Rimfire compact in 22 magnum

Ethan Gill

Ever since I shot the winchester 190 semi-auto in 22lr when I was 9 and subsequently inherited it, I fell in love with rim fire rifles and the 22lr. I only own one other 22 and that's the Marlin 795. Both run flawlessly and the 795 is LIGHT. Honestly I also really dont understand why people dont love these in the TNP group either it's such an essential American system that anyone at any age can master.

Emerson Evans

I was hoping when I saw this in one of nutns sneak peek videos that this was going to be a great rifle review—I wish it performed better to how it looks cause I think it looks awesome ha

Daniel Ayres

Love all .22 and other small calibers. There very effective for specific tasks. Or just plinking.

Fabian Medrano

I’ve got to agree, I don’t understand why more people don’t love rimfire. Some of the guys I know that shoot occasionally say that they feel like it’s to similar to a pellet gun and just aren’t excited about it. I know it’s a generalization, but maybe for people that only shoot a handful of times every year they don’t see the huge cost savings and training advantages. I know there are serious shooters that still don’t like rimfire but maybe they are the exception? Just my observation from a tiny sample size so YMMV. Thanks for continuing to put out great rimfire videos.

Nancy Merrell-Robertson

I'm absolutely certain I'll be getting a Winchester Wildcat. I've watched many videos on them, and every one was positive. MORE than positive, the people loved them!

Pace Shelton

Driving down to the beach with my girlfriend in the passenger seat while listening to some nutnfancy videos and she says “Is that Fancy Nancy?” I about lost it.. she has endured and enjoyed many videos! After many mile markers go by she hears “Daddy Like!” And says “what did he just say?!”We both laughed so hard.. I realized how I did not think a thing about it after watching nutn content over the years. Nothing in your videos surprises me anymore. Hearing your uncensored humor helps me feel like a normal human being again! Thank you for creating quality content for so many years, you are a great influence on so many young men. Keep up the great work!
