We're going to back some some big knives in TNP!  We'll start off weak and then go strong...stay tuned!  I have some fun with the fact I shouldn't have bought this knife.  Yeah I have made some wrong turns.  We'll look at exactly why and then consider superior competitive options.  Don't get me wrong, Bark River has many GREAT blades but his one is a little off for my uses.

Knife show back to it's root

Speaking of disappointments. The gmt hand on my Glycine gmt watch isn’t tracking properly. Maybe it’s user error as there was no user manual in my box from my joma shop purchase. But I keep setting that hand to gmt time and it is not tracking at all. Edit. TY for saving me from my stupid nutn. Thought the gmt hand would track with the hour hand rather than along the 24 hour time. See, being patron to nutn brings you info on great deals and can even save you from an occasional stupid moment. 👍👍

Douglas Pack

damn brother. You coulda got a Randall 14 for that much money. Anyways. Love the KRVs. I’ll send you my Randall 14 if you do a review on it and send it back.

Pedro

When that box opened I thought “dang someone relabeled the chiefs knife as a woods use. Nutn got ripped.” Definitely 300 is high end, cool to see them once in a while.

Zachary Jackson

I’m still using my kabar 9 inch Bowie from shot show 2013. Bought it from watching tnp.

Gilbert Cuzdey Jr

I recently made a similar knife. I bought a Spartan Alala and the voice in my head told me I wouldn't like it. Sure enough I don't. Blade is too thick and it's too big for edc.

Robert

Looks like a kitchen knife.

The Nutnfancy Project

Really? Is the hand moving at all? Remember it goes around once per 24 hrs, different than the other hand. LMK

The Nutnfancy Project

I love Randall blades and want a Model 1 and a couple of others. I'm stacked deep in the steel right now for T&R but I will let you know about that Model 14. A kind offer, thanks.

The Nutnfancy Project

There's another BR KRV coming down the road here that's the same price, but I like it much better. Indeed this one has the looks of late night Ginsu.

Chris Sterbling

Love the BRK review. Nutn - would be happy to send you a knife for review I designed and which was hand ground by Matt Martin at the 2017 BRK winter grind-in and won their “Custom Knife Makers Award.” Happy to send a pic. One of a kind. Think Persian fighter.

David R Benkendorf

Still got my Crowell-Barker I got from you, cool to go watch the 2008 review and know I have that exact knife.

The Nutnfancy Project

Sure enough. I still make some mistakes...fortunately able to return most of them!

RowdyRon

Recon Scout for the win. Fit and finish look excellent on the BRK. When you opened the box, I honestly couldn't figure out what the POU would be for this one. First thing I thought was "kitchen knife". Thanks for keeping it real Nutn.

Todd Strelka

Is it possible that some knife designers are not users? Maybe they hold a prototype in their hand or make it have a pretty handle without testing hard use in real world scenarios. You can never go wrong with a Cold Steel knife. That's why I have many. 😁 Thanks for the review! Dude, that CS Recon Scout is a TNP museum piece!

Tyler Bassett

I too have ignored that little voice once or twice to my disappointment 🤦‍♂️ But you live and learn! Great KRV! Good to see some blades. Need to do another TNP special edition blade soon!

Zachary Jackson

Now that you’re doing high end choppers.. and chance you return to survive! knives and do a video on th GSO 12?

Chandler Theis

Nut'n I'm not sure you can/should send the knife back since you used it up in the mountains on video. Perhaps maybe you should sell it instead. Great vid though. Rock on.

Eschebone

I never would have even considered buying one of these, but I still ended up taking away some good insight from this vid. Great work, informative and thoughtful as always. Competitive options (or maybe "preferable options" in this case) have always been one of my favorite parts of your reviews, even more value and sometimes throws in a good curveball or reminds you of something we haven't seen in a while. Rewatched the old vid and ended up buying an SP5 because of the link. Also just turned off the monthly limit on my pledge... keep up the great work!

john milochis

Thanks mate for the honesty I just picked up a work tuff gear Mt Luguna and I’m really digging it

SeamasterSig

Jenna Martin of Vehement Knives (Skin Bender Leather Works) makes that sheath for Bark River, which meanwhile is using them on many different knives. The scout straps and fire steel loop can be easily removed, reducing unnecessary weight. CPM 3V is probably my favorite knife steel. It can take a lot of abuse, but it's not quite stainless, so some care has to be taken to prevent rust. I really dig Bark River's convex edges and find convex 3V easier to sharpen than, e.g. the S30V in saber grind on my all-time favorite EDC knife: the Benchmade 943 Osborne – to each his own :-) If you really want a genuine stainless super steel, then check out Elmax. It's almost as tough as 3V and highly stain-resistant. My personal favorite large hard-use knife is the Bark River/Dan Tope collaboration: the Bravo Tope Recon. I didn't care for the look of the harpoon blade at first, but once I had it in hand, it made perfect sense. It even comes with the same Jenna Martin sheath as the Aurora III.

Mobius 1

Any good large Gerber blades out there would you recommend? lol

Jacob Leage

Still abusing my OKC SP50 from 2012, purchased shortly after your review.

Guy Actual

7:27..... That's a nice Chefs Knife you have right there.

Ol Retired Fed

Great looking kitchen knife, but pricey. I was checking my wish knife list in Amazon. The CRKT Ruger Muzzle-Brake was marked down to $39. I went back to your 2018 reviews of it and it will be delivered today. Wait for the sales on knifes.

The Nutnfancy Project

I love the GSO series, I'll see if I can get one for testing. They are hard to find.

The Nutnfancy Project

This one one was kept virgin. The inset video shows testing on another Bark River blade, any guesses which?

The Nutnfancy Project

Thank you Dev for your kind support here, very humbled by it and I work hard to deliver high value in the content every month. Glad to hear you like the competitive options; the SP5 to this day is one of my all time fave backpacking blades. It's light for its size and chopping performance. And it's cheap which is a bonus!

The Nutnfancy Project

Great info Seamaster, thanks much! I too love the CPM3V and I agree on your rust note. Since this was filmed I had tested another BR Bowie in convex A2 and it did superbly. I will note this and the sheath origin in that KRV.

Connor Murphy

Dang, we haven't seen Bark River in TNP since you did the Trailbuddy and STS reviews circa 2013 or so. Way back when I bought a Grasso Bolo II on sale for $170 and still use it to this day, It's a great chopper.

Anthony Schaad

Love the sheets but dang... When you said the price n when I first seen the knife I thought Nutn you just bought an expensive kitchen knife lol. Which I’ve done the same thing , just with firearms ( Ruger American 45 ACP) soo a bigger waste haha . The most recent biggish knife I just got is the Spyderco Aqua Salt... already on multiple camping/kayaking excursions and is excellent !! As always Nutn great content !

Red dog 1

Nunt it looks like a dam kitchen knife. WTH. Listen to your inner voice

Red dog 1

But if you sent it to me I would totally keep it

Daniel Herb

Glad your saving me money nutn! thanks for keeping it honest for TNP

Mobius 1

Yessss. Dude you rock!

Adam Boyd

I'll stick with my Condor Atrox. But that one would be great with a Thanksgiving turkey!

Aaron Martin

This one is defiantly for cooking with Nutn lvl pro.

john milochis

Nutn you should check out some of the work tuff gear they make a quality product

Paul Griech

Nice of you to get mrs nutnfancy a Christmas present will look great carving that ham lol expensive kitchen knife absolutely nailed it I was thinking it when you said it haha 😂

Mike R

Like most everyone else I thought it looked like a kitchen knife, good to have a large KRV though.

Andrew Fox

Hey nutn! I think you might want to check out the Bark River Rio Grande. It has a big 10" blade and the smooth straight handle that you discussed. It looks like a custom version of the trailmaster. Seems right up your alley for a higher end woods blade!

Plumber Angelo

More KRVs! More KRVs! More KRVs! Love it

mike stevens

I always learn from your videos. thanks

Sheepdog

As soon as you showed it in the box, I thought "looks like a kitchen knife".

Logan Holmberg

Well as a consolidation if you don't take it out of the woods you could put the convex profile back to sharp and you probably DO have one of the coolest looking kitchen knives ever. I'd love to have that hanging with my kitchen knives.

SeamasterSig

I just realized that I "misspoke" in my original comment. Elmax is nearly tough as A2 and roughly as stain-resistant as S30V. However, it is much more wear-resistant than either A2 or 3V, so it should hold an edge for quite a long time unless you do a lot of batoning with it. In truth, A2 is about the most user-friendly knife steel I can think of that can still take a beating. You have to sharpen it more often than 3V, but it sharpens easily. 3V is just more of a good thing if you don't mind a little more work. As far as being "chippy", I've had that issue with both A2 and 3V, but typically only with the initial factory edge. I'm just guessing, but I attribute it to one or both of: edge brittleness due to slight overheating on the belt used to sharpen the knife at the factory and the fact that, unless you reprofile the blade, once you remove enough metal to sharpen past the chip then the new edge angle is less acute than before and can take a little more abuse.

david rockwell

Harkening back to your early knife reviews, every knife purchase I've made has examined handle length and weight. A full size handle adds significantly to comfort factor when using blade in real work environment. Thank you for the continued effort and dedication.

Jonathan Edwards

As soon as I saw the unboxing, my mind said, "His critique is going to be the short handle."
