Remington R1

Nicolas Royston

Thanks for the 1911 review! We can always use more large caliber/steel guns in the project. More exciting than the plastic stuff. Like the .44 you did.

The Nutnfancy Project

Yes Nicolas, I do like balancing it out. I have a couple more coming too. Thanks for being here!

David Gaines

I just can’t get behind the 1911. Unless it’s in competition (when polymer guns are handicapped in capacity to the arbitrary 10 round limit) the platform is so poor for SAWC I don’t know that I will ever be interested in one. Sure, they are smooth shooting but for the size and weight, I’ll pass. Just my opinion. Of course I will still watch, and very much enjoy the video regardless lol

Eschebone

I was pretty excited to see this review. Always heard (mostly) good things about the R1, but I was never sure how much I trusted the word of mouth, considering how biased for or against certain brands the gun community can be. Can always count on getting the straight truth from TNP, though!

Shawn Kuse

We all love our polymer pistols, but I love my 1911’s both in 9mm and 45. Always love a good 1911 review. Thanks Nutn! What watch are you wearing?

Mobius 1

Wonderful gun. As you know, I have a Sig Sauer 1911 full sized that I do EDC. I threw the Sig Threaded barrel on it and it works great! The thread protector is slimmer than the one on the Remington but just as finely machined when it comes to the serrations. As I mentioned to you before I had to send my Sig 1911 back to their shop for a minor fix and they had it back to be in under 6 days. Just as you said, their customer service is great! Here's to many more years of TNP!

RowdyRon

Excellent review. Looks like a decent pistol. So many to choose from around that price range. I have a Springfield R.O. Compact, and love that thing. I used to edc it, but switched to the XD-45 Compact. My son has a Sig 1911 that's really nice (pistol envy). Had to one up the old man. Bet that ammo cost would be double now with the crunch. Thanks Nutn.

You will always get a positive response from me for content involving The Holy Alter of Saint Cooper... =) . I have been casting lustful eyes upon Rock Islands HC series double stackers, the 10mm in particular. Figure this is a good spot to chum the water in hopes of a nibble.

I’ve had a 5” R1 Carry for about 4 years now and I think it’s a great value piece for all the features. I can’t say I’ve got thousands of rounds through it, but she’s been flawless since I’ve owned it. I’ve always been surprised that this 1911 hasn’t gotten more attention. I purely have it for 2nd cool reasons because everyone needs a 1911 to fondle!

Kenny VanCleave

Wouldn't carry a 1911, too heavy and rounds limited. But I do love my 1911's. I will always have one in my collection. Thank you Mr. Browning.

Tim Bone

Pretty incredible that Remington, with all their legal and bankruptcy problems, is still able to produce a great 1911 pistol. Maybe the love for the 1911 is what motivates the employees to do that? And don't forget they still produce that great green-and-white box ammo too that so many gun owners train with. I hope the company stays around...

Arthur Krieger

Even though I won't be in the market for a 1911 again for a long time, I can't get enough 1911 content. Good to see one more high-value option from Remington, for next time a friend asks me for a rec. Thanks Nutn sweet content as always.

Connor Murphy

Great video. Thanks man. Did you hear that Remington discontinued the Bushmaster, DPMS and Tapco brands so they can " focus on their core hunting and outdoor products" or some such thing. So sad.

David and Elizabeth

This positive review was a breath of fresh air. Honestly, we all but wrote Remington completely off. We hope they can continue to deliver quality products and turn things around. The more successful gun manufacturers there are in the market, the better it is for everyone. 👨‍👩‍👧❤

Lost interest when Remington sold out to The Freedom Group~ I bought a lousy .22 rifle during that period & it fell apart~ a fucking .22 fell APART!!! I have a lifetime ban on Remington regardless of what happens~ too many other choices out there. The R51 DISASTER reaffirmed my opinion~ best wishes from Las Vegas, your home of Shot Show

Racing Psychosis

Good review. I have Absolutely no interest in that gun. But a fun vid to watch. At this point in my shooting life, I'm completely over 1911's, completely lost interest in them. Revolvers a different story, leverguns different story.

Harold Galen McPheron

You need to try a Fusion Freedom 1911, they are all CNC milled parts, best 1911's for the money...

JDCoy

Manufacturers have stopped using blue loctite, because they are actively trying to drive TacticalDoodle nuts:) It's on purpose, and it's pure evil directed right at you TD. Don't stand for it!!!

I nearly got the R1 Enhanced but ended up going with the Springfield Range Officer instead, cause it being non-Series 70 which I thought was going to be important. The RO is very nice but I don't care for the rear sight at all and it's not easily replaceable, from what I've seen anyway. Plus I want a can on it anyway, and the R1 Enhanced I looked at had a threaded barrel already. Oh well, just need to get a threaded barrel and deal with the bunk rear sight.

The Nutnfancy Project

"I hope the company stays around" You and I both. I love Remington and root for their success...actually all gun companies. They are assaulted on all quarters and run on slim margins. That Rem gave us improvements in that 700 I reviewed and here again does it right bodes well.

The Nutnfancy Project

" Good to see one more high-value option from Remington, for next time a friend asks me for a rec." Thanks Arthur and you make a good point: that by watching the reviews you'll have recs ready to go for people you'll talk to. TNPrs that watch the content like you guys will be conversant in a lot of different gear items!

The Nutnfancy Project

I did hear that and it's very sad. I really hate to see Tapco go away, they had many high value great products and I always rec'd them.

The Nutnfancy Project

Totally agree D&E. I wasn't too hopeful when I picked this gun up from Gunnies but it surprised me. I'd buy one

The Nutnfancy Project

YEah that R51 was a miss and sadly I had to say as much (though I took heat for it). I'm going to review some old school Remingtons coming up and they're .22s. I think you'll like those.

The Nutnfancy Project

Yep lots of guy like that...done with 1911s. Thanks for showing up and watching as usual RP. How's the cart running btw?

Racing Psychosis

Not a problem, good value entertainment. Still racing in the karts, everything is fast this season so far, although Covid 19 claimed another regional victim cancelling the Rock Island Grand Prix in our neighbor to the south the state of Hellinois thanks to Governor Pritzker. Was looking forward to the 26th annual street race where race past the Library, Post Office, Federal Courthouse, local business and normally about 10,000 spectators. And also claimed the Quincy, IL Grand Prix in the Park, also a street race that we planned to race in. Thanks for asking.

Greg Malcom

I LOVE 1911s, but i agree, they are toys. Great fun but not a modern choice for self defense or war. I have the R1, and it's okay. My STI, Sig and Kimber 1911s are a lot more fun.

The Nutnfancy Project

Springfield puts together a good 1911, thanks for the input on the RO. I will try to remember it. I'll see if I can get a SA 1911 and review it later on; it's been awhile since we've seen it.

PracticallyCorrect

Your Taurus 1911 was the first TNP vid I ever saw (end of 2010 I think) and I was hooked! Been a TNP subscriber ever since... My favorite part of that vid was hearing you talk about modding the pistol being a father-son project with TD. Glad he and his hilarious commentary are still a big part of the project.

HappyFrancisMacomber

Dude great review. 1911 are such great shooters and ya don’t have to spend $3-5k to enjoy them - though the nighthawk and dan Wesson I’ve shot are awesome. My Kimber pro carry II is pretty and fun, but I prefer a longer barrel. I bought my my Sig 1911 Stx two tone maple grips when I first got promoted to a big management job - because it was beautiful and I wanted to hand it down someday. It slings 45 down range like butter! No pic rail, long barrel and slide, heavy, (great night sights actually) just pure 45. I’m 2nd cool happy every time I put it in hand. However, let’s all acknowledge they are a pain in the ass to strip down and clean!

HappyFrancisMacomber

Call me crazy but my sig 1911 just feels and functions better than my kimber. Love em both.

HappyFrancisMacomber

Mike - if you want happiness and haven’t already done this - go ruger 10-22 builds. Start with a takedown, magpul stock, replace with BX trigger, BCG, firing pin, extended charging handle, mag release, 25 rd mag (I really like the short 15), optics as you please. Check volqaurtsen. Go crazy and get a kidd barrel.

IndianaBen

Custom Firearm Products o rings (CFP Grips on amazon I think) Sometimes the grips just aren’t drilled right, cranking those screws down might not help, my Kimber Custom was like that. O rings between the bushings grips and screws is the fix for the rattle. So loctite AND o rings should be standard by now

Tacticaldoodle

There was an interesting post right when it happened, someone who worked there talked about the absolute state of mismanagement on scene. Whole bins and crates full of parts, finished years prior, languishing in pellets untouched. Conversions for the ACR with no one interested in moving them into stock, it seems like a standard white collar takeover that had no interest in actually running a business. They could've done a lot better if someone more vested went in and shaped it up, but that was never of interest to begin with I guess. Sad, I still have a thing for bushmasters, they were the next epochal SD longarm after the mini 14, they're part of the canon of civilian arms.

Tacticaldoodle

The R51 wasn't a TOTAl miss, I still think had they downsized it just a bit more, like 80%, it could have found a niche as a 9mm single stack PPK for the modern age, competing with the kimber glitter specials. It was different and interesting, which counts for something these days. (Intro sucked, but at this point every clean sheet build does. MCX, P320, P365, KSG, CMR, DesTech MDR, etc.)

Ricky Kurtz

Hey LTC, Love the watch, the presentations too. Lol Ricky from IBM

Ricky Kurtz

Hi LTC, I rarely carry a 1911. I have several customer handmade by Robar Companies design by members of LAPD SWAT. FYI 1911 is standard issue for LAPD SWAT. Ricky from IBM
