We have lost the PPQ, it's been discontinued by Walther. We'll start off with a satirical prayer of remembrance for that gun.  What we get in its place is the new PDP.

Now the PPQ endeared itself to many, especially with me and my audience. The PDP has some big shoes to fill and expectations are high. Sometimes we'll hate the replacement "just because" it's replaced what we loved and it's new. Maybe here you should give this newcomer a chance. Like you I was skeptical. Covered here with be the replacement philosophy as I see it and will pontificate for you the PDP features. You'll see lots of shooting done with the PDP and memories of the PPQ here in this popcorn length Nutnfancy GRV. Mrs Nutnfancy and Jardine were the helping crew in shooting it!

PDP features are impressive and in hand I think you'd agree. You'll see its impressive accuracy, reliability, construction, takedown, and ergos covered in my style. Just a couple of competitive options are shown because with the inserted in-field shooting videos, the review will be long enough. But in the end you'll probably be saying "it's not my Dad but you know what, he's a good dude"...the PDP.

DudeDudeDude

Just got some trigger time with this one. I struggled with my grip at first and the front sight was shaking all over the place when I pressed the trigger but the groups were nowhere near as bad as I expected. Once I got my grip a little better where the front sights was not wandering very much that thing turned into a tack driver.

Robert Avery

I have the PPQ Q5 match that I really love. Can't wait to check this one out.

Hold Fast Joe

These reviews must be stretching the budget. Thanks for continuing to press on!

robert mccrory

Damn i kept putting off buying it because $200 more than Glocks or some Sigs what should i do get z ppq or move on without getting a ppq? i have pps i love, ppk .22 just never pulled trigger on ppq

Greg Malcom

I was debating whether to get the PDP or the Q5 Match... Well timed vid. Thanks Nutn!!

Todd

Can’t get the video to load 🤷‍♂️

hoplite ⚔️

Excellent... Long Format GRV to listen to while I complete my shovelling and plumbing tasks at work today! Thanks Nutn! Thanks Truckers!

Andrettski

Q5 been on my list. Some Walther at some point. I've only shot my buddies CREED, which I liked, and that's their budget gun. He got it 4 years ago for $260.

Kevin Sanderson

Shot and carried the PPQ for years but always sold them and went back to Glock 19s. PDP came out and had all the features I was looking for. Glock sight compatibility, excellent red dot hub, great texture, I actually think the trigger is less awesome than the PPQ, but it’s got holster availability because Walther did their homework. The 4” compact is my EDC and I’m going to be getting a 5” full size for USPSA. I absolutely love this pistol.

Jeff F

Nutn, I went to my local LGS and held a new PDP. I honestly wasn't a huge fan of the new trigger and the grip was a little different. I don't think I'll add this to my Walther collection. That said, I'm hoping my brother will sell me his PPQ M2 so that I can have a second! Thanks for the vid and the review. Cheers!

Pedro

My buddies liked PPQ Q5 match so much they got the PDP since it looked more aggressive and was newer. They absolutely love their PDP and to me feels same as my PPQ just more blocky and rougher texture. To me it feels the same so not needing a upgrade, that’s high mark that the new one feels as nice as the last.

Pedro

I love my Q5 match. The slide cut outs looks superb and the blue trigger does it for me.

David Gaines

I’ve been waiting for this! I think Walther makes the most ergonomic pistols, hands down.

DisisSnake

Can we get a updated Tac Vest setup vid? Do you still advocate for chest mounted pistol etc etc.

Powernoodle

I love my 4" full size PDP. The incredibly ergonomic grip puts Glock to shame. [That hasn't stopped me from hoarding about 16 Glocks since the early '90s].

Lon N

Looks like a sweet pistol, a little more girth doesn't hurt a full size intended for OWB carry. Always grateful for a GRV, thanks Nutn - bonus points for reviews from Mrs Nutn and Jardine. Offtopic: Think Rumble, they are growing rapidly and have developed an affiliated non restrictive online payment system . Item 2) 6.5 Grendel?...some crumbs?

duroSIG556R

Something about the recoil with the ppq. I remedied mine with a dps recoil system. Perfection.

Ben H.

Excellent review

Andrettski

Nutn, I know you talked about it being snappy, but watching Jardine shooting it, I could barely see any muzzle rise. For whatever reason he had some monsta hand grip purchase on that PDP. I'm wondering if Walther will make a PDP 45, because I've been really looking into the PPQ 45, but might be worth the wait.

Charles Sagaser

Love my 9mm PPQ 5 inch. Never gonna sell it but I do like the PDP with the red dot cut.

Jonathan-James

Great review on a very interesting product. And totally enjoyed seeing Mrs. Fancy and Jardine in the testing. On a side note, you said PP 37 times.

Brad Fegan

Definitely a decent shooter. I will give it that.

squealer

So Tweasure your wuv. Wuv, that bwessed awwangement. That ....

Anthony Schaad

Sweet Nutn! I been thinking about getting one for a while but now that the Canik mete is out I don’t know which one to get lol. Awesome review as always, TnPr for LIFE !

Schmuckatelli

What is going on? Is this bizzaro-world? Nutn announces the release of a new special edition collectible TNP Cadet and no one even mentions it in the comments (except Joshua Pulliam)? I think I heard Nutn talking about some kind of gun in the background, but all I heard was there's a new TNP Cadet coming out.

Joshua Pulliam

I totally can’t believe no one else besides you has commented on that yet! I’m right there with you. Long GRV and all I heard was new TNP Cadet!

Schmuckatelli

I was literally so distracted when seeing the knife on the table that I wasn't paying any attention to the gun review. Yeah...that orange G10 is very cool. The Orange Crush Cadet.

bcbrin

LMAO!! "it's not my Dad but you know what, he's a good dude"

Kyle Fiss

lol I skipped ahead to hear about it.

Downtrodden

“Your mom’s dating some guy that’s not your dad.” (Cut to Jardine) Brilliant editing! Also brilliant on the leading question to Mrs. Nutn. Hilarious!

David Spinks

Awesome awesome review of the PDP (full size) Nutn. Like you I was bitten by the original PPQ bug (and I hold you fully responsible lol), I have a 9mm Navy, a 9mm 5", and a 45acp with threaded barrel. They are 3 of my favorite sidearms and I love the parts compatibility on the the 9mm's. The PDP was already on my radar to give me a 4" non-threaded barrel, OR slide, and the new grip/trigger- and your review inspired me to pick one up today. I can confirm that the 9mm compact PPQ's have full compatibility with regards to slides, barrels, and M2 mags. Also, the PDP compact with an empty mag falls right in between a Gen3 G19 and a Gen5 G19 in weight. The PDP slide is lighter than the PPQ slide, so that seems to be where the weight savings is. The PDP slide is a touch bulkier on the outside than the PPQ, but has more material milled out on the inside. On my sample of PDP, the trigger felt like it was in between the original PPQ and the VP9 (both of which I have for compatison). The PDP trigger has a more defined wall than the PPQ (more like the VP9 but lighter). On a side note, I also added a Mete to my rotation (thanks again Nutn! ☹) and I find the trigger on my Mete to be the best of the lot. All guns are individuals though.....

J Ram

You're not my real dad and you can't tell me what to do!!! (says the owner of a PPQ .45 ACP and .22LR, love that .45). Great review, good points re step-dad......maybe I'll give him a chance. lol

Lee Harrell [W5GCF]

Please tell us what gloves you're wearing. Are you going to review them?

Brett B

Nice hands mod on the Tag Heuer!

Nathan Simms aka Darkpriest

Honestly I love walther triggers. I just sold my PPS M2 to pick up a Sig P365, I will say I love my Caniks more, don't know why, probably because of price point ;-)

The Nutnfancy Project

First of its kind: the hand built G10 Victorinox Cadet in blue and orange! Releases here first in Feb...hang on

The Nutnfancy Project

Detailed comment David, thank you! I of course will always revere the PPQ...but the PDP is interesting creature that delivers surprising performance.

Jordan Parker

I've always desired a Walther pistol, maybe this is the one for me. Thanks Nutn!

Nathan Simms aka Darkpriest

you killing me not listing me as an elite sub, but I forgive you. This endura is awesome dude I carry it like everyday. I'll be sending you them to sign soon enough!

Dean

Wow Nutn, I almost never here anything about the Heine straight eight sights. I found the sights helped produce the quickest means to get sight alignment and to get on target. Shout out to Mrs. Nutnfancy - she hits the steel more than I do.

Mardy Stevens

Love my PPQ…looking to add this one to my Walther collection

Iowa Dave

I picked up a PDP at a store last summer and found it too chunky for me. I think that with the PPQ out of production, the closest replacement might be the HK VP9.

Schmuckatelli

There's a blue one too? Dude! Nutn has tapped into my inner child. When I was a kid, I wanted all of the Star Wars figures. Now I want all of the TNP blades (and I still want all of the SW figures too).

Racing Psychosis

Still not into Walther. The G19 is still never the wrong answer. Even my Polymer 80 is essentially a G19. Do love the TP9SF, it was dirt cheap and is amazing for the cost. I'm good on handguns and will pass on this Walter yet again. Cool review.

Josh P.

I was eyeing the pdp a while back I’m lookin for one! It’s a beautiful pistol, I have the tp9sfx and I love it, it’s basically the Walter knock off. Great vid Nutn!

Daniel Herb

Nutn, the PDP or the Canik METE...... I already have the PPQ and a Canik SFx but was really interested in another full size combat pistol.

hoplite ⚔️

Damn… got me hunting for a PPQ LS now.

Cory Risseeuw

I have always thought Walther was good stuff. The PDP is ugly though. But with your review I am thinking about getting one.

Rob Rizzo

Good luck finding the long slide, I have been looking for almost a year. They don't show up that often. At least when I can afford it

Trey

Great video. Very excited about the swiss army knife dropping soon.

Rogue Weasely

I passed on all of the sweet spyderco blades you have realized recently... But I can't pass on these victorinox cadets!

Dione Kollee

Great, honest review. It takes a solid pistol to get Nutn excited. I used to work at a gun store in CA & we had one come in for LE. Felt great in the hand & it looks heavier than it really is. It was great to see Miz Nutn excited about it as well!

CincinnatiDan (Ohio)

Every month my credit card tells me a donation went out to Nutnfancy yet i never see my name scroll up the screen… I don’t really need a thank you but as long as your giving them out, is it wrong to want to be included?

hoplite ⚔️

He’s got me browsing the black series Star Wars toys too..

hoplite ⚔️

There is totally a mystic around the brands and products. I want to add one too. Thinking a PPQ before it’s too late.

Derek W Tiller

i absolutely love my ppq. your glowing review of it back in the day was the reason for me snagging one!

JDCoy

I have the Q5 Match, and the Canik SFX, and a Canik SF Elite, and now the five inch PDP with the 15 round grip size. The great thing is that all these pistols work perfectly with twenty round Canik mags. Stock up on those twenty rounders:)

The Nutnfancy Project

Tough choice between those two but here's my answer: if weight is an important factor then go with the PDP. If you can take a few extra ounces the METE. Both are outstanding GTW pistols I will trust in my own systems. Also consider if you have either of the series as indicated by JDCoy.

The Nutnfancy Project

I thought the same thing but man is it a shooter. Try to shoot one before you buy maybe.

The Nutnfancy Project

Yep these should sell pretty quick, they are pretty limited, just 600 of each, release date is 17 Feb

Ryan P

Held a PDP today. Didn’t feel as good in hand as the PPQ to me. I had a PPQ 5 inch but was forced to sell it as a poor 2d Lt years ago, now the only ones I can find are the Q5 Match models which are at least $800. Will definitely be keeping my eye out for a nice used PPQ 5 inch.

The Nutnfancy Project

Both are really xlnt, hard choice really. Being discontinued the PPQ will be more special.

The Nutnfancy Project

I like wearing expensive watches once in awhile to show I know what they're about. I'm still a value watch guy.

Matthew Hargis

Thanks Nutn. My wife and I love the PPQ. I was able to shoot a buddies PDP 4” compact this past summer after it released. Loved it. My Canik mags worked in it just like they do in a PPQ M2. Another positive for it.

Richard Leonard

Good review, but I'm still not sure about useing red dot's on a pistol. I'm sticking with my PPQ and PPS 40 cal pistols for a while.

Josh Mullins

Nutn, I really do recommend you give pistol red dots another shot at some point. Try something like the 507C with the ACSS reticle. If you have proper eye alignment it'll just function normally. If you're off, the large outer ring helps correct you and give immediate feedback on where your dot is at.

Daniel Ingoglia

Man, that thing looks like a great gun. Wish I had an option to buy it, thanks California.

Casey Jones

I have a PPQ threaded Navy addition. I LOVE IT. I wouldn’t mind getting a PDP, funds just won’t allow. I’m at the same quandary as Nutn: do I buy a PDP or G17? I’ve already got a G45. So many great guns, so little money. Listen to me whine about my American problems.

LoneWanderer360

I really had a tough time deciding between the PPQ and VP9. In the end, I liked the feel of the VP9 better and shot it just a little bit better. My dad bought a long slide PPQ though and everyone loves it.

Patrick Richards

So excited for the new release! I missed the first cadet!

hoplite ⚔️

I think I may have scored the last PPQ LS in Canada. The couple used options I looked at first didn’t work out but found one online retailer with one in stock. Can’t wait to take it to the range. First LS. I went huntin after Nutn mentioned it was discontinued.

matt

PPQ was my first center fire handgun I have M1 version and an M2 version. Love that gun. PDP LOOKS LIKE A GREAT ONE. Might have to add one to my Walther colection. I Have 5 so far. Thank you for all the work you do nutn

Mike R

I was never a fan of the way the PPQ looked, but always wanted to try one cause of you and everyone else loving the trigger and accuracy. Though I like the looks of the PDP so I’ll have to get one at some point. Can’t wait for the TNP knife release and great review as always Nutn!

Damionjr

I bought a PPQ SC before covid really was in full lockdown mode. It was/is hard to find magazines for it. Amazing trigger!

Kirk Fickert

I wonder if there won't be limited production runs of the PPQ in the future. They still do them for the P99. I can't remember if it was 2020 or 2021, but Walther did a limited production run of P99's. I know I picked up an extra as my other two P99's have round counts on them both now after 20 years. I know everyone says "Glock", but I have two decades of training and bought 100 of the SW99 16 round mags when they hit the liquidators about 6 years ago as S&W were clearing out their new old stock stuff.

The Nutnfancy Project

Both are really xlnt, can't go wrong with either. They are very similar. If it counts for anything though, I hit better with PPQs

Matt W Plank

I just purchased a PDP. It was between the new Canik Rival (unreal trigger), the Shadow Systems DR…or the PDP. I already have a Canik SFX9A and about 12 Glocks. I unwisely never purchased a PPQ, so I wanted the “stepdad.” One thing I noticed about the sights and something I appreciate is the THIN front post. While there may be some air, that precision made for 1 inch groups at 10 yards. It’s magical for me. Hey Nutn, when are you airing the Taurus GX4 review? I bought one as a “who cares” gun if I have to leave it in my vehicle for whatereason. I actually like it as much as any of the others. It is 600 rounds reliable and is as accurate as any of them. I look forward to your take! Thanks as always!

Raymond Franchi

Do you think the snappiness of the PDP maybe due to the tapered chamber. The tighter fit doesn't allow gasses to escape through the breach area resulting in increased power and velocity through the muzzle?
