Fantasy Boat! Grumman Albatross

Comments

Brad Fegan

That's pretty neat. Heck ya! I am for it. I'll help pay the gas for the trip 😃

Patrick Richards

Bug out floatplane to land in a high mountain lake where you have a cabin would be cool!

Jordan Parker

Loving the aviation content in the past few days. Short or long format, I enjoy listening to your commentary on these aircraft and learning more about each airframe. Thank you Nutn

Spencer

I've always loved the Catalina and learning about its operational use in world War 2 in the pacifc and Atlantic. I've also dreamed of converting one into a flying Rv. That new albatross looks pretty amazing too

Kinoons

I’m right there with you on the flying RV/boat. Would love to have a PBY. More realistically I’ve dreamed about a lake 250 flying boat for alpine lakes and camping. Or pacific islands. If money was free.

Douglas K

Lovin the aviation vids

Jeremy doblinger

Can you imagine nutn doing gear and gun reviews with this plane!! Omg that would be sick AF! LOL

Rick Grad

We gotta pump those Patreon numbers up, so we can get a TNP plane!!

Greg Malcom

Cool vid. Saw these at air shows growing up.

Greg Malcom

No sense of smell... a medical doctor we know got sick of his food tasting strange and poor sense of smell a year out from covid, so he took ivermectin and it came back fully. You might try.

Tomcat503

Thanks Nutn for another great ARV...especially one on a Grumman aircraft!

Brandon conley

I can’t wait to watch. When I was a kid I wanted a Grumman Goose! Later I got more realistic and wanted a Lake. I grew up watching Disney’s Tailspin. It was a great show.

Chase Ferguson

I would sign up for the party plane trip!

PATRICK C BUBB

Cool... Loved video. I know the smell; brings back cild hood memories

DirtyPhil

Love the tailspin reference- the sea duck !

DirtyPhil

Cool vid- if like more on flying boats vs float planes and an in depth video on the PBY- Greg’s airplanes and automobiles channel has a cool video- talks about service life and replacements in WW2 and beyond

Schmuckatelli

High-quality educational aviation review video. Really appreciate the Patreon-only content. Would love an ARV coupled with USAF stories about Uncle Nutn's days behind the stick.

Lance L Black

Would this not be the ultimate Fly Fishing rig?

RowdyRon

First time I've ever seen someone throw an anchor off the nose of the "aircraft". All this coolness, AND an F-15E at the end! I worked on those almost my entire time in the USAF. Thanks Nutn, love the aircraft tours.

Robert Harper

Awesome! Quick turnaround on the mini plane review, so cool!

Trevor V. V.

As a career pilot, I am loving the airplane videos!

Jack Davis

Excellent ! Loved the video! Oh, the things we could do if money were not an issue!!

Jon GA

So cool watching the Grumman Mallard transition from glassy water to the ramp. I’ve never seen that. Applying full right rudder. So cool! For the TNP party, maybe you could rent one for a long weekend and sell tickets for a couple thousand. Controller.com has a few mallards starting around $275k. Probably need a type rating! Check out the ICON A5 for a modern design GA float plane.

Moe Mansour

These mini overviews are great! Unrelated... I just realized the genius of the TNP Cadet. You made the blades replaceable so we don't have to keep it as a safe queen. We can use the carp out of it. And the serial number is on a tool we rarely put wear on. Brilliant!

The Nutnfancy Project

Thank you. I like doing content that won't be hard on your credit cards once in a while.

Not many people know that I own a Grumman. She’s a little rough but she’s reliable and one of the finest 17’ canoes you’ll ever paddle. Really enjoy these aviation reviews. My grandfather was a flying farmer and later became an airport manager. My mother solo’d a J3 but stopped flying to pursue nursing. I grew up near an airport and could always hear something interesting. The space shuttle riding piggyback was amazing to witness. Also seeing the An-225 years later at BDL was a highlight. RIP

Grumman G-73T Mallard. Chalks Airline. I lived in Fort Lauderdale and flew on Chalks to the Bahamas. Amazing experiences. Sadly, Chalk's maintenance was sub-par, resulting in their one and only fatal crash on 12/19/2005, when the starboard wing separated from the fuselage off the coast of Miami. Salt water corrosion doomed the aircraft. However, I would not hesitate to fly again on one. Transitioning from land to air to sea is remarkable.

Griff

Ultimate party plane. I have long dreamed of adventures in an Albatross. When in high school my friends dad was seriously looking at buying and RV outfitting an Albatross to dive on some of sites left over from his Dads time serving in the Western Pacific with Patrol Bombing Squadron 109. They did the trip but not in Albatross. I also like the ShinMaywa US-2, recently used in the Cope North 22 exercise. If I remember correctly, a commercial operator had a Mallard upgraded to turbines for flights to Bahamas. Tragically, Mallard had structural failure after take-off leaving no survivors. I sure hope Amphibious Aerospace Industries is successful in reinventing the Albatross. Thanks for the content

Obviously Nutn, there’s 20ys worth of mini vid content at the museum in Dayton. I swung through last year and the WWI and WWII examples were excellent. Very impressive, the last time I was there as a kid, the examples were not as wide and deep. I’ll post some pics for the guys on the community page

I love the aviation videos! I would love to hear your perspective of current goings on in the aviation world as well.

GarageJim_RMB

Great Video, as I kid my dad had big boats and almost every weekend we would go to Catalina Island, at that time there was Catalina Airways and they had some of these flying boats. We would watch them come into Catalina and Avalon Harbors land and unload, then turn around load and take off. You are correct about take offs, especially if there was any kind of rolling sea. Thanks for the memories!!! Bravo Zulu!!!!

Stan White

That thing is awsome. Always thought float planes were cool.

David Leung

I think the Japan defense force still use sea plane for search and rescue, I believe it's called ShinMaywai?

Spenser Weese

Cool video. I was fortunate enough to interview one of the few remaining survivors of the USS Indianapolis a few years ago. I tagged along with my grandfather at one of his Navy meetings, hence how I met the survivor. James Wesley Smith. Very interesting man with a very interesting story! He was one of the first survivors loaded into the PBY Catalina when it finally landed for rescue. This video reminded me of our discussion.

Derek W Tiller

was in palm springs about a month ago and went to the air museum while i was there. kept on thinking what a great place it would be for you to make a video. so many cool planes!

Anthony Schaad

Sweet plane Nutn! Fantastic content as usual!

Nathan Simms aka Darkpriest

Do you know how much I'd pay for my ticket if you fly a group of TNPers somewhere in one of these bad boys?

david rockwell

Cool aircraft enhanced with insightful commentary. Thank you for the continued effort and dedication.

Aaron

Great pic of Chalks! Still flying out of Miami SPB. Aviation…Everyday. Live it…Breath it…Love it!

Steven Salina

Light sport aircraft are really hitting the amphibious market hard with models like the Icon A5 and the Seamax.

Chris carr

You boys fly it up here in Alaska, we can put a float plane to use up here

whiskey papa

Get outta here! That ramping at the end was awesome!

Bluegill097

Definitely enjoyed learning something new!

Tacticaldoodle

Hey, I'm pretty sure grumman made the mail trucks too!

Tacticaldoodle

There's a little business working on a pretty cool looking seaplane, the Privateer. It probably won't come to nothin', since it's just in prototyping now, but you neer know. We might see some excitement come out in the market in the next few years as seaside aviation becomes more high-profile, maybe even a trickle-up from those piloted drones they keep talking about

ThisTruckingGuy

Yes !!! Love this video. I've been saying the same thing about "house / boat / planes" for years. Been eyeballing the Viking CL-415 ariel firefighter. Looks like it could be easily modified for " water rescue, " aka "house boat plane." There is the slight, ehem... $36m price tag....

David Elkins

I want one. Think GiveSendGo can help me out?

B05T0N22

The B29 in front of you, “Miss America ‘62”! My grandfather was one of the mechanics for that bomber when he was on Tinian - my grandmother’s name is painted on the side of the #1 engine!

Tim Talbot

Jimmy Buffet used to have one of these.

N8TRON

Lovin the content! New patron here

CincinnatiDan (Ohio)

11:35 i was so focused on the pilots rudder inputs, full right rudder, when landing and “roll out” i missed the gear coming down… so cool!

Jesse (Sphinx)

Cool video. I always thought the boat planes were the coolest...remember the TailSpin cartoon? That helped reinforce the image!

Gilberto Esquivel

Saw a documentary on the U.S. Army Air Corps (Air Force...whatever..) 4th Emergency Rescue Squadron...They said that it was one of these "Duck Boats", I think it was a PBY not sure, that was the last plane shot down in WWII over Japan...Still one of the most amazing pieces of aviation technology ever dreamed up by humans! I think it should be brought back too...
