TNPr Gear Check: Gotcha!

Comments

Greg Malcom

Love gear checks. I know you said no one wants to go on camera because they fail so badly. What percent get an A or B would you say, Nutn? My guess is 20%.

The Nutnfancy Project

That sounds about right Greg. We did have a string of guys getting great grades for awhile. I think I'll hang out at outdoor stores in a chair seeing if guys say hey then whamo.

I think he meant that iron workers don't wear watches because they can get caught on stuff and injure you. I used to be a pipefitter. Some jobsites wouldn't let you wear rings, watches or necklaces. They'd even make you take the draw string out of your hoodie. My uncle actually fell and caught his wedding ring on a bolt. Almost pulled his finger right out.

I very much enjoy the gear checks. I think a lot of guys have good intentions, but maybe if you did a vid on program compliance it would help motivate guys to keep their carry up all the time when they leave the house. You have to change your mind set to "Every single time." I'm sorry, if you have to go to Circle K for a bag of ice you have to do the whole deal. No flip flops or basketball shorts. You have to put your big boy pants on every time or else the time you need it is the time it ain't with you. Also get a Kore Essentials belt. If you want to carry the right gear a really rigid belt makes all the difference.

Such a great conversation. Thanks for sharing. We love the gear checks.

Totally enjoyed the gear check. Thanks Nutn and to the TNPER willing to go on camera for it. Like Soldier boy, I’m assuming it’s not bread winning content. But they are easily in my top 5 as far as TNP content goes.

Jonathan Owens

Another great video! Love the gear checks, even if they fail. I live in Athens, Ga, so the chance of getting a TNP gear check is pretty much never going to happen, but every time I go out, my wife always laughs and says I’m “getting ready for my gear check”. She gets it and I love her for it.

M Herby

Gear checks are definitely some of my favorite videos. I’d love to see more if you get a chance to do it. Watching gear checks over the years has definitely helped me up my EDC game. Keep it up Nutn!

Bryan Palmer

That would be my luck! Run into nutn when my edc is weak! LOL

Kyle weyerbacher

Great to see the gear checks again. Hey Nutn, do you still use Honeyville for your long term food? Loved that series, and the water storage videos.

HairyPost

You don’t want to sell it do you!! Lol

Ryan seems like a solid dude! I’m working in a (blue)state where I’m not licensed to carry and I feel completely vulnerable. Might not let that stop me next time. I carry for the sake of my family. My wife gets lazy on her gear checks when she knows I’m always carrying! Today I have a Phoibos, Delica, Juice S2, olight i5R (Warrior2 in my bag), and a Swiss card.

An update on home preparedness would be awesome.

Great guy, but Nutn, you were mighty generous with the B-. I was thinking C- B4 you gave your grade and then kept hearing all the guns Brian has sold off, that alone should dock him a few points(haha).

I would pass with FLYING colors for EDC! in NJ that is.. Nutn wouldnt be caught dead trying to gear check me in this garbage heap of a state. The laws are so bad and impossible to keep up with its not worth trying to apply for CCW permits and being out $300 or more. Then in two measly years you have to apply all over again?!? criminals have more rights in the northeast. keep up the good work and giving us content!

Hold Fast Joe

I can tell ya similar rules likely apply in machine shops if they're smart. Had a lathe grab my sleeve once and it hurt pretty bad sucked me in and smashed my arm against the part before the sleeve tore. Ya figure it out over time lol

Moe Mansour

Ouch! Glad you made it out of that one okay. Mentorship is super important too. Your close call can save someone with less experience from putting themselves in that position.

“Milk Man” Matt Moore

Nutn’ come on down to God’s country here in the Lone Star State. I daily EDC AWIB an 8” Anaconda! 🤣

Rob Miller

That was nice. Enjoyed watching it. He knew his stuff.

Had a worse one where I got crazy lucky. I had the wrench in the lathe chuck tightening up a part getting ready to spin it. I had the wrench in there both hands on it when a kid of a customer wasn't being watched and snuck up behind me pulled the red handle which turns on the lathe. It whipped the wrench down and it was just in a perfect position that didn't catch my fingers breaking them. It's hard to explain in text here but dang, I nearly had 8 fingers and 2 thumbs busted. I learned to power off the machine or keep my foot on the brake when turning the wrench after that one haha

TLDR; the only real reason I am still here is because of family. I love it here for all the convenience to anything you want. within 15 minutes of any entertainment, food, ect. it just has some real backwards laws, especially pertaining to 2nd amendment rights. so we were able to have a real right to carry for like 3minutes before our government decided to slap another hurdle in front of that, aka sensitive places.. and the back and forth of that is too much to keep track of. what really baffles me is that these restricting laws get slapped into place very quickly and easily, yet theytake years or decades if they even get truly challenged. there no way any1 can know all of the laws on the book. the common man/women does not know if they are are doing something illegal because there are too many laws. laws should be only, 1 you cannot harm some1 physically, mentally, monetarily ect. 2 cannot cause property damage, 3 everything else is permitted.

Love gear checks. Always ask myself before leaving the house, would I get an A on a gear check. Nutn, you've influenced my life for the better now for many years.

kylenor

Awesome! Always love the gear checks!

Moe Mansour

Dang that's close! I would have been pissed. I've seen similar incidents with rotating equipment. So, I can picture what you're saying. Been in construction almost 20 years now and I've witnessed some ridiculously close calls. Where guys come out totally fine but a half inch to the left and their entire world would have changed. Always amazes me how fast it happens.

Number one bucket list item: getting gear checked by Nutnfancy. I would be willing to die for the chance.

Christopher B.

The M11-A1 he's talking about the end is the modern re-issue of the P228. It is basically a P229 without the 1913 rail. It has a milled slide like the regular P229 and only works with magazines labeled P229-1. P228/P226 magazines will not function properly in this gun. Which sucks for me because I had to go out and buy more P229-1 mags when I already had a lot of P228/P226 mags. It's still a great gun though... a great trigger and it came with e2 grips.

My favorite part of TNP…GEAR CHECKS…Its where the rubber meets the road with guys from our community. Thanks Nutn you are the best.

Pat McGroin

SoCal checking in. Love me some gear checks. Well done Brian. I seldom carry a flashlight in the daytime. Firearm, Knife, Period.

Jesse (Sphinx)

I had an M11-A1. Sold it and wish I'd kept it! I have an assortment of knives and flashlights that I use depending on outfit/pockets I have. A gun is always on me if I'm out (even walking, biking, or jogging). Never carry a multi-tool on person--it's always in the get-home/daily carry bag.
