In field reviewing the $30 "FEIT Electric" flashlight from Costco. Like many other "military spec special operations" lights "now available to civilians," the FEIT promises impressive throw. It makes one think "Why do I need to spend $190 on a high power light when this one will do for $30?" Uh huh, we'll see about that.

But there are seemingly a plethora of "spec ops" lights now that show laser beam performance to silly distances. Uh huh. I choose this Costco-marketed FEIT, representative of such, to make my points. Strap in.

I sneak up on a doe deer pretty close to where we are; she's my gentle assistant in many NV testing scenarios.  Speaking of which: I found her with the AGM Sidewinder 640 thermal monocular reviewed here & still highly rec'd: https://youtu.be/V6jAxJxHi_Q

This FEIT light is big and cumbersome and features regrettable materials and performance beyond 25 ft. Also in attendance to prove this point in this stealthy review is an Olight Javelot, the incredible proven throw light in TNP. Subsequent versions are even better than the one shown.

Philosophy and rants keep the review going and you should like the inserted thermal video of our deer just a chillin' 75 yds away.  J

This Costco Light Totally Sucks

In field reviewing the $30 "FEIT Electric" flashlight from Costco. It presents itself as a "military spec special operations" light "now available to civilians." There are many "special operations" lights like this being marketed the same and they all promise mind blowing performance. Uh huh. We'll see about that. To demonstrate my points, I sneak up on a doe deer pretty close to where we are. I found her with the AGM Sidewider 640 thermal monocular reviewed here & still highly rec'd: https://youtu.be/V6jAxJxHi_Q This FEIT light is big and cumbersome and features regrettable materials and performance beyond 25 ft. Love Costco pricing but sometimes they have some products that really $#!+ the bed. Gonna rewatch the Javelot review. Batons and i3ts in edc rotation. Thanks for the deer stuffie links..

Can’t find original Javelot review..

My Dad has a tendency to find lights like that and get excited. He knows I’m into gear and have very high value edc tools and such, but sometimes I wonder if he’s listening when I talk to him about them. He’s on a fixed income and certainly $150 for a flashlight would be a major expense for him, but it’s kinda amazing how differently we value tools like this.

Search Javelot in patreon … Edit: ah I guess that’s the Javelot TAC, which is different

Rick Grad

90% of the people I know buy the crappy led flashlights in a 3 pack for $20. I stopped trying to sell them on quality lights when they kept losing lights I would buy them as presents.

Todd and I went to Costco a couple of weeks ago and this caught my eye there. I asked myself the same questions which you brought up in this review. I am glad that I didn't waste my money.

Greg Malcom

Thanks for saving me money Nutn!

Ever since I got into Olight, I’ve turned into something of a flashlight snob. Not that I think Olights are the be-all and end-all of flashlights, but they are leaps and bounds better than what you’ll typically find at places like Costco or Home Depot. I just look at those, perhaps reach back to fondle the Baton 3 Pro Max in my back pocket a bit, and think, “Nope.” But so many people are unaware that there is anything better.

I have a Red flag for ya! When you meet a really hot chick and she’s flirting with you- a lot, something is up. I recently driving Uber and this super hot chick sits shotgun and starts pouring it on heavily. I was trying to figure her out. Chicks like this never put in effort. I figured it out too late. SHE STOLE MY FENIX PD36!!! I loved that light, so pissed, still pissed 😤

Racing Psychosis

That's a good light, better than that O-Light crap.

I've had good experience with Coast. I have one EDC light and one headlamp. The EDC was a random buy, but for the headlamp I did lots of research and comparison. The headlamp is super lightweight and functional. Both lights have a manual focus to dial in the light from beam to flood - love that feature. I plan on my buying more Coast products.

Yeah, that's the one I came up with when I searched too

Racing Psychosis

Oh but its a Costco/Box Store....perfect market is the Soccer Mommy/Daddy

I have a couple of the olight LEP lights on my LR rifles. LEP is technically a laser, but its white light. People talk crap about olight, but i have had zero issues with any of my lights. I really like their IR series (Which I believe they have discontinued) for use with my NODs.

When the video started, I thought you were messing with us and we’re about to fart

Steelhorses

It's always a trap. You got off easy

Steelhorses

I saw that light and was extremely tempted. But my experience with cheap china flashlights they've always let me down, totally unreliable for any serious use. Thanks for continuing to bring us these reviews!

Andrettski

Which PD36 light(s) do you guys rec? I'm not usually into tail switches. I'm not using it as a weapon light.

"... but they are leaps and bounds better than what you’ll typically find at places like Costco or Home Depot." Agree. Esp. us long time users of their lights; we've just learned about proper lighting and got used to it. When we see less, it's irritating to us..ha ha.

The Nutnfancy Project

A hot light thief! That's a new play, I'll be watching out of that. Oh wait a sec, I don't think I have to worry about any hot girls coming to me good lights or not lol.

Racing Psychosis

In wintertime I carry an older PD35 that has the crenelated bezel and also a crown that protects the end cap tail switch in my jacket pocket. On/off and momentary on are activated with the tail switch and six lighting modes are selected with the side switch. And its ~5 1/2 inches long, great for a hammer fist. And yes tail switch is perfect for coupling with a handgun.

Ol Retired Fed

I have never had a problem with an Olight product. The Baldr S and PL-MINI are great pistol lights. Olight is having a sale right now with some big cost savings on light bundles. Just spent some money yesterday.

Shyt Nutn’…. Money, good looks and status will only work so far. My secret sauce is to resist the urge to impress her, never validate her and be too busy for her because you’re slaying dragons 75% of the time. The hot chicks ~will~ show up! The only problem is, when they’re chasing you, they act like an annoying little sister! 🤷🏼🤦

Chris Marchi

The great Indian warrior Smackaho says that is a very bad Jackalobe hunt.

Chris Marchi

He did think that the Cosco light might work better on a Squatch hunt.

Seeker Keyl

Bad reviews are a fun change of pace from the otherwise excellent products on display in TNP. My pocket book thanks you.

Foghorn

I probably sold a couple of Javelots this August from using it at a gathering of my friends.. they were amazed a what It would do.. Very happy with mine after a few years use..

Bret Smith

Yeah, I bought one on Amazon, same light, different name slapped on the box, for use on our boat. Not serious use, just for finding stuff in the sail locker and laz, lighting up the sails to see the tell-tails, etc.

Please review diving flashlights, also Garmin descent g1.
