ENGLISH/ESPAÑOL

After working hard this week, we have a new Zeru post!

At the beginning of the week, we sew the arms and legs to the body  to leave that part completely finished. We decided to wait to sew the head pieces so we could remove them if they bothered us when working on the mane patterns.

Once the body was sewn, we started to work on the part that we had been expecting so much, the faux fur mane. At first we were a bit lost, we didn't know where to start or what to do, because we had never done something like this. The other plushies we've made with faux fur were Volcarona and Larvesta and in both cases we only had to wrap a part of the plush with faux fur. But this time we had to make different shapes.

After analyzing our references, we decided that the mane would be divided in two types of pieces. First, a big piece that would be the base of the mane. And then, several small pieces that would act as bangs and would help give the mane a better shape. In total it will have two bangs on each side plus one on the back of the head. Also, with this piece combinations we will be able to make the colour changes like the customer wants them.

We started making a base for the patterns with newspaper and tape, like we've shown some times. We got some base patterns from that and started to work with them. Then, we added the bangs on each side.

For being our first test it was okay, but we weren't convinced at all. The side bangs looked too big and the base piece wasn't visible from the front at all. So we decided to make another test with a shorter and pointier base peice and smaller bangs.

Now that we've explained our process, we can comment our results a bit with the help of the pics we posted. We've used black fur for the tests so we didn't waste the right colours. We also only put the bangs on one side, and didn't make the back one yet. Also they're all just pinned. Faux fur is really expensive so it's important to save as much as we can.

But in conclusion, w're IN LOVE with the shapes we got with the fur ;___; The mane looks so fluffy, with fur going in different directions and with shapes that give it more life and personality. It was difficult to know how to make it because the customer wasn't very sure about how they wanted it, but they said they like how we made it a lot.

The first pics are the final mane prototype. We also made some comparative photos of the first test with the second one (the good one).

Our favourite part of the mane is where the fur starts going up wildly hahaha

There are also a couple pics to show the neck piece and the tail (which is not placed on the plush yet).Fun fact, the neck peice has the back made of minky instead of faux fur, so when we sew it to the body it doesn't stand out too much.

The most difficult part of working with faux fur is, without doubt, that everything grows A LOT. So when you make a pattern, sew and turn it inside out, it becomes much longer. We already made the first tests way smaller than we would've made them if they were made of minky, and they still turned out huge. There's an example pic hahaha

And now, with the mane patterns finished, we can make the final mane and start our challenge with the colour changes~
