My mind was brought to the full lives of Jean-Paul Sartre and  Simone de Beauvoir by Skye Clearly's interesting piece on their, shall we say, leisure activities. But I cannot think of those two, without thinking of their meeting with Che Guevara, whose spirit continues to inspire. And in a similar spirit I have to share my hero Paul Robeson singing the labor ballad Joe Hill, who much like Ché reminds us "it takes more than guns to kill a man."            -David Griscom

How To Party Like An Existentialist - Skye Clearly 2019

Illegalism And Ultra-Leftism - Interview with Sartre, 1972

And these words by the writer José Saramago on Che:

"Che Guevara, if it can be said, existed before he was born, Che Guevara, if it can be affirmed, continued to exist after his death. Because Che Guevara is just another name for what is most just and worthy in the human spirit. What so often lives dormant within us. What we should wake up to know and to know ourselves, to add the humble step of each to the path of all.”

What we are listening to:

Lol the song that autoplayed after Joe Hill was "Danny Boy" which is my namesake. Never heard a version of that song I liked, so thanks for that.

Also I met you guys at the live show in LA and that was awesome! It was probably so much fun (probably too much fun, not sure a crowd of drunk Angelenos should be allowed that much fun), you all need to come out again.

I just got back from the Occupied Palestinian Territories (west bank and gaza) and was stunned by how much people (including non socialist Palestinians) admire and respect Che. Through graffiti, bumper stickers, and support from many of the youth I met, it seems like he's got a lot of support. Especially in Gaza.

There needs to be a central depository of leftist books sorted by subject somewhere. You have a great reading list, as do alot of your sister podcasts and you all of course interview wonderful authors but I am always tracking down books on individual subjects and having to parse their political slant usually after purchasing them. I wish there was a site where I could type any historical event, war, occupation, country’s history etc and get a list of “People’s History of...” type books on that particular subject already grouped together with all the American Exceptionalist, Euro-Centric, Right-wing etc ones that come up in a plain google search filtered out.
